ShoSho (shoshost) | 12263 comments Wickedest Witch by Eve Langlais by Eve Langlais

Rating:4 stars (a bit generous more like 3.75)

Review:

This was my 4th Eve Langlais book and like the others it's really entertaining, funny and hot.I loved the humor ,it had a lot of laugh out loud moments. I've been skimming the sex scenes in almost every book I'd read recently but I didn't in this one.
The story wasn't strong ,it had a few holes and mistakes but it was such a fun book to read and I easily got over those. Perfect for a Sunday afternoon.

P.s.I didn't read this one because of the cover , I read it for the double decker!

Verdict:Worth reading

Gisela (chicadorlando) | 4022 comments Father Found by Judith Arnold

I picked it up because it sounded cute and light. Parts of it were. Jamie McCoy just turned 30 and happy with his life, until the morning he finds a baby on his doorstep with a note saying the baby is his. In hi panic he calls the hospital asking for helpon how to care for the baby. He speaks with a nurse tgat tells him about a class for new dads. The nurse turns out is also the teacher of said class and our heroine.

Much of the story is from Jamie's pov, his struggle with instant parenthood is believable and realistic. His interactions with baby Samantha are cute. The problem I had with this book is the heroine Allison. She has this holier-than-thou vibe going on thst got on my nerves. She spends 80% of the story thinking Jamie is irresponsable because he has a "child out of wedlock", even after he tells her early on that he used protection. She goes on and on about his irresponsible and how he sees the baby as a burden. With her job she should be more sympathetic to his feelings. Most parents have had time to become emotionally prepared for a baby. He's dealing with his fears and learning to take care of a baby and instead of support she gives him a hard time. So she soured the book for me. If you don't mind a bitch for a heroine go ahead. Read at your own risk.

IMO not worth reading.

Gotcha! (Tall, Hot & Texan, #1) by Christie Craig by Christie Craig

Rating:4 stars

Review:
I think I first read this book in 2010 or possibly 2009. I'm not sure !
I found out there was sequel to it and bought The Cop Who Stole Christmas.
And because I couldn't remember anything from this book ,I started rereading this again. It was a great surprise ,it was much better than I expected it to be!

There are one main romance , 2 other secondary romances ,a few quirky characters and a very good suspense plot! and lets not forget the humor . It was funny and romantic and everything else it promised to be.
I had given it 3 stars but it had been before GR so I might have made mistake when adding and rating my books or that I was in a mood when I first read it. I gave it 4 stars this time.

Verdict: Worth reading

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Misplaced Princess (Foreign Affairs, #1) by Mari Carr Misplaced Princess, by Mari Carr and Lexxie Couper

Rating: ★★★★½

Review: Loved this book. LOL! While I did received the Kindle format as a “freebie,” I listened to the audio via Amazon’s Whipersync (at a reduced price). I loved India Plum’s narration, with her raspy Aussie accent.

This one is fun, fun, fun! Loved both main characters and the setting. I bought the set-up (I won’t tell you why) ...and felt my pulse pounding from that first kiss.

For some reason I had forgotten this was an erotic novel, so my eyebrows raised when I got to that part, but it comes towards the end. Who knew cute could do erotic? And so well?

Verdict: Definitely worth reading.

Verdict: According to Gisela's rating and review worth reading!

ShoSho (shoshost) | 12263 comments The Locker Room by Amy Lane

Rating: 2 stars

Review: God , this book was annoying! (at least to me)and it has so many raving 5-star reviews . It's m/m and about 2 high school friends who love basketball and grow to be NBA players. They start their relationship in high school and have been practically married for years! So lets get to the annoying part . Nobody other that their family knows they are gay and a couple so they have to keep up face and go out with women and not just go out with them , once a month ,they go out with their team ,at the end of the night they pick one woman from the bar and actually go home and HAVE SEX with her!!! WTF! Can't they just pretend ? Can't they just pay someone to be their live in "girlfriend" ? They have made all their staff sign a confidentiality agreement. Couldn't they have some woman to do that? At the end of the book they have 3 female friends living with them in the same house ,wasn't that easier than what they did?
The author had tried to make it dramatic but I thought it was the most ridiculous way to do it! and that's not the only thing ! what happened at the end was the worst and the reason for their coming out of closet was horrible and a cope out but I won't say anything more!!! GAH!

