When you say 'You can't use any of the book genres/types more than once.' does that mean you can only read a maximum of four books - one of each type, or that we can't read more than one book with a rose on the cover etc?

It's probably the second one . . . I hope it's the second one.

There are 20 different book genres/types in this challenge and if you like, you can read all 20.

What I mean by 'You can't use any of the book genres/types more than once' is that you can't add more than one "book with a girl with long hair on the cover" but that doesn't actually mean that you can't read more than one "book with a girl with long hair on the cover", you would just have to add one in a different way. For example:

Let's say that you read Where She Went (If I Stay, #2) by Gayle Forman and added it to this thread as a "book with a girl with long hair on the cover"

then let's say that you read Fragile Eternity (Wicked Lovely, #3) by Melissa Marr . You can't add that book as a "book witha girl with long hair on the cover" because you have already add that, but you CAN add it as "a fantasy book"

Hope that helps :)

Sorry about your break up. Is there anything you were planning on reading soon? Sometimes it's easier to see if the books you want to read will fit a challenge than it is to look for new books that will fit the criteria.

for 'Read a book about a main character who is raised by someone other than his/her parents.'
would the main character being adopted count as not being raised by her parents?

Sure.

message 29: by Jess (new)

Jess | 324 comments Just want to clear something up for myself...
Each book we read only counts for one of the 20 traits listed? So to complete all 20, we have to read 20 different books?

message 30: by Jalyn (new)

Jalyn (jalynnie) | 3827 comments Yes, but you don't have to read all 20 :) That's a lot of books to read in 2 weeks!

You can use a book for this challenge that you are using for other parts of the MMC, but you can't use the same book twice in this challenge.

message 31: by Jalyn (new)

Jalyn (jalynnie) | 3827 comments I edited the rules so hopefully it's a little more understandable :)

message 32: by Leigh (new)

Leigh (leighsalv) ohhh I see, I'll edit mine cause I used 1 book twice.

message 33: by Kate (new)

Kate (kaitlins16) That reminds me of a question I had. Are we submitting the books on this thread, or will there be a separate one for that? (Sorry if it's already been stated somewhere already.)

Jalyn (jalynnie) | 3827 comments Here's the easiest way to figure out what genre your book fits in: Go to the book's page here on goodreads. On the right side, under the advertisement is a list of genres. If the genre is on that page then I will count it

For anyone who does the Group Stats Challenge every month (which ends today, btw), this is how I check genres too...and all of them count for the GSC!)

I think I'll wait to make a list if that's okay. I've no idea how many I'm actually gonna get read for this challenge. Is it easiest for you if we update a single message, or just add books as we read them?

Let's do a list this time instead of single messages. It'll be easier for me to see what you guys are reading the most (like Beauty and the Beast, etc) if it's all in one message and it shouldn't be too hard for me to keep up with since there are only 16 of you. But you don't have to make your list now. You can edit as you go :)
