Ashley | 127 comments Hello!

Hey Ladies! I'm looking forward to playing this round with you all, I've been on the hunt for books that will work for this challenge and I've amassed quite a few :)

I should probably state right off that I don't want to be Captian, work can be a little crazy for me during the summer and any spare time I get is usually used to get some reading done, so whoever else wants the job gets my vote :D

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) | 355 comments Hello all!

I'm excited that I've played with you all before, in some form of a challenge or group activity. No surprise since I am addicted to challenges.

I'd rather not be captain, but I could be if no one else really wants it. Life is a little hectic for the next month and I've not had as much time online as normal and it makes me sad.

I love this challenge but I hate that it has this super secret "don't talk about fight club" mentality. I've been through most of the books I have on hand. I'm working through my kindle to see if I can find a book for every letter and bonus item.

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) | 355 comments I am usually pretty good with names but nothing is coming up to go with San Diego.

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

Your right Dawn that is the only thing I don't like about this challenge. I'm just in it to have fun and I don't mind sharing books that work for the challenge with anyone :)

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

LOL... finding something that fits San Diego into a team name is going to be hard. All I keep thinking about is the San Diego Zoo :D

message 11: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments Lol seeing your name makes me think of the chargers. Y'all don't have to be secret if you don't want to. I don't think many teams really stalk the others anyways. It's rare to see many people actually read the same book in a given week.

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

Lol... I thought of that too Jenne. I'm not very good at coming up with names but how about this for a team name: San Diego Letter Chargers.

message 13: by Ashley (new)

Ashley | 127 comments Alright so I ironically live in San Diego and the best thing about it is the Wild Animal Park. So maybe a name related to that or maybe instead of SeaWorld it can be SeaBooks... Some sort of play on words like that?

message 14: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments That's too funny that your team is where you live!

message 15: by Ashley (new)

Ashley | 127 comments I know right. I thought it was a funny coincidence.

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) | 355 comments All I could think of was the bridge and came up with Golden Gate Books or Golden Gate Readers.

message 18: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) | 355 comments Ok, so I know the point is to have fun with the challenge, but I am also super competitive. I'd really like to try to win this. To do that we have to make sure we get a perfect score each week. How do we want to assign letters?

The teams I've done in the past we just played it by ear, first come first serve. You could call a letter from the word at the start of the game or each week as it was called the first to claim it got it. The last to check in took whatever was left. Unless the couldn't find the words then we were flexible and changed. I know some teams planned it out though.

How do you all want to do it?

And does anyone else want to play captain?

message 19: by Ashley (new)

Ashley | 127 comments I am really competitive too. We can create a order that we follow every week if everyone agrees. I read tons of books so I can always read a book for someone else if need be. I would volunteer for captain except this is only my second time ever playing...

What do you mean by an order? Like Ashley always gets the first letter, I always get the second, Amy always gets third and Kat always gets fourth?

I'm working out a list of all the words and the books I have on hand. I've got most of them but pancake seems really hard. I have it for 6 of the words or only 1 letter each. Going to keep looking for more though.

message 21: by Ashley (new)

Ashley | 127 comments Yes like that. Or how my last team did it was we moved down each week for example.

B- Ashley
a- Dawn
b- Amy
y- Kat

C- Kat
a- Ashley
m- Dawn
p- Amy

P- Amy
o- Kat
R- Ashley
K- Dawn

It seemed to work out well for us. What do you guys think?

Amy ~Lover of Books~ | 143 comments Ashley wrote: "I am really competitive too. We can create a order that we follow every week if everyone agrees. I read tons of books so I can always read a book for someone else if need be. I would volunteer for ..."

This is my second time playing as well, but I guess I can try to be captain although I don't have enough confidence in being a good captain.

Sorry, I don't like that idea because what happens if someone has trouble finding a book with that letter for that week?

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm good with whatever you guys want to do with the letters, all the times I've played it's been first come first choice, but I happy to do it whatever way is easiest :)

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

I've found books for every letter for all the Words of the week but not all the books have all the bonus words so depending on the word combos that's how I would be choosing my books

message 26: by Ashley (new)

Ashley | 127 comments Whenever we had problems we would just trade letters. Which way do you think?