Verdict: IMO NOPE!

Rating: 4 stars

Review: This was a really good read, I really enjoyed it. I liked both H/H . The heroine has agoraphobia and she is shy .I really love the way their relationship was dealt with. The hero was so nice and understanding and not a jerk at all!

Rating: 3.5 stars

Review : This book was one of the first freebies I ever got and I can't even remember from where!!! I hadn't read the blurb so I was a bit confused about who was the heroine but I figured it out in chapter 2. This was a nice read ,I enjoyed reading it. This a case of mistaken identity , I'm not big fan of those and I was hoping it would be solved soon and it didn't ! But how and when it was solved it worked very well with the story.

Verdict: Worth reading

ShoSho (shoshost) | 12263 comments Honey (Hearts in Chicago, #1) by Kimberly Steele

Rating:1 stars

Review: The blurb was so promising but the story was so disappointing . Sam had broken up with his cheating boyfriend more than a year ago but was still hung on him ! He was still hung on him in last chapters and then he was over the ex and didn't even comfort him when his mother died!
The angel was like an idiot most of the time and a genius pain the rest of it. The conflict between them which caused them to live separately for months was so ridiculous and childish that I don't have words to describe it. It was inconsistent and a jumble of a story!

Verdict Not worth reading

Gisela (chicadorlando) | 4022 comments Loup Garou by Mandy M. Roth
Rating: 1 star

Review:

Blurb:Lindsay Willows craves a simple life. One where she can make a difference without drawing too much attention to herself. As the daughter of both a vampire and a fay, the cards were already stacked against her. Finding out she's the supposed mate of a dark fay prince doesn't help matters. Especially when there are those who will stop at nothing to prevent her from mating with a prince she's never even met. When Exavier Kedmen, the incredibly sexy front man for a world-famous band, shows up wanting her to go back to a field she left three years ago, she can't explain the strong feelings that surface for a man she barely knows. Lindsay finds herself confronting demons from her past, coming to terms with the ones in the present and finally looking forward to a future with the man she was created for. And she discovers evil doesn't care who it hurts to obtain its goals but even the evilest of things fear something, or in the case of Exavier, someone.

This is one of those books that could have been so much more! It had so much potential but ultimately falls flat.
My problems with this book:

a) The heroine:
-She's supposed to be loving and nurturing, but she's also described as a love 'em and leave 'em type. Her friends are worried because of her attitude and penchant for one night stands. You get the feeling she's always been this way but then learn she was in a steaddy 8 year realtionship. She also comes across as silly and shallow.
-She had a crush when she was small and the boy made such an impression that she still thinks of him constantly. When she meets him again as an adult she doesn't recognize him. Doesn't even wonder if he might be the same person.
-She doesn't know the name of her favorite band. She has all their CDs and even has multiple copies of some of them. Listens almost exclusively to their music but doesn't recognize the lead singer when she meets him. Who on earth doesn't know the name of their favorite band?! Considering she's a well known choreographer and having worked in the music industry she should have been aware at least of who's who.
-She's slow to recognize the hero for who he is and what he is. The reader figures it out immediately and has to wait ages for her to realize it.
-She has TSTL moments. She goes into a restaurant knowing vampire assassins are waiting outside, inside she gets mad with the hero(who's the only one who can protect her) and leaves on her own. *rolls eyes*

b) The hero- he's the prince of darkness but when demon's attack he can't sense them. Isn't he supposed to be the one with power over them?!

c) The friends-
-I don't like characters with verbal diarrhea. Her friends are supposed to be her bodyguards and keep her safe. So when they get mad they start venting and afterward realize Oh there's a six and a half foot unkown man behind LIndsay! If you're a bodyguard aren't you supposed to be aware of your surroundings at all times?!

d)Plot-
-The hero and heroine have been kept apart by the hero's mother's lies and they never confront her about it.

Verdict: Not worth reading, skip it!

