Brenda Seaberg (cricketseaberg) | 241 comments I haven't seen it. I just finally watched the first season of American Horror Story on Netflix - loved it! Grandma's situation is keeping me very busy. I'm so behind on stuff!!!

message 202: by Malina (new)

Malina I love AHS! The second season is much creepier IMO,also great

message 203: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Seaberg (cricketseaberg) | 241 comments You are one of the few I've heard say that. Most seemed enthralled with season 1. I have to say my freakiest part of 1 was rubber man. I guess I just hate not knowing who's in the suit!!! Freaks me out!

message 204: by [deleted user] (new)

Anybody remember the "Monster Mash" song? I have it stuck in my head today for some strange reason. I hate when songs get in my head and stay there for days.

message 205: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Seaberg (cricketseaberg) | 241 comments Thanks a lot, Cindy! Now it's stuck in MY head, too!!! Argh! LOL!

message 206: by [deleted user] (new)

Angie | 623 comments I've not heard of that show Holly, and is game of thrones starting on season four already? Me I've been sat outside today. Its been so sunny here this afternoon, so after what feels like a very long winter was enjoying soaking up some rays:-)

message 209: by Holly (new)

Holly | 140 comments It's on HBO as well.

I'm not sure, I'm only going to be beginning season one!

message 210: by Daniel (new)

Daniel (diaze) My back is kinda hurting. What the hell?

message 211: by Angie (new)

Angie | 623 comments How do you think you've hurt your self Daniel? Bad backs are so painful:( its 3.30 here and that's because our clocks have just gone forward an hour, so I should be asleep!! How many people have insomnia? I have it quite badly. I'll be up for about 4 nights then just crash for about 24 hours.

message 212: by Daniel (new)

Daniel (diaze) It is an old nagging injury that flairs up on the most random of times when I am doing very routing things.

Sorry about your insomnia. I have nights like that.

message 213: by Angie (new)

Angie | 623 comments I'm used to it, like you get used to most things . its easier now I can chat to everyone on here:) the only trouble is I start making terrible typos and not making sense. I look at what I've said and even I don't know what I've been talking about!lol. I need to pick something to but on the TV, but as usual don't know what to choose:O

message 218: by Daniel (new)

Daniel (diaze) Mine are 15 and 13. I've log way to go!

message 219: by Julia (new)

Julia (juliace) Mothers Day in the US is in May. I saw a FB post this morning that said Happy Mothers Day, and after my initial bout of panic, I wrote back and said that MD is in May and I received the response back that in the UK it's today.

I hope you all have a GREAT day!

When is Fathers Day in the UK? It's in June for us Yanks.

message 220: by Angie (new)

Angie | 623 comments Its the second weekend in June over here as well. I had a good time yesterday afternoon and it was still warm enough to sit outside. Its less than 2 months till my son and daughter in law go on holiday, and jayne s all excited as she's never been abroad before.

message 221: by Julia (new)

Julia (juliace) Where are they vacationing Angie?
My BF & I have been talking about taking a couple of weeks this summer and going out west, possibly to the Grand Canyon.... still throwing it up in the air though.

message 222: by Angie (new)

Angie | 623 comments They're going to the Canary islands and so looking forward to it. They've rented a villa with a pool and because its low season its not very expensive. It would be amazing to see the Grand Canyon Julia:) is it far from where you live?

message 223: by Julia (new)

Julia (juliace) Angie - yes it is quite the hike. I'm in Florida and the Grand Canyon is in Arizona, so it's about a 4-6 hour flight. We would LOVE to do a road trip and drive, but we don't have the time. That would take at least 3 weeks to a month if we drove out.

message 224: by Angie (new)

Angie | 623 comments It would be good though by the sound of it:) I've drove through Europe as far as Berlin anyway and loved it. Seeing lots of different places on the way:o I'd love to do that in the USA but I don't think I'll get the chance to, I would be very expensive.