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

I also have have tons of ebooks to choose from so I know I won't have any trouble finding something to read

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm down for either assigning letters for each word or we can do the rotation that you talked about Ashley, and if something happens that someone can find that letter and word combos we can always switch if needed

message 29: by Ashley (last edited Jul 16, 2013 12:28PM) (new)

Ashley | 127 comments I have tons of books to choose from too. So I am fine with any letter. Or method. I would just prefer something consistent.

message 30: by [deleted user] (new)

We'll see what Amy and Dawn want to do and then go from there, I'm right in the middle of making lists and notes of what books work for what letters and bonus words... it's my OCD coming out in me ...lol :D

message 31: by Ashley (new)

Ashley | 127 comments Lol I am doing the same so far I have every single bonus word covered except for barn for the letter W.

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

of all the words I've had the hardest time finding pork, flag and nest and for some reason pie and barn have also been harder to find as well

message 33: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) | 355 comments I've never done it that way but it might be nice to only have to worry about having books for 10 letters instead of the 40.

They only draw back I see is that if I decide on week 8 that I really want to read a new book I just got from the library that fits a letter that is not mine I'd have to get someone to switch. But it sounds like most of us have plenty of options as a back up so it wouldn't be a big deal.

And if we all pick/get assigned letters now we have time to figure out if we don't have something for our letter and could switch if someone else does.

If Amy is up for it, I say we try that way. Then next round I'll know which I like better. Something new and different!

As long as you can tally the points and post for us on time in the point thread you'll do great! I'll be your cheerleader. I can back you up if needed, I just don't want it full time. Maybe we could co-captain if your really not sure?

message 35: by [deleted user] (new)

I do kinda like only having to worry about 10 books then trying to find 40 that fit everything, it would certainly make hunting for books easier :0)

I think assigning letters ahead of time is a grand idea. I like being prepared.

The only thing I'm not sure is how to know how many points we get each week. I was kinda confused on how it was added last round.

I guess we can try it although I'm a little worried in one case of not being able to find a book with the assigned letter Q for example. I only know one book at the top of my head, but it doesn't use quit at all in the entire book.

Maybe instead of a random we could voice our opinions ones we are not so good with. Like FLAG I have books for all the letters with flag in them. But I have all the bonus words for G but not to many for L. And for others I may want to read specific books instead of others. So maybe if we didn't do it randomly but by everyone saying which they'd like or which they can get all the words for and then finagle it to have a plan in place.

I could set up a list if we want to do it that way instead of random.

message 40: by Ashley (last edited Jul 16, 2013 11:44PM) (new)

Ashley | 127 comments I forget we can use author last/first names to represent the letter right?

message 41: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes Ashley that's right, also we can use the series name as well if I remember right

message 42: by Ashley (new)

Ashley | 127 comments Thank you :) That make it way easier.

message 43: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) | 355 comments Ok, Amy and I chatted by PM and I think we are going to co-captain.

I've got time today & tomorrow to make up a list to assign letters to everyone. If you all want to post or PM me with letters you do or don't want to get I'll put in preferences then I'll randomize the rest. And if anyone doesn't like what they get assigned I'll reorganize it.

message 44: by Ashley (new)

Ashley | 127 comments I am good with any letter. Especially if I have a ton of time to search I am pretty sure I can find almost anything.

I don't want the letter Q.

message 46: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

I think I've got Q covered so it'll work out.

message 47: by [deleted user] (last edited Jul 17, 2013 09:29PM) (new)

I can handle Q as well, I have 1 book that will work and it has all the bonus words accept Pie

message 48: by [deleted user] (new)

I should be OK with just about any letter, so I'll just wait and see that letters I get assigned before I can see if I'll need to change anything :)

message 49: by [deleted user] (new)

So Amy and Dawn are going to be Captains now all we need is a name and I can't think of one thing! Darn it :D

Amy ~Lover of Books~ | 143 comments When I type in San Diego, there is San Diego Chargers or San Diego Padres. Unless, you want a name completely different and not related to San Diego?
