Yeah! I'm glad we have new members jumping in on the challenges.

I just finished my 2nd "just because" book, Rooftops of Tehran on my morning commute. I'm holding off on a review for now since I don't think I would recommend it, unless someone had an earnest interest in iranian culture/literature. I don't know what I would like to read for my last "just because" book but perhaps I will find something at the library tonight...

The reporting thread is http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...Sorry, Wendy. I should have put that in my first message.

Thank you! Still figuring all of this out...
For this challenge I've started reading The Beggar King
by Oliver Pötzsch. This is the 3rd book of his Hangman's Daughter series, and I've already read the first two. The author is doing a chat on Goodreads next Tuesday, and I'm hoping I'll be home in time to participate.
Can someone tell me what I must do to list myself for this challenge? I tried to enter that I was going to read 1 book on a Goodreads shelf I created called YLTO but it wouldn't accept that, nor would it accept 2013 YLTO. What must I do to enter the shelf?

You need to create a shelf called "just-because" and then add your book or books to this shelf when you sign up for this challenge. I just did it.
My Nook and I are having a Sherlock Holmes revival. I purchased the Barnes & Nobel Complete Volumes of Sherlock Holmes (1 and 2) and I am about half way through the first volume. I had forgotten how Dr. Watson met Sherlock Holmes, it had been so long since I read any of the original books. If you want to refresh your memory, then read A Study in Scarlet. This is the 1st book ACD wrote. Next is The Sign of Four. I am currently making my way through the short stories from The Adventures of Sherlock HolmesJanice - How do I report this? Do I count it as just one book after I am done with the 1st volume? (It actually contains 5 books plus all of the editorial information etc). I plan to read the 2nd, but may not get done before the end of the month.

GR doesn't allow spaces, so you have to use a hyphen (-) or underscore (_) between words.
Theresa, just to add my 2 cents to this discussion, the name of your shelf can be anything you want it to be, as long as you copy the name exactly as it shows on "My Books". For example, you may enter the shelf name as YLTO challenges, but goodreads will list it as ylto-challenges. So when you indicate your shelf on the challenges, you enter it the way goodreads shows it. I hope hat made sense. I use ylto-challenges myself and use it every month. At some point, I may want to know which books I've read for all the monthly challenges and thy are in one handly little place.
Hm, now I'm a bit confused. Are you obliged to use the shelf or is it also fine to just post here (and in the reporting thread) when you participate?
Peggy wrote: "Hm, now I'm a bit confused. Are you obliged to use the shelf or is it also fine to just post here (and in the reporting thread) when you participate?"Good point. I don't believe that you are required to use the challenge form.
As you say, it is also fine to just post here (and in the reporting thread) when you participate!☻
Not at all. Almeta is quite right. I don't use it personally for monthly challenges, but I find it useful for larger challenges. Some people enjoy having a counter on their home page, and/or like challenging themselves harder than Janice and I already do. So do as you will, but the most important thing is the Reporting threads so we can work out who gets badges!
I was thinking of those for the Toppler, Anna. But then found out I only have the Psmith books and the Blandings books. I really should read them now I know I have so many!
Peggy wrote: "Hm, now I'm a bit confused. Are you obliged to use the shelf or is it also fine to just post here (and in the reporting thread) when you participate?"The reporting thread is required. The challenge thingy is optional.

Peggy wrote: "I just finished The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, just because :)"Please put this in the reporting thread so that it doesn't get missed when I tally up the results.