I see haven't seen the first one lol

message 229: by Angie (new)

Angie | 623 comments I wasn't sure about the first captain America film, it was my least favourite of the new marvel films but this new one was very, very good. And apparently there's going to be some roll over from it to the final six episodes of the shield TV show:o I've only seen the first episode of that so far but Nick is going to download it and come watch it with me!! I hope it lives up to the hype.

message 230: by [deleted user] (new)

Random? OK. I'm taking the dog for a walk and then pampering the hell out of myself the rest of the day. Been a very busy week and I'm tired.

Cindy I hope that plan worked out for you:-) I think you are due a bit of pampering! I loved House Holly but I've not seen the last season of it, apparently its meant to be really good.

message 235: by [deleted user] (new)

It worked out wonderfully. Thanks guys! We went to our old neighborhood because there are actually sidewalks for the dog and then I visited some friends I hadn't seen in over a year. It was really nice to visit the old neighborhood.

message 236: by Angie (new)

Angie | 623 comments Sounds like you had a good time then, that's good to hear:)

message 237: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Seaberg (cricketseaberg) | 241 comments Okay, the last several months have been very different for me. I am now the POA for my grandmother, who's now in a nursing home, because my dad didn't want to do it. I never thought I'd be the primary to help her, but we do what we must for those we love, right? Anyway, I have gotten some of the most bizarre stories ever from her.

First off, I need to explain that she cannot see well. She has glaucoma, so she has no peripheral vision, and she has macular degeneration, so she has no center site. She kind of sees out of rings similar to donuts, so she has to really focus on things for them to come in. This is leading to some really crazy stories! And I'm going to throw them on here, one or two at a time, just to get them off my chest!

The first room she was in was a rehab room. It was split with the 'door' bed and the 'window' bed. Unfortunately she had the door bed, so she didn't get any help from the light coming in the window since her roommate kept the curtain closed between their halves of the room. Now realize that each resident gets a twin bed and a bedside table.

I called Grandma's niece one day so Grandma could talk to her. I heard Grandma tell Sarah about how she's in an okay room, that her roommate has the nice double bed while they throw a makeshift bed with pillows in the corner for her, but she wasn't going to stress about it since she really didn't need much. Sigh.

She told me she's getting irritated because the home is too kind. She said they bring in the homeless people at night and let them sleep wherever they want. Her irritation lies in that they give Grandma's bed to them, so Grandma has to sleep on a mattress laid across 2 chairs, and they let those homeless people just take over. She said while it's nice that the home wants to help, it is really confusing to have up to 15 bodies or so lying in each room. And sometimes they make her lay right next to someone in bed, so Grandma can't move for fear of waking up that person. (Note - although there are sometimes some pretty bizarre stories out of these homes, I have visited at all hours and have never found this to be even remotely true.)

More later!

message 239: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Seaberg (cricketseaberg) | 241 comments Well, sit tight, cause you're gonna get a bunch of them now! *grin*

message 240: by Angie (new)

Angie | 623 comments It always makes us feel better by sharing, I know that works for me anyway and your grandmas stories are great. It made me smile:) But her poor eyes sound really bad:( can anything be done for them or is it just corrective lenses that sort of help? You'll have to tell us more of her stories though:-)

message 241: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Seaberg (cricketseaberg) | 241 comments Okay, a couple more stories before I head out to the home to be with Grandma for Easter.

I received a call one evening about 10pm from the home. That's scary to see on the caller ID! They'd apparently had a tough time with grandma that evening. She was mad as hell at one of the CNAs because she thought this girl had released a bunch of birds in her room, and there was no way she was going to be able to sleep with those birds flying around.

I drove out there and found her sound asleep, but with her arms in a defensive position in front of her. Man, I wish her eyes weren't so bad, and she wasn't seeing this stuff!

