I love George. Got to see him perform right before he passed on, and although it wasn't his most inspires performance I was truly overjoyed to see him in concert.

I used to really enjoy King, then he seemed to change his writing. I'm hoping this one goes back to his roots. I'm not going to be reading it right away, but I do look forward to everyone's thoughts after they read it.
Believe it or not, I never read The Shining, I love the movie, but never read the book. Good reason to read The Shining and then Doctor Sleep!
England's Queen Victoria loved Lewis Carroll's book Alice in Wonderland so much that she requested a copy of his next book. Carroll, a math professor at Oxford, was happy to oblige, so he sent the queen his next book: Syllabus of Plane, Algebraical Geometry-SystematicallyArranged with Formal Definitions, Postulates, and Axioms.

Which version of the shining, Kubrick s or kings? I've got them both. But Jack Nicholson , how could anyone else play Jack Torrance. The book so scared me when I was young.
Had another interesting visit with Grandma this evening. Seems 'sundowners' hits her sometimes - it's something that seems to happen regularly to those in the nursing homes, where in the evenings they get kind of weird. I won't go into a lot of the stuff she was telling me, but I did find it amusing that with the homemade cookies a friend sent to her through me, she said she couldn't possibly eat a whole one, so she ate two halves instead. LOL! I just have to laugh - otherwise I'd probably cry! (Not because of that, but because of the other stuff. Sigh.)
Just realized I better stop browsing Goodreads. I currently have 9 books checked out of the library and just put holds on 6 more on top of the 5 I'm already waiting for lol.
Yeah, on Amazon, I now show I own 2,693 books for Kindle, and have 616 on my wish list. And most are because of Goodreads - all the freebies shown, and all the fantastic authors we have in our group. And I have like 38 in my 'currently reading' folder because otherwise they'll just get caught up in my huge to-read list and I'll forget about them.Oh, there's something else, Joycedale. Keep adding books to your wish list on Amazon, then go in daily to view them and put them in price order, lowest to highest. Many times 1 or more of mine will have a 'free' day and I'll be able to catch it for free. Just a suggestion that seems to work well for me.
And there are certainly worse addictions to have! LOL!

Very disturbing, and you have to love Jack Nicholson and Scatman Crothers!

So, I don't know if anyone else is a huge fan of Halloween like I am, I know I'm probably a little over the top. For years, I've taken the week off from work,(plus my birthday is the day after Halloween), and celebrate with a week of nothing but horror movies and horror novels. Not really what you'd expect from someone over 50 right? This year is no different. I was able to pick up three movies that Amazon had great sales on. The 'Afterdark Horrorfest 4' box set, 'One Missed Call' Trilogy, and 'Shock Labyrinth 3D', to add to my current collection of movies. I also have 5 titles set aside, in addition to Nos4a2, that I plan on trying to hit that week. Hell House and Duel by Richard Matheson, The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon by Stephen King (I'm the last person to read this I think), and Toes Up and Screamscapes, but I can't seem to remember the authors names:) I am totally psyched for the holiday. Tell me there's someone else out there who is as sad as I am.
I wish I could do that it sounds like fun. I don't think The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon is supposed to be scary, at least it wasn't for me. It's my least favorite King book.
Rick...I would love to do that...and just might since i have plenty o vacation time to use up... I would start a tradition of watching Happy Birthday To Me each year too..lol.

Rick I'm 46 and just as big of geek. The horror films you've set aside sound good, I'll probably look them upon Amazon myself.Screamscapes and toes up are both brilliant short story collections. If you like your horror with a side of dark humour running through it you will love both of them. I got Dark Harvest from Amazon a week or two ago and you could probably add that to your Halloween collection.
And for your birthday, happy birthday in advance to you:) you should definitely try The Hand That Feeds, it's so good, I was rooting for the zombies to eat John and Angela :)

Thank you Angie, and I'll have to check out The Hand That Feeds, I'm always looking for good recommendations. Actually, I did know Evans and Adam wrote those books! It was an attempt at humor since they're both in this group too:) Sometimes you just have to make yourself laugh! I'm glad to hear there's other people out there as geeky as I am!!

Someone had given me the Pop-up book as well, which I was waiting on until I read the novel!

I'm in the same boat, half my comments are made at unreasonable hours:) Both the books look awesome, I'm trying very hard to hold off on them until my vacation, but I'm not sure that's going to happen!
Adam it seems I'm always making you laugh with my spelling and stuff :) I make my family do the same. When I try to play the easiest of Xbox games they just about die watching me :). Oh well , it makes me laugh as well.It's nearly 2am here, but it's at this time most people are chatting so when I can't sleep I'd rather be on line than try to pick something to watch.

Same here Adam :) I'm such a klutz at so much, you have to have a sense of humour. I love that in Evans and your stories that they have a dark streak of humour running through them.

You sound like me Joycedale. Do it all the time and always end up renewing the books or taking some of them back unread.

I'm actually such a fast reader I never have to renew.
Right now my 5 yr old is watching ask this old house and saying he really likes watching them fix the toilet lol.
I'm not that slow of a reader when I stay focused, but that is quite rare. In any given hour I probably put a book down at least 5 times to get coffee, use the restroom, make a phone call, check on dinner, etc.
That's actually what I'm doin now. Reading, making dinner, and playing on my phone.

I'm so glad I could help, Joycedale! I get pretty excited when I find one of the books on my wish list for free. The problem is for every one I find free, I've added about 15 to the list LOL! That's okay, though. Someday I'm going to win the lottery, then I'll be able to buy every book on there! I think sw missouri skipped early fall. It went from warm to cold lol.
As did a lot of the midwest. We're heading to St. Charles, MO - the history district - for the Christmas walk on Saturday. It's gonna be cooold!!!!
