Almeta (menfrommarrs) | 11496 comments Somewhere In Time just because Richard Matheson died very recently. Romance is a departure for Matheson (and me!), but he has twice done it effectively. What Dreams May Come being the other entry, which I am starting now. Just because I want to!

Thank you Helen for getting our attention and interest, lol

Watch out, it is part of a trilogy. Are you willing to commit? (;D)

message 64: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 915 comments Yep, I definitely need to be committed, lol. Oops, yes I'll commit :-)

message 65: by Cathie (new)

message 66: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 915 comments Never mind, I see that she has written 2 other books about the old fools after this one :-)

message 67: by Helen (last edited Aug 05, 2013 01:44PM) (new)

Helen Southall (hsouthall) | 181 comments Since I started this I guess I have to commit!! Am about 20% through 1st book and it is a hoot. Murphy's Law is at work throughout the first part of the book. I'm retired so I can definitely relate to this one.

I just checked Amazon and you can get the Kindle version for $2.99 (US). The 2nd one is $2.99 and the third is $3.25.

Hmmm - does that mean the new price for the basic $2.99 books are going up to $3.25?

Book 1: Chickens, Mules And Two Old Fools: Tuck Into A Slice Of Andalucían Life
Book 2: Two Old Fools - Olé
Book 3: Two Old Fools on a Camel ~ From Spain to Bahrain and Back Again

Goodreads shows a fourth but it is not on Amazon.

Janice (jamasc) | 60254 comments So I was scrolling through Kindle's monthly deals for August and stumbled across Three to Get Lei'd, Three to Get Lei'd by Jill Marie Landis . I'm debating! It may be the perfect beach read for when I'm in Hawaii.

Lara | 1426 comments I recently read the first book, Mai Tai One On (Tiki Goddess, #1) by Jill Marie Landis . It was fun and I've picked up the next two. Some real characters!

Lara, do you think I need to read the first two first? One can never tell with these cosy mystery series.

message 75: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments Janice, I haven't started the second one yet, so I'm not sure how much the setup is required to appreciate the sequels. There are some real characters though. And I know the second book does build on some of those relationships. But, she may give enough background that you'll be fine.

Did you know that Somewhere in Time was actually the name of the movie based on Matheson's book. The title of the book is Bid Time Return. I loved this movie not the least because it starred Christopher Reeves and Jane Seymour. But the book was very, very dark.

message 79: by Nancy from NJ (last edited Aug 10, 2013 09:53PM) (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) I am going to read just because:

Fin & Lady: A Novel by Cathleen Schine

and

Leaving Everything Most Loved by Jacqueline Winspear which is the newest book in the Maisie Dobbs series.

I did know that. It was filmed right here in Michigan at Mackinaw Island. When asked about my favorite movie Romance, this is the one I name.

message 81: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) Finished Fin and Lady late last night which turned out to be disappointing.

Not sure if I will begin the just because two other titles I mentioned. I am if noting else a mood reader and it becomes difficult therefor for me to plan on what I will be reading in the future. I am also in 2 f2f book groups and do read the book for those so that means 2 books a month are spoken for usually. I wlll look through my kindle, shelved TBR's and library books to see what I will read next "just because".

I first read Madame Bovary when I was in high school and remember really loving it. Now with many years gone by and a whole lot of experiences from life, I wonder what I would think about it.

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I finished my first 'Just Because' book, The Book of Lost Things The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly and have put it in the reporting thread. It was a 3.5 star read for me, it was quite good and I enjoyed it but it is certainly not the best book I have read.

Now I am moving straight on to my second book Gone Girl Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn 'just because' it has been sitting on my TBR pile for months and I feel that now is the time to read it.

message 93: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4564 comments I'm going to read Mrs. Tuesday's Departure A Historical Novel of World War Two by Suzanne Elizabeth Anderson . I've had this one on my Kindle for ages but just never had an opportunity to read it. Other things (books) got in the way. Love the cover. The women remind me of pictures I've found in drawers and boxes of my mother and mother-in-law.

message 94: by [deleted user] (new)

I had real trouble with this one - I've got books to read for the alphabet, books for RL book club etc etc. but one just because I felt like it? I couldn't handle the pressure!

But I did pick up a title form the library just because it appealed: The Camel Bookmobile. And after a very long weekend hosting 8 in-laws (yes, I deserve a medal) I've flumped on the sofa and it's being a great antidote to all the stress of accommodating 8 visitors and feeding 10 people for 3 days. About half way through.

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments I'm in for this one! Not sure which book it will be, but I do have quite a few books for my Kindle or iPod to choose from. I guess it will depend on which one grabs me when I'm ready to start something new.
