Catherine | 880 comments now...to find a book for this week :)

Camilla (cyqua) Here's my book for JAIL week:

Book: The Immortal Rules (Blood of Eden, #1) by Julie Kagawa by Julie Kagawa
My letter: I
Read between Aug 3rd and 9th

Review: I really liked this book and was pleasantly surprised by the story idea and the world-building. Allie was a very full-dimensional person and it was really interesting to follow her development - however, I did feel that the book could have been about 100 pages shorter. Especially in the middle where it seemed to draw out a bit with her issues about feeding.
But all in all a good book and I look forward to reading the next one in the series :)

WoW: "......I was able to avoid being sent to jail"
Kindle location 6773

Bonus: "Chickens milled about the yard, scattering before us..."
Kindle location 4023

Camilla (cyqua) Since Saturday and the weekend is a time when most people have time to read, it would be great if we could get the letters sorted as soon as possible :)

So, can we quickly once more say who would prefer what? Just the one letter that you would like to read and hopefully we can sort it out that way :)

message 155: by Brittany Lynn (new)

Brittany Lynn | 449 comments I'm good for J or A. My Book works for both of those letters. :)

OK, I think you should just start reading that then :)

Catherine | 880 comments I have M if that's ok with everyone

message 158: by Turtlecollector Dennis (last edited Aug 10, 2013 08:16AM) (new)

Turtlecollector Dennis I think Brittany meant C or A. I will be starting my A book today anyway but I am a fast reader and can easily switch to my M book if Catherine needs C or A. Since you said you have P, I didn't bother trying to find one for that letter. I can go back and find one if you really don't feel like P, Camilla.

Turtlecollector Dennis We were posting at the same time! I'll stick with A then.

message 160: by Brittany Lynn (new)

Brittany Lynn | 449 comments Haha. Yep i meant C or A lol.

message 161: by Camilla (last edited Aug 10, 2013 08:21AM) (new)

Camilla (cyqua) OK, I think we're set now - let me know if I misunderstood something:

C: Brittany
A: Turtlecollector
M: Catherine
P: Camilla

I'm perfectly fine with P, I have several books for that letter that I'd like to read :)

HAPPY READING!

Don't worry about it! It matched perfectly with everyone else's wishes too :)

Turtlecollector Dennis Week 4: Camp/Pancake

My letter is A
Speaking from Among the Bones (Flavia de Luce, #5 ) by Alan Bradley by Alan Bradley
read 8/14/13 - 4 stars

I love this series. It is such a light-hearted cozy mystery with a 12 yr old protagonist. It is an historical mystery set in a small village in England with a very smart, young lady who seems to always be in the midst of trouble. In this one, an old saint is being disinterred and the body of the church's organist is discovered. Of course, Flavia is the first one to see the body and no one can stop her investigation after that. She is a precursor to all the present day forensic specialists and CSI without all the technology. The end of this book had a twist to it I wasn't expecting and I hope to be able to read the next book soon.

WOW: camp
pg 69 - "...was a folding camp stool, and beside it..."

Bonus: pancake
pg 43 = '"Pancake Day," I said...'

message 165: by Camilla (new)

Camilla (cyqua) Way to go, Turtlecollector!

I've heard so much good about that series, I really want to get it started :)

Brittany Lynn | 449 comments Week 4: Camp/Pancake

My letter is C

The Unidentified Redhead by Alice Clayton by Alice Clayton
read 8/14/13 - 5 STARS

Word Of Week: CAMP
Location 2426 - "We sang songs as if we were at freaking camp."

Bonus: PANCAKE
Location 3482 - "We ate our pancakes and drank our juice and he buttered my toast for me."

REVIEW
This book was absolutely hilarious. I was continuously laughing out loud. This was just the book I needed to read to get me smiling and in a good mood. I would HIGHLY recommend it. I can't wait to get started on the second book in the series!

message 167: by Camilla (new)

Camilla (cyqua) Great job, Brittany! :-) Glad you liked your book so much!

message 168: by Camilla (new)

Camilla (cyqua) OK, ladies - new word is up:

Week 5:
Triple Word Week
Pork

Bonus:
Barn

P:
O:
R:
K:

message 169: by Camilla (new)

Camilla (cyqua) How is your book coming along, Catherine?

I am having a terribly busy day at work, so I won't finish mine until tonight, but I will finish in time.

:)

Turtlecollector Dennis So far, I have only found 1 book for R that has both bonuses. It has been really hard for me finding pork in the first place(I have only had three books so far with pork with R or K).

message 171: by Camilla (new)

Camilla (cyqua) Yeah, I can see from the other threads that lots of people are struggling with this combo...
I have several books for all the letters (maybe only 1 for O though) and am happy to help!

I'd prefer to do K, but will do whichever letter is left :-)

Turtlecollector Dennis I finally found one for O. I still prefer R since that is a book I need to read in the next week anyway.

R - Rabbit Run by John Updike
O - The Barn at the End of the World: The Apprenticeship of a Quaker, Buddhist Shepherd by Mary Rose O'Reilley

If you have some suggestions for P, maybe I can find one of those as well.

Catherine | 880 comments My book:

Lettre: M
Book: Red Sparrow..Jason Matthews

WoW: Camp: Yes..pg 44.."She was about fifteen years old, dark hair, almond eyes, her clothes worn dusty, the usual filthy camp followers."