Gisela (chicadorlando) | 4022 comments The Husband School by Kristine Rolofson

Rating: 4 stars

Blurb:Turning bachelors into Casanovas, one cowboy at a time

Meg Ripley may run the local diner, but she has never been one to get involved in the small-town craziness of Willing, Montana. Now suddenly she's entangled in it? In addition to harboring a pregnant runaway, she's been enlisted to transform scruffy bachelor cowboys into husband material for a reality dating show. Including her ex-boyfriend, and the only man she's ever allowed herself to love, Owen McGregor.

Owen is still devastatingly handsome, and the passion between them hasn't faded with time. Unfortunately, neither have the issues that drove them apart. But that doesn't mean Meg is ready to turn him into the perfect man for someone else! Because despite their past, Meg suspects that Owen is still the one.

Review: I really liked it. The relationship develops slowly and at a more realistic pace than most harlequins. The secondary storyline involving the heroine's mother and a runaway pregnant teenager is very sweet. No over the top characters with weird quirks, this book is full of characters that seem so real they could be your neighbors.

Verdict: Worth reading.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Tangled Extra Scenes (Tangled, #1.1) by Emma Chase (Tangled #1.1), by Emma Chase

Rating: 5 stars

Blurb: A few extra scenes of Drew's and Kate's life together as a couple. Taking place after or during Tangled. There are four extra scenes altogether:
The Bitch Strikes Back (told from Kate's POV) &
The Honeymoon's Over (Drew and Kate have their first fight). Both here.

What A Difference a Year Makes (Drew and Kate celebrate their 'Fuckiversary') here.

An Extra Drew Evans POV scene here.
Review: FOFLMBO! If you've read the first book and you really wanted an epilogue, check these four stories out.

Verdict: Definitely worth reading, especially if you couldn't get enough of Drew in Tangled (Tangled, #1) by Emma Chase (the audiobook is delish! Too bad these weren't narrated, too!), then check this one out.

Rating:2.5 stars
Review:
This was a clean romance and boring as anything !I don't expect all the books that I read to have x-rated stuff in them. But a little bit of spice would have made this book a bit more interesting. They hadn't even kissed until 95% !!!
Rosalinda is very successful career woman .She suddenly realizes all her old friends have married and she is the last single one. So she hires Xavier to find her a husband.
I read the blurb and I thought it sounded very interesting and I was expecting something funny with some nice plot twists. But there wasn't any !!
I didn't like the writing much .The timing would jump several days and it left me confused several times and I had to go back and read a few pages again to figure out it wasn't the same night but a few days later.
I didn't like the heroine at all. I liked the hero though and I couldn't figure out what he saw in Rosalinda to fall in love with her. And the characters weren't consistent .
It wasn't a horrible book ,it just didn't have anything interesting :(

Verdict:Not worth the time ,I could have read something much better! At least it was free

I initially got this as a freebie. I loved it. read it in one day, couldn't stop. Spider is a very interesting character. He's a vampire frozen at the age of 18, but he doesn't glitter and has no interest in girls. He's attending night school just to have something to do (but this is a thriller, not a ya). Spider also has a hero complex and when he's asked to stop a cult performing human sacrifice, he readily agrees. This is an action packed thriller and it has some cool plot twists. I thought it was a fun read. Sign me up for book 2 which is going to have zombies on a cruise ship.

ShoSho (shoshost) | 12263 comments Love in the Afternoon by Alison Packard by Alison Packard

Rating: 2 stars
Review:
This is the first and only audio freebie I've got. I didn't like the narrator very much ,specially her voice for the male characters. The story itself wasn't that good either. It was boring ,I would faze out for long minutes but I don't think I missed anything.
The book could have been half and still have the full story.I'll give you an example. The heroine was going to do something very simple like driving to hero's house .Instead of stating that she drove there ,there was a scene like this :
She put on close , grabbed her bag ,entered the security code , opened the door ,went out , closed the door and locked it and put the keys in her bag and took out the car keys .she went to the car opened the car door got in and started the car. She started driving and stopped at every red light.she beeped a couple of times. Finally she turned into his driveway , parked the car opened the car door and got out! and it would go on and on like that .
If I was reading it I would have skipped most of it.
The suspense part was so lame that I rolled my eyes at least 20 times.
Towards the end I just wanted it to be over!!!!!
Before I forget ,H/H were actors in a soap opera. There were short dialogues at the start of each chapter from their characters on the show and these dialogues were one of better things in the book.
Verdict :Meh not so much
