I still haven't read Shadows of Self but plan on reading and finishing it before Bands of Mourning comes out. So I'd like to read it with you with it comes out.

No. It's book 2. The Alloy of Law was a one-off. He originally didn't play to write a trilogy set in this timeframe. Maybe that's why I didn't like Shadows of Self as much.

Wait, really? I thought Bands was finishing this trilogy as well. Huh, weird. So there will be 4 total mistborn books set in this time period? He might be pushing that
Here are the books from Jan-March that are on my TBR/pre-order list:This Census-Taker by China Miéville
Truthwitch by Susan Dennard
City of Blades by Robert Jackson Bennett
All the Birds in the Sky by Charlie Jane Anders
A Criminal Magic by Lee Kelly
Morning Star by Pierce Brown
Calamity by Brandon Sanderson
A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab
The Winged Histories by Sofia Samatar
I'd love to do any of these as group/buddy reads!

Correct.

I'll probably be doing City of Blades and Calamity. I'm just not sure if I'll do them release day.

That is good to know. Thanks Rob.Christina, We did the earlier books for City of Blades and Calamity in this group so would guess we would do these. I hadn't planned on doing or haven't heard of the others. Will check through them.

It is also supposed to be out in October which would be awesome.

Yeah, ideally I'd like to read all of these on release dates, too! That's always my plan but it often doesn't work out that way. I'm usually in the middle of reading another book for another group read and then it gets pushed down in my reading tbr.
I guess the only books on that list that I'm going to try my best to read right away is City of Blades, Calamity and Morning Star.
Ashley *Hufflepuff Kitten* wrote: "@Christina I'm keeping an eye out for Truthwitch too!"I was able to pre-order this one at my library, so it's on my holds list now. I'm at the top of the list so I should get it in January as soon as it comes out.
About six months ago, I found out about holding books at the library that haven't even been released yet. It was like a whole new world opened up to me! I've always been a big library user but only for older books. Then I started searching for books released in the next few months and realized I could get on a hold list.
Before when I would look for a book at the library on the day it was released there would often be several hundred holds on the book by that point. Now I've learned how to get myself to the top of the list!

Not sure I buy that. He's still working on the first draft of Stormlight 3. Then again he churns out books pretty fast.
After his last few books though, I'm hoping he doesn't rush through it.

I'm skeptical too but he did just come out with book 5 in October so to be releasing 6 in January makes me think he can get it done.

Well. He actually wrote that book first. He was struggling with Shadows of Self, so he jumped into The Bands of Mourning and then backtracked to do Shadows of Self.
Personally I'd prefer he slow down some more put Stormlight 3 out next fall and Lost Metal out like Summer of 2017.

I want to read City of Blades too, and I'm sure I'll read Calamity. And Morning Star. Thanks for the tip about the library.
Anyone planning to read Fall of Light when it comes out in April? I should have finished BotF and Forge of Darkness by then.
I need to read FoD. Malazan Fallen did a group read last December, but I got busy with holidays and haven't been motivated to try to read it again.
Maybe we can do a group read here in Feb or March before Fall of Light comes out.

That would be awesome. Preferably March, since I have a few more books in BotF to catch up with before then :)
The Wheel of Osheim comes out June 7th. We did The Liar's Key as a group read - can we throw the final book on the calendar?
I'm definitely in for that one - I loved The Liar's Key - and it doesn't hurt that it is read by Tim Gerard Reynolds.
Looks like we have a pretty big gap until the end of the month. I'm reading the S&L pick right now, but would anyone be up for The Pale Horseman around the 12th?
It's hard to gauge exactly when I'll start it (not sure how long this book is going to take me), but I'll be flying to/from Vegas around then, so I'll have a bunch of reading time on the plane.

I'd be up for it - I certainly enjoyed the first of that series and it'd be good to continue before I forget names, etc.
Sky wrote: "The Wheel of Osheim comes out June 7th. We did The Liar's Key as a group read - can we throw the final book on the calendar?"Already marked that down as one of my scheduled reads for series completing this year. Count me in please!
I'm going to read The Pale Horseman with you, too. Just watched the TV series (and read the book last year) so it's high time to go on with the books series :).
Two new series I will definitely be reading. Anyone else interested?Dancer's Lament by Ian C. Esslemont - prequel about the founding of the Malazan Empire. Out April 21st.
The Waking Fire by Anthony Ryan - new series unrelated to Tower Lord. Out July 7th.
The Draconis Memoria is a remarkable new epic fantasy series with steampunk flavor, full of the phenomenal worldbuilding and non-stop action that have gained Anthony Ryan a global fan base
I haven't read any of the ICE books yet. That seems like it might be a good place to start; I've heard the first few are pretty weak but are getting better
Sounds good to me for both - I haven't read any ICE yet either but this seems standalone from other ICE?
I'm a maybe on both books. I'm still torn on the ICE Malazans books. And after Ryan's last book, I might wait a bit on his new one.
This is the start of a new trilogy for ICE. A lot of people who love MBOTF seem reluctant to try ICE but I really enjoyed his stuff. They definitely got better with each book. Blood and Bone was probably my favorite as it had one storyline that probably had the best humor out of any Malazan book.
Think starting with the new trilogy would be ok or should the Malazan Empire ones be read first? I have Night of Knives in the kindle but haven't given it a go yet. Still processing the end of the MBOTF
You can start with the new trilogy. It is a prequel so there won't be any spoilers for Malazan Empire.
Not sure if the July date is confirmed, but, if so, is anyone up for The Thorn of Emberlain - Scott Lynch? Eagerly awaiting this release; thinking I might need a reread of the series beforehand since it's baller
