I am new to the Narnia series and I keep hearing ASLAN, ASLAN, AND ASLAN. The heck is this? Is this like some type of bird? what is an Aslan?

Aslan is a wonderful Lion (Narnia is populated by talking animals and other mythological creatures - it's a parallel world where years go by but upon the return to earth, only seconds have passed!)Although Aslan says he's dangerous, it's danger in the sense of power - like God. In Narnia he is the personification of Christ who is called the Lion of Judah in the Bible. The Narnia Chronicles are an awesome allegory. I've read then to my children and grandchildren and I still love them:)

Oh, man...where did you start reading this series??? You should start with either the magicians nephew or the lion, witch, wardrobe, because I have no idea how you can not know who Aslan is, no matter how new you are to the series...O.o

I was also under the impression that the word Aslan itself means lion in Turkish. Of course it can be read as original character and in parallel with Christ, depending on the reader's cultural background.

All of you who say that Aslan is Jesus (and I'm not questioning that statement), did you just read the books and thought "Oh, that's Jesus in the shape of a lion"? I mean, I grew up with the BBC version of Narnia and the books, but not even once did it occur to me that it was supposed to be Jesus until I read it somewhere on the internet. So, was it obvious to you or am I not the only one who didn't get the connection? And if it was obvious, are you all believing christians?

"Aslan" is Turkish for "lion". And the others have answered the question quite well :)

Aslan is Turkish for Lion. He is a Tiger probably because the Lion is known as King of the Beasts=God reigns over humans. This is really apparent when Aslan tells the Pevensies that he is in their world, but known by another name.

have you read the books?

Aslan is a lion. He represents both God and Jesus Christ. In The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe he represents Jesus at the crucifixion.

you aren't supposed to know who he is in the beginning

Aslan is the lion, the king. I believe he represents God... He was the best character in the story, noble and truthful... Just how I like em

Aslan is a wicked awesome lion, he created Narnia and is basically a god.

WHAT TYPE OF QUESTION IS THAT?!?!

Totally and utterly shocked.

As a child, both being read to and watching the BBC movie, I did not see the Christianity aspect. But the first time I reread the L,W&W as an adult in college, it was glaringly obvious (too me, raised a catholic). I didn't love it as much, but at that age I was questioning religion and my beliefs. If you read about CS Lewis and his life, it is not surprising that many see a correlation to Jesus and his crucifixion. I still buy these books when friends and family have children and think if I would read again, now that I am older I would view them differently yet again, but it is a beautiful story.

Aslan beez da lion

Aslan is representation of Jesus in the form of a lion, in reference to the Lion of Judah. It's clear as day and obvious as crystal.

Fun Fact Aslan is the exact translation of Lion in Turkish :D

Aslan is a Lion. Which book did u start from?

Aslan is the most important character of the novel "The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe" by C.S. Lewis. Aslan, is the Lion.

You mustn't have read "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe" or you`d know. Aslan is a lion that is Jesus because, he comes back to life in one of the chapters.

Jesus in lion form :)

Aslan is God in the shape of a huge lion

CS Lewis wasn't LDS was he?

Well, the fact that a lot of us didn't get it the first time and later came to understand it just shows how much growth can be achieved in Christianity. The Bible itself is the ultimate puzzle and so full of riddles. It's just like how some of us couldn't understand Jesus' parables when we were younger and when we grew older we were like, so how dumb were the pharisees and the disciples, this is so obvious. Well wisdom is a supernatural gift, not a natural one so that's just how it goes, it's not that they didn't understand but they couldn't.

The author wrote it so his daughter could understand the LDS religion better so Aslan represents Jesus Christ.

Jennifer Rengger Lewis was not LDS, he was Church of England.
