Yes! That makes three of us! But you guys are in US servers. :(

I'm up for Perdido Street Station I've always wanted to read it.

EU Server for me.

Sky | 1291 comments Me three for Perdido Street Station

message 457: by Sky (new)

Sky | 1291 comments These are my Jan-June pre-orders:

Tuesday, January 6, 2015: Firefight (Reckoners Book 2) (I need to read Book 1)

Tuesday, January 13, 2015: The Providence of Fire (Chronicle of the Unhewn Throne Book 2) (I need to read book 1)

Tuesday, February 10, 2015: The Autumn Republic (The Powder Mage Trilogy) (already on calendar)

Tuesday, February 17, 2015: Half the World (Shattered Sea Book 2)

Tuesday, March 31, 2015: The Skull Throne (The Demon Cycle Series Book 4) (I need to read 1-3)

Tuesday, April 7, 2015: The Grace of Kings (The Dandelion Dynasty)

Tuesday, June 2, 2015: The Liar's Key (Red Queen's War)

Tuesday, June 2, 2015: Nemesis Games (The Expanse)

Anyone interested in group reads of any of these, and putting them on the calendar?

For items above where I haven't read previous books in the series I'd be interested in a group read of prior books leading up to the new release.

Any other interesting stuff coming out Jan-June I should look out for?

message 458: by Geoff (new)

Geoff (geoffgreer) Im in for Nemesis Games and Grace of Kings.

One series I love and another book Im very interested in

message 459: by Michael (new)

Michael (michaeljsullivan) | 157 comments Wow there are some nice titles coming out - a good list. I've not had the time to look at what is "coming up" but certainly the Abercrombie, Lawrence, McClellan, and Brett books all are highly anticipated. Also the next book in The Expanse.

message 460: by Mark (new)

Mark | 482 comments I can do the ones mentioned by Micheal.

message 461: by Richard (new)

Richard Eyres (richardeyres) I already have pre-ordered:

Firefight
The Providence of Fire
Autumn Republic

The following will be ordered a little nearer to the release
Half the World
Nemesis Games

I have not read the Red Queen's War first book yet, but chances are i would be happy to join in with this as well.

I also have a small TBR shelf. Including the Ryira books that i managed to pick up from Audible in the 2-1 deal this week.

message 462: by Sky (new)

Sky | 1291 comments Awesome everyone. Can someone with admin powers add them to the calendar at some point?

thanks!

I'll definitely be doing:

Firefight
The Providence of Fire
The Autumn Republic
Nemesis Games

I might read:

Half the World

I can add some stuff.

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
Anyone want to volunteer to lead: The Skull Throne?

So far I see Michael and Mark interested in that one, unless I missed a response.

message 465: by Sky (new)

Sky | 1291 comments i am interested too, obviously, but need to read 1-3 first. If Mark or Michael want to lead it, great, if not, it will give me incentive to hurry up and read 1-3 :)

message 466: by Rob, Mayor of Ghost Town (new)

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
Yeah. That's why I didn't include you...

message 467: by Linette (new)

Linette | 135 comments I'm in for Nemesis Games.

message 468: by Dara (new)

Dara (cmdrdara) I might be in for Abercombie. I'm trying not to commit to too many reads next year because i want to try to make a dent in my own TBR pile. I might possibly be in for Nemesis Games, depending on when I read Cibola Burn and if I like it.

message 469: by Mark (new)

Mark | 482 comments The Providence of Fire

Also this one.

I am in for demon cycle.

message 471: by Bill (new)

Bill | 1596 comments I will probably read all except Expanse.

I can take the lead on Skull Throne.

message 472: by Rob, Mayor of Ghost Town (new)

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
All EXCEPT Expanse? Something is wrong with you.. ^_^

message 473: by Bill (new)

Bill | 1596 comments Its on my tbr. I'm just not really all that into sci-fi.

message 474: by Rob, Mayor of Ghost Town (new)

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
In general? Or in book form? Because I'm not a big sci-fi book reader, but love Sci-Fi TV/Movies.

And I love the Expanse books.

But if you don't like it at all, then maybe it's not for you. But I think you're missing out. They are fun.

message 475: by Bill (new)

Bill | 1596 comments Books mostly i can do tv/movies.

I am trying to push myself to read the Expanse books so i can watch the show when it airs.

Its funny that i don't read sci-fi because the first series i every really fell in love with was Dune and I have read all 15+ Books that have come out.

message 476: by Rob, Mayor of Ghost Town (new)

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
Well Expanse is very different from Dune. This is very light space opera, more akin to say Firefly.

message 477: by Scott (new)

Scott (thekeeblertree) | 1049 comments Rob wrote: "Well Expanse is very different from Dune. This is very light space opera, more akin to say Firefly."

