Catherine | 880 comments ok...so finished :)

Lettre: S

Book: Sea Swept: Book One of the Chesapeake Bay Saga
Author: Nora Roberts
WoW: Nest: Yes..pg 149. "She stepped out, wearing a prim, boxy suit the colour of a bird's nest."

Bonus WoW: Newspaper: Yes.. pg 31. "But the refridgerator was covered with photos and newspaper....."

this is the 4th Nora Roberts book I have read, and she was brand new to me this year!!! I love her writing....she puts a lot of detail into the small things....and makes the characters stand on their own. this is the first in the second series by her that I am reading!

Camilla (cyqua) Great job, team! Full points for the first week! Let's keep up the good work - og I'm glad you all liked your books :-)

So, on to the next week:
Word of the week:
V:
I:
E:
W:

Bonus: Football

I have books for all the letters and again, I'm happy to help if anyone is having trouble :-)

I'll post for our points tomorrow :-)

Turtlecollector Dennis Any other suggestions for I or E? I could use books with those letters anyway for other challenges as well.

So far I have already in my possession:

V: The Mermaids Singing by Val McDermid (both)
I: Immortal Rider by Larissa Ione (lookup online says it has both, but would only show me football, anyone else know for sure?)
E: Sacrifices (only has one bonus)
Crocodile on the Sandbank (only has one bonus)
W: The Apple Orchard by Susan Wiggs (both and will be reading this by the end of July anyway)

Turtlecollector Dennis Will you read one of your I books, Catherine? Camilla says she has any letter, so she could maybe take E. Both Brittany and I have books for V and W. Since I am planning to read both of my books in the next week anyway, I will use the book that fits whichever one Brittany doesn't want.

Sorry, if you feel I am taking over this week Camilla, but I have unexpected company coming soon and I kind of really needed to know if I should keep looking for one of the other letters. I think this would work out:

V TC or Brittany
I Catherine
E Camilla
W TC or Brittany

message 107: by Brittany Lynn (new)

Brittany Lynn | 449 comments TC,

Either or both is fine with me as well since I will be reading both either way also.

message 108: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 880 comments I can do I, E, or W...so if either you or Brittany can't find a book...let me know :)

message 109: by Turtlecollector Dennis (last edited Jul 27, 2013 08:18PM) (new)

Turtlecollector Dennis Catherine, I already have V and W which will definitely be read in the next week anyway, and probably I, but thanks. Since you have I or E, I won't bother trying to find one of those letters(that definitely has both bonuses) this week.

You and Camilla could switch around with I and E to find one you would rather read. Be sure you post which letter you are reading soon, though, so Camilla can see which one she needs to start. She said she is on vacation and will take whichever letter is left.

message 110: by Camilla (new)

Camilla (cyqua) Hi guys, so sorry for being absent! TC, I'm really grateful that you're "taking over" a bit this week, as I only have Internet access in the morning and evening, so it's great if you guys can just work out however you want it :-)

Catherine, would you prefer the E or the I? I'm really fine with either :-)

Thanks again for being such a great team already :-)

message 111: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 880 comments It doesn't matter to me...you pick..since you let me pick last week:)

message 112: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 880 comments Ok...I'll do I then....I can start my book.

message 113: by Camilla (new)

Camilla (cyqua) Sorry, just got home from sightseeing all day :-) I'll take E then.

message 114: by Brittany Lynn (new)

Brittany Lynn | 449 comments And ill take W!

message 115: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 880 comments Oooh! Where are you, Camilla?

message 116: by Camilla (new)

Camilla (cyqua) We're in London! It's really lovely and with so much to see :-) My poor, poor feet :-)

To sum up:
V: Turtlecollector
I: Catherine
E: Camilla
W: Brittany

message 117: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 880 comments I am soooo jealous! I am trying to get back to UK!

message 118: by Camilla (new)

Camilla (cyqua) Hi ladies, how are you all doing with your books?
I just finished mine and loved it! I promise I will be more available now that we're home from London :-)

Turtlecollector Dennis I've finished mine just haven't had a chance to post it yet. It was a pretty creepy book.

message 120: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 880 comments should be finished tomorrow :) I hope:)

Turtlecollector Dennis Week 2: View/Football

My letter is V

The Mermaids Singing (Tony Hill & Carol Jordan, #1) by Val McDermid by Val McDermid
read 7/30/13 - 4 stars

This was a pretty creepy book. As the police are working on solving the murders, the story is intermingled with diary entries from the killer. Getting this insight on the motives and methods of the killer can be pretty gruesome at times. These diary entries are not found by the police until they are trying to apprehend the suspect so the reader gets some information first and can see where the police get things right and where they are way off base.

WOW: View
pg 14 - "...the gate of the pub in constant view."

Bonus: football
pg 255 - "...assaulting a football referee..."

message 122: by Brittany Lynn (new)

Brittany Lynn | 449 comments Week 2: View/Football

My letter is W

Damaged (Damaged, #1) by H.M. Ward by H.M. Ward
read 7/29/13 - 4 STARS

Word Of Week: VIEW
Location 774 (page 80) - "The school sunk a buttload of money into the view."

Bonus: FOOTBALL
Location 2907 (page 287) - "Some are in the field next to the building, playing football."