The next day I was out there, sitting in front of her (she was in the wheelchair, I was on her bed), and she told me about the CNA letting those birds fly around her room. I mentioned that I had stopped in and she was sleeping quite peacefully in her very quiet room. She said there was no way that happened, because she couldn't go to sleep. Sigh. Then she looked past me and said, "See, there are 2 of those birds now!" I looked back and said, "Grandma, there are no birds. There is just paneling on the wall." She said, "Oh, come on now! I can see their white faces, and one of them has white down on the chest." I again looked and again assured her there was absolutely nothing there.

That's what she's having the hardest time with - that we don't see this stuff. She says it's awful that her family doesn't believe her. But it sure does make for some interesting tales!

message 242: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Seaberg (cricketseaberg) | 241 comments Grandma told us that she fears for her life out there. She said that if something happens to her, we're to look for needle marks, and have her blood checked for drugs. I think I may have shown her too many Alfred Hitchcock movies!

message 243: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Seaberg (cricketseaberg) | 241 comments She said they took her roommate away. Her roommate was an advanced Alzheimer's patient, in there more than 8 years, unable to talk or move by herself. She said she didn't know exactly what happened to Ginny, but she feared the worst. When Dad mentioned that he was looking at Ginny, sleeping across the room in her bed, Grandma said, "No, you don't understand. You see what they want you to see. They're very good at deceiving people here." So I guess this home really has something over Criss Angel!!! LOL!

message 244: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Seaberg (cricketseaberg) | 241 comments A couple of weeks ago, Grandma told us that they'd had a wedding the previous weekend. She said it was a young couple, in their late teens - relatives of some of the patients. She didn't understand why she had to attend, but they always include her in their rituals, which usually only occur on weekends. And they make her stand the whole time in the doorway, which is hard on her.

Anyway, she said, "For some reason, these people felt compelled to tell them how to have sex. I always thought you just figured it out on your own, but apparently these kids needed help. Anyway, they then let them have the room next to mine, and they had sex all night long. I had to lay here and listen to this. The woman kept moaning and saying it was the best feeling she'd ever had. And they even said something about blood, so apparently she was a virgin. I don't think that happens much anymore."

YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!!!!!

message 245: by [deleted user] (new)

OMG Brenda! I wonder if they can put her on any kind of psch meds to make this better or if they are just pretty much helpless because of the alzheimers? I went through this with my mother and eventually she got really mean although I knew it wasn't her. She would tell me to go away and that I'd never done anything for her anyway. It really hurt, but after I talked to the doctor and social worker I felt a little better. They said she didn't have a clue of what she was saying and didn't mean any of it. Still :(

message 246: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Seaberg (cricketseaberg) | 241 comments Unfortunately she doesn't have alzheimer's at all. It all stems around the eyes. Because she can't see well, she glances at something then looks back quickly because "it's not polite to stare". Then in her mind, she apparently works to come up with a logical explanation for what she sees. Unfortunately her logic isn't the same as ours.

message 247: by [deleted user] (new)

That's sad. :(

message 248: by Angie (new)

Angie | 623 comments I can't imagine my eyes being that bad:( and all these problems are caused because of her bad eyesight, that's quite scary. Poor grandma, it must be hard to cope with Brenda, but the youngsters sex story is fun. Embarrassing but fun:)

message 249: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Seaberg (cricketseaberg) | 241 comments That's one thing my sister talks about. She's 17 months younger, but you'd think she was 10 years older. She asked me recently, "You remember all that sex stuff Grandma and Grandpa always had at their house? Like the hula dolls for the car. And the pens that you turned upside down and the people's clothes were removed. And the turtles, where one had boobs and the other had, um, his parts." LOL! And SHE'S the one with kids!

message 250: by Angie (new)

Angie | 623 comments It sounds like they had a great sense of humour:-) My ex's mum and dad had crazy stuff like that at their house and my kids found it really funny. They were in high school so it wasn't so bad,lol