I've had a pretty similar take on it as well. I'm not a huge sci-fi guy but I loved BSG and Firefly and, so far, I've been loving Leviathan Wakes

message 478: by Bill (new)

Bill | 1596 comments Never saw BSG but liked Firefly. Will try to get to it in January. I think I got it free as part of the first dagger and coin ebook.

message 479: by Sky (new)

Sky | 1291 comments Two more for upcoming sequels for calendar if people are interested - Rob I think at least you would be:

Feb 10 - Scott Meyer, An Unwelcome Quest
April 7 - Wesley Chu, The Rebirths of Tao

message 480: by Rob, Mayor of Ghost Town (new)

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
Tao is pre-ordered. I'm happy to discuss that.

Unwelcome Quest will depend if/when I get a review copy. Most likely I'll start that late.

message 481: by Sky (new)

Sky | 1291 comments Sweet!

message 482: by Sky (new)

Sky | 1291 comments Maybe getting a little ahead of ourselves, but the posts in Blood Song reminded me to look up when Raven's Shadow #3 comes out:

July 7: Anthony Ryan, Queen of Fire

Score! Excited for this one, big time!

Have to apologize to the group on failing with Perdido Street Station. I tried a couple times to start it, but could never get into it.

Sky | 1291 comments Scott wrote: "Have to apologize to the group on failing with Perdido Street Station. I tried a couple times to start it, but could never get into it."

No apology necessary. Those of us who participated in the group read felt the same way, and probably only finished out of some deeply buried masochistic tendencies. Though I do feel bad for slamming the book so much. I think we mostly agree it would have been a good book if it was several hundred pages shorter.

message 485: by Dara (new)

Dara (cmdrdara) Yeahhh. PSS was a total bust, on par with the Mirror Empire debacle.

Geoff (geoffgreer) Alex didnt suggest it, did he?

"Masochistic reading" is a concept that makes me laugh and that I can relate to.

message 489: by Geoff (new)

Geoff (geoffgreer) I try to avoid subjecting myself to masochism in my reading. Although, I did enjoy Mirror Empire more than most in the group.

I liked Mirror Empire.

Kat | 1178 comments This is nothing new, but A Shadow on the Glass by Ian Irvine is the first book in an awesome series. Not sure if starting a series might be too long?

There's 11 books so far, and Ian said yesterday that he'll be writing more.

The world building is fantastic, and there's magic galore as well as some schi-fi elements later on (flying machines and stuff). Also, conflict arises because different people want different things, not because there's an evil witch who's just evil because that's what she does.

Anyone read any of them?

message 492: by Rob, Mayor of Ghost Town (new)

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
Wow 11 books. Right now I'm overwhelmed with the 4 books I'm supposed to be reading this month. Not to mention how many series I'm in the middle of. Maybe later in the year. I dunno.

The only thing I've read by Ian Irvine was Geomancer, and I didn't like it very much.

message 493: by Kat (last edited Jan 09, 2015 04:31AM) (new)

Kat | 1178 comments That's number 5 in the series, I think. The first quartet follows events on the same world, but earlier in the timeline.

Then there's a second set of 4 books, following Tiaan and the people she meets. It's 200 years after the first set, and the world is grim and there's a war on. I'm not sure I would have liked it as much if I hadn't already been sold on the world as a whole by the previous books.

Finally, there's a trilogy following those quartets, where everything changes yet again.

So it wouldn't be 11 books as one long haul, it would rather be 4 + 4 + 3.

I like that format, because at the end of a set you get a sort of ending rather than a cliffhanger. I hate having to wait years for the next instalment of something, I rather have 3 or 4 books published a year apart and then have a break.

message 494: by Richard (new)

Richard Eyres (richardeyres) I have the first two books of the quartet. Was recommended it by a friend - not started it yet. However, have a busy first half of the year with the current list i need to get through.

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
Ah. Sounds more like Robin Hobb's Elderling books. There were definitely parts of Geomancer I liked, but the parts I didn't overwhelmed them. It was a book where I wished I liked it better.

message 496: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) | 80 comments I want to nominate Elizabeth Bear's Eternal Sky Trilogy starting with Range of Ghosts since Alex, Me, Michael, and Rabindranauth all have it on our TBR list. You can thank Alex for giving me his extra copy.

I still want to try Elizabeth Bear at some point. Something of hers put her back on my radar again recently, but I cant remember what now, or where.

Depending on when, I might be interested, but I'm probabaly out of any new reads in the next 2-3 months unless I catch up on a few things.

No rush, just sometimes before the end of year.

FWIW, it looks like that's the book I was planning to read. And I moved it up my TBR list to try to remember to read it soon. I'm still not sure why though.

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
I don't want to think about committing to new books too hard right now. I'm still pretty overwhelmed from December/January and I'm not reading as much as I was last year right now.

It does look like March-May will be kind of open for me (at least based on the current NABCC schedule) so maybe I can work in one/month especially if I do them in audio or something.