Bonus WoW: Pancake: Yes..pg 244..".. shared her grandmother's recipe for fried cheese pancakes with the new bride..."

Review: well...I do love a good spy novel! This one really give you a glimpse of life as a spy...how one cultivates "friendships" and how you protect yourself and your informants at all costs! I was hard pressed to really get a handle on how the two main characters kept their wits...definitely hair-raising!

message 174: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 880 comments So far I have K. I can check for P or R

message 175: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 880 comments Found one for R also....but I can do K. Or I can look for a P or O :)

message 176: by Camilla (new)

Camilla (cyqua) Here's my book for CAMP week:

Book: The Prisoner of Heaven (The Cemetery of Forgotten Books, #3) by Carlos Ruiz Zafón by Carlos Ruiz Zafón
My letter: P
Read between Aug 12th and 16th

Review: One of my favourite authors of all time! And I love his series set here in Barcelona - This book was quite a bit shorter than the previous ones, but still had all the magic of Zafon's lyrical writing - I hope to someday read him in the original Spanish :)

WoW: "... and then being laid down on a camp bed near a fire."
Kindle location 1884

Bonus: "...his nuptials flashing sweat stains the size of pancakes under his armpits."
Kindle location 138

message 177: by Camilla (last edited Aug 16, 2013 05:41PM) (new)

Camilla (cyqua) Well, if we stick with the first come (as best we can), how about:

P: Brittany (Camilla)
O: Turtlecollector
R: Catherine
K: Camilla (Brittany)

Then hopefully Brittany can do either P or K...

Does that work for you all? Or would you rather have your other letters?

message 178: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 880 comments Camilla....I could do K if you want...:) I found one for K and one for R...so either is good for me

message 179: by Camilla (new)

Camilla (cyqua) Catherine wrote: "Camilla....I could do K if you want...:) I found one for K and one for R...so either is good for me"

Well, as I said, I can do all the letters, but I'd prefer K if that's ok with you :-)

message 180: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 880 comments Ok...no problem :)

Turtlecollector Dennis Camilla- Do you have suggestions for P? I am not having much luck with P books on my own(at least with ones that have both bonuses). I can see if I can get one of those if Brittany needs O. Otherwise, O is fine with me.

Camilla (cyqua) No problem Brittany! Must be wonderful to have your fiance back home :-)

Would any of you be able to swap so Brittany can have the O? I can swap to P easily :-) And as I mentioned, I can also send any of the mentioned books above to you if you have a Kindle :-)

Turtlecollector Dennis I can switch to P. I am getting your suggestion of Lullaby by Chuck Palahniuk from my library on Tuesday which is plenty of time for me to read it.

Catherine | 880 comments Lettre: R

Finished Chesapeake Blue..Nora Roberts this evening:)

WoW: Yes..pork..pg179

Bonus WoW: Yes..barn..pg 15.."Maybe there was room in the old barn of a boatyard..."

Review: well..I have to say I really do love how Nora Roberts weaves her stories. I only wish this story was not ending here...guess I'll have to live vicariously in my imagination:) the only thing I did not like was the fact that it picked up almost 20 years later than the 3rd book ended....I wish there had bee more continuity there...but overall....I loved it :)

message 193: by Camilla (new)

Camilla (cyqua) Wow, well done, Catherine! Glad you enjoyed it so much! :)

Turtlecollector Dennis I finished my book yesterday and will post my review later today.

Turtlecollector Dennis Week 5: Pork/Barn Triple Word Week

My letter is P

Lullaby by Chuck Palahniuk by Chuck Palahniuk
8/21/13 - 2 stars

This was a very odd book. I have not read anything else by him and probably won't after this one. I kept getting very confused as to what was happening. It was a quick read for me though. The main character believed he had the power to kill whoever he wanted as long as he recited a culling song. Apparently there were more people who could do this as well. There is a huge search for a book and an attempt to turn himself in by the main character. It is even hard to write a review about it, I feel so disjointed.

WOW: pork
pg 158 - "A pork chop means a pig...."

bonus: barn
pg 159 - "That Book Barn place was like a rat's warren..."

message 196: by Camilla (new)

Camilla (cyqua) Well done, TC! Sorry you didn't enjoy the book more - he's a very unusual writer for sure...

Brittany Lynn | 449 comments Week 5: Pork/Barn

My letter is O

How to Bake a Perfect Life by Barbara O'Neal
read 8/20/13 - 4 STARS

Word Of Week: PORK
Location 2438 - "I've just had some supper at the hospital cafeteria - a plate of roast pork and cabbage with a very nice rye bread I should remember to tell my mother about."

Bonus: BARN
Location 1243 - "An aloof husky sometimes graced us with her attention, and a handful of barn cats warily approached only if we had something particularly interesting, though they did like to leave dead rodents on the back porch."

REVIEW
This book was not what I expected it to be. It was a good read, and I'd recommend it. It's about a grandmother, her granddaughter, her granddaughters husband, his daughter. It's wasn't a hard read at all and it flowed nicely with as many characters.

Catherine | 880 comments So far I've found one that would work for G or L. Am checking for A and F:)