REVIEW
I loved this book. I love how it was written. The relationship wasn't rushed. Peter was wow just WOW. I was drooling after the author's descriptions. His personality was adorable, the swing dancing stuff was really cute. Sidney and Peter had their share of baggage and I really felt for them. Since the book is told from Sidney's POV, it was easy to relate to her inner turmoil and try to move on from the horrific things that happened in her past. I could feel her frustration that the one man she's finally able to feel something for was off-limits. I can't wait for the next book!

message 123: by Camilla (last edited Aug 02, 2013 06:45AM) (new)

Camilla (cyqua) Here's my book for VIEW week:

Book: Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, #1) by Susan Ee by Susan Ee
My letter: E
Read on July 30th

Review: I realise I'm late to this book as everyone else has already been praising it for years! I will join the choir and say that I really loved this book, the premise, the storytelling and the main characters! And that I was VERY disappointed to realise that the sequel won't come out until November! :(

WoW: "...and his naked back came into full view."
Kindle location 830

Bonus: "...shows a sports field with the older boy in a football uniform doing a high-five with the dad."
Kindle location 1869

If you take that one for "A" I'll do "J"!

message 131: by Camilla (new)

Camilla (cyqua) Turtlecollector wrote: "Only 13 points that week Camilla."

Sorry! That's what you get for copy-pasting too quickly :)

Catherine | 880 comments sorry guys...I was at work :)

Lettre: I

Book: Inner Harbor: Book Three of the Chesapeake Bay Saga

Finished: 2 Aug

WOW: View..Yes..pg 25.."He had a slick career, a well-appointed condo with a killer view of the Inner Harbour..."

Bonus WOW: Football..Yes..pg 48.." The pattern would remain fairly constant whether the vehicle was football or basketball."

So this is book 3 in a series(I naturally have tons of series on my list! Nora Roberts is a new author to me this year, and I am loving her stories....they are all romance, but these ones..instead of having a female heart-sick character...have a male character..in search of that something more. I love how she weaves together all the details.

message 133: by Camilla (last edited Aug 02, 2013 03:22PM) (new)

Camilla (cyqua) Great ladies - so, is it ok with you both if TC takes the A and Brittany will take the J?
I'll wait and see how Catherine feels about either I or L then :)

J: Brittany
A: Turtlecollector

Catherine | 880 comments I found a book for A..I will have to search to see if I have one for I or L

message 137: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 880 comments ok..I found one for L :)

Great - would you like to read that? Then I can do I :)

message 139: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 880 comments actually found 2 for L now!:)

Turtlecollector Dennis Week 3 Jail/Chicken

My letter is A
Accused (Pacific Coast Justice, #1) by Janice Cantore by Janice Cantore
read 8/3 - 3 stars

This was an OK book. I figured out the conspiracy right away even if I did not have all the major players. It did seem to skip over parts and fast forward through the investigation. I don't think parts of it were very realistic.

WOW: jail
pg 36 - "...locked in cells in the Las Playas City Jail."

bonus: chicken
pg 3 - "No chicken here."

message 141: by Camilla (new)

Camilla (cyqua) Way to go, TC! :)

How are you getting along with your books, Catherine and Brittany?
I'm about 65% done and hopefully will finish at the latest tomorrow, but coming back from holiday always means the first few days at work are crazy busy :(

message 142: by Brittany Lynn (new)

Brittany Lynn | 449 comments Week 2: Jail/Chicken

My letter is J

Sempre (Forever, #1) by J.M. Darhower by J.M. Darhower
read 8/7/13 - 5 STARS

Word Of Week: JAIL
Location 470 - "There are only going to be so many get-out-of-jail-free cards, Carmine."

Bonus: CHICKEN
Location 737 - "A little while later, as she defrosted chicken for dinner, she spotted Dominic lugging his hamper downstairs."

REVIEW
This is one of my favorite books so far this year, yes that list is growing more and more. Sempre is a dark book. Going beyond the world of human-trafficking and the mafia. It was a story about acceptance, choices, sacrifices and love. This book, although dark and deep, is a must read!

message 143: by Brittany Lynn (new)

Brittany Lynn | 449 comments Ladies, not wanting to step on toes, but I'm wide awake. LOL

Speaking from Among the Bones by Alan Bradley
The Teacher's Billionaire by Christina Tetreault

message 146: by Brittany Lynn (new)

Brittany Lynn | 449 comments TC, if you want A, I will take C. ;)

message 147: by Turtlecollector Dennis (last edited Aug 09, 2013 08:28AM) (new)

Turtlecollector Dennis I am leaning towards A since that is a book I have already planned to read this week. I will still look for other letters in case Camilla or Catherine need it. I just found one for C and edited my post. Still looking for M or P

message 148: by Camilla (new)

Camilla (cyqua) Hi ladies,

Sorry for the late check-in, work has been crazy busy today and I just finished :(

Brittany, thanks for posting the words! :)

I can do any letter and would also be happy to help if anyone's struggling - so if you guys take the A and C, I will wait for Catherine to decide whether she wants M or P, ok?

Turtlecollector Dennis I have now found a book for M that has both bonuses. So I have options for 3 of the letters, just post which one I will be reading after Catherine has figured out which letters she has.

A- Speaking from Among the Bones by Alan Bradley
C- The Teacher's Billionaire by Christina Tetreault
M- The Hunger Angel by Herta Muller

message 150: by Catherine (last edited Aug 11, 2013 06:54PM) (new)

Catherine | 880 comments hey guys...not trying to be late!!! just got home from work :)

My Lettre: L
Book:Lady of Hay
Author:Barbara Erskine
WoW: Jail: Yes.. pg 414.." Sam spent the rest of the night he had been arrested in jail."

Bonus Wow: Chicken: Yes.. pg 338.."Chicken in a basket we can do you, or a nice scampi."

Review: well...this is an intoxicating story...I loved the way past and present were blended together...to make one feel as if they were not even separate times..
it is very strange how the brain works, in and of itself, but to find that you could bee alive centuries ago, and return there, if only in your mind, I find that so amazing...
