SOLVED. stephen king like horror, antagonist was trying to get closer to Satan, might have gone by name Lucifer [s]

I read this book five years ago perhaps, I don't remember the cover, publication date or much. The antagonist was trying to get closer to satan and might have went by the name lucifer. There was one part in particular that stuck out, the antagonist was talking about how when he was younger he went to a themepark and stood up in the dark spots of the ride with his friend and his friend end up being knocked off and ran over I believe.

Do you feel like the author was relatively well known, or very obscure? Did you get it from the library, buy it in a bookstore chain, or someplace like Costco?

I got from the public library when they were on the old system (and didn't have a record). I'd have to say the author isn't too well known.

It was probably a non series one or the first in the series.

Something by James Branch Cabell perhaps? He wrote an interesting variety of books, many of which were banned at the time.
