Kate Can't remember the name or author, I can only remember two characters but not names. They should be the main characters but I could be wrong. One is a teenage blind boy, he wasn't born blind, and he is talking with a girl, I believe in a park or just outside. I get the feeling she is red haired. He tells her he forgets what colours look like and asks her to describe them to him, ie, the sun and trees, maybe the sky. I know it's not Things Not Seen, so if anyone has any ideas.. Thanks!

bookel | 4030 comments What year did you read it?
What age are the characters approximately?
Do you recall anything else that happens in the story?

Was it a YA, children's picture, children's chapter or adult?

I would have read it around 2004-2006, but it might not have been a newer novel. I can't say for sure, but they're 15 or older teens. And unfortunately no that is the only scene I clearly remember...

I am certain it was YA and not a childrens/picture book. It may have been pre-teen but no, not childrens.

bookel | 4030 comments I see from your subject line it's a young adult novel. Thanks for the approximate ages and year range. It wouldn't be Granny Torrelli Makes Soup by Sharon Creech as the boy is not completely blind. It is not Things Not Seen, Things Hoped For, or, Things That Are by Andrew Clements because it's the girl who's blind, not the boy. It wouldn't be Blind Sunday by Jessica Evans, as it's the girl who's blind. Suggesting this one, The World Of Ben Lighthart by Jaap ter Haar, though don't recall if there was a girl main character. The Watcher In The Garden by Joan Phipson is YA but has an elderly man who's blind. The Seeing Heart by Janet Randall (college aged girl, don't know if there's a boy who's blind as I haven't read it). Run With The Ring by Kathryn Vinson (don't know if there's a girl main character).

I haven't read all of the below, therefore cause of blindness may vary. Suggestions of books -- boy (blind) and girl main characters (note, some like the first may be children's fiction rather than YA, but mentioning just in case):

- One Of Us by Nikki Amdur
- The Cliff House Mystery by Betty Antoncich
- Making Out series (Originally Boyfriends/Girlfriends series) by Katherine Applegate
- The Dark (Phantom Valley #2) by Lynn Beach
- Coming To Terms by Rose Bevins
- Hal by Mary Blakeslee
- Sarang : The Story Of A Bengal Tiger And Of Two Children In Search Of A Miracle by Roger A. Caras

- Summer Dreams (Sweet Dreams #36) by Barbara Conklin
- Winter Dreams (Sweet Dreams #141) by Barbara Conklin and Stefanie Curtis
- Water At The Blue Earth by Ann Howard Creel
- The Missing Boy by Joan Dell
- A Wind Is Blowing by Monica Edwards
- The Million Dollar Putt by Dan Gutman
- Mary Lou And Johnny : An Adventure In Seeing by Mildred Hark and Noel McQueen
- Long Night Dance (The Seeker Chronicles #1) by Betsy James
- Dark Heart (The Seeker Chronicles #2) by Betsy James
- Listening At The Gate (The Seeker Chronicles #3) by Betsy James
- Heartwaves (Caprice Romance #36) by Deborah Kent
- Is There Life After Boys? by Linda Lewis
- I'll Be Seeing You by Lurlene McDaniel
- A Different Kind Of Beauty by Sylvia McNicoll
- Beauty Returns by Sylvia McNicoll
- The Sleeping Sword by Michael Morpurgo
