Tiffany (tiffanyyy_wang) | 12 comments This book I read in 2006-2008. I really don't remember much, but it was like the Nazis just took over. A girl kept trying to escape, but she was taken to a concentration camp many times. I don't remember what happened in the end, but either the girl died, or she got free. It's like a YA or teen book. I don't really know the age group. I only remember reading this very faintly. Sorry that I don't have much info....

April Ann (bloomer) | 515 comments Well the first thing that comes to mind is The Diary of Anne Frank but is that too obvious?

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 1396 comments No, There are many, many, many holocaust era books. The entire The Diary of Anne Frank takes places before she was in any concentration camps. There are books about Anne Frank in the months after her last diary entry but she never tried to escape from either of the concentration camps she was in, and she died while a prisoner in the second one she was in. Well, she was actually in 3 camps because she was in a transit camp with her family first, but they did not try to escape from there either.

Edit: Sorry Tiffany. I've read many non-fiction and fiction holocaust books but this one does not ring a bell for me. Hopefully, someone will recognize it.

April Ann (bloomer) | 515 comments The Beautiful Days of My Youth My Six Months In Auschwitz and Plaszow by Ana Novac The Beautiful Days of My Youth My Six Months In Auschwitz and Plaszow by Ann Novak. pub. 1997.

The journal of a fourteen-year-old offers testimony to the nightmare conditions at Auschwitz and the ways its victims survived

Erica | 47 comments I Have Lived A Thousand Years by Livia Bitton-Jackson is also a very fine memoir (I think this protagonist is also about 14 yrs old) which reads like fiction. It's realistic but not too gruesome.

However, I don't remember much escaping. Did your protagonist really escpae MORE THAN ONCE?

Tiffany (tiffanyyy_wang) | 12 comments I'm not sure if it's any of those. Thanks. Sorry I had to be so vague....

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 1396 comments Tiffany, Well, if you think of any other details, please post, and please keep checking back because someone new might have read this book and might be able to help you. Sometimes it takes months or even longer for someone to recognize a book, so never give up.

Thuy-Van The Devil's Arithmetic?

message 16: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 1396 comments Nope, it doesn't sound at all like The Devil's Arithmetic. That's a great book though. There are probably thousands of holocaust era books and I've read hundreds. Unfortunately, I can't help because this description doesn't sound familiar to me. I hope it's found, mostly for Tiffany's sake, but also it's one I might put on my to-read shelf.

Tiffany (tiffanyyy_wang) | 12 comments I'm not really sure, but it kind of looks like Greater than Angels, but I'm not sure. Where exactly do I put this folder now? Or should I just wait for some more suggestions?

message 18: by Lisa (last edited May 09, 2009 09:14AM) (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 1396 comments Tiffany,

It's up to you. If you think you've found the book - by the way is it ya and is it fiction or non-, do you know? Anyway, If this is the book it should go in one of the solved folders. If you click the little edit link to the right of the topic (a girl trying to hide from the Nazis) you'll see a drop down menu with the various solved folders. It's also nice to put SOLVED!: in front of the current topic name to lengthen the topic name. There's also a possibly solved folder but you'd have to remember this thread was there and come back and eventually change to to unsolved or solved.

If you would like me to change the folder for this thread, please post here again telling me the type of book it is and I'll move it or, as the creator of this thread, you can make the change.

Thanks for letting us know about Greater than Angels. I'll have to look it up!

Edit: If it is Greater than Angels I see that it's ya and historical fiction.

message 19: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany (tiffanyyy_wang) | 12 comments It is something like ya and defintely historical fiction. Thank you so much for helping me out. I think I'll just change it now, by myself. Thanks again!
