Thanks for the offer, Juliana. I've got a ton of library books to get through, so I'm going to set this one aside since I own it and can read it anytime. I also have to confess that I'm still trying to get the taste of Slow Regard for Silent Things out of my mouth. I'm afraid Rothfuss's attitude has put me off a bit.

I will read it though. I can't resist his storytelling even if I am peeved. I don't want to hurry through it. I may even re-read NotW first.

Book Synopsis:

All the while, Kvothe searches for answers, attempting to uncover the truth about the mysterious Amyr, the Chandrian, and the death of his parents. Along the way, Kvothe is put on trial by the legendary Adem mercenaries, is forced to reclaim the honor of the Edema Ruh, and travels into the FAe realm. There he meets Felurian, the faerie woman no man can resist, and who no man has ever survived...until Kvothe.

In THE WISE MAN'SFEAR, Kvothe takes his first steps on the path of the hero and learns how difficult life can be when a man becomes a legend in his own time.

Through chapter 23. I'm enjoying this for the exact reasons that I loved the first. I feel like I'm reading the exact same book. The negative to that is that I'm kind of hoping the story moves on soon, as while I love the university I'm not sure another whole book based there would manage to stay fresh.

I wonder if Kvothe will eventually be expelled for granting Devi access to the archives. 40 talents eeeeep! But at the same time he couldn't do that to Auri :-(

Loving Sim and Will, frustrated by Denna and Ambrose. Same as the last book then! This malfeasance stuff seems dark though. I wonder who's behind it. (hide spoiler)]

I just started, just up to chapter 4, and I agree with Zee -- I am enjoying being back in this world, back at the University, but I do hope that the story moves on to another setting eventually.

I'm through chapter 79 now, a little over half way.

(view spoiler)[I ended up really loving the story about working out how to tackle the malfeasance against Kvothe. Obviously it was Ambrose! Mainly I enjoyed the new side that we saw to Devi. I love her!

I know that I wanted the storyline to leave the university but now I'm really missing it. There's so many threads still to wrap up there that I don't see how Kvothe can't go back.

Having said that, it's so interesting to see a different part of this world. The rings as calling cards were especially interesting. I can't work out if I like the Maer or not. At the moment I'm thinking not.

Not sure what I think about this storyline of wandering off to attack highwaymen. I don't really see where it might go. If they are Edema Ruh (which is what was implied) it could be interesting I suppose.

This is all getting a little bit schoolboy fantasy - a legendary beautiful fairy lady teaches our young hero to be an excellent lover... ok it's an interesting idea but there's already been too many chapters devoted to this Felurian chick. This teamed with the insanely long quest to find the bandits is why this book is so long!

Having now moaned a little bit, I feel the need to clarify that I'm loving this book. It's just going in an unexpected direction. (hide spoiler)]

I thought the same thing about the chapters with Felurian. It didn't seem to add anything to the story except an excuse for sex.

      ~ Buddy Style Reads ~
    Three Ways to Enjoy a Book!

At NRBC we use three styles of buddy reads. These will be indicated in the thread title as “Buddy Read”, “Relaxed Buddy Read” or “Informal Buddy Read”.

A “Buddy Read” has a discussion leader and a reading date is set to start the book. A reading schedule is posted prior to the start date and discussion questions are posted each day regarding that section of the book. More information about these types of reads is below. An example is here, showing a reading schedule here.

A “Relaxed Buddy Read” is similar to our usual “buddy reads” except there are less questions and break points. For example, a book may be split into three sections and those reading the book should pause at the end of the section to answer some discussion questions, make comments, or ask their own questions to other readers. An example is here.

An “Informal Buddy Read” doesn’t have a discussion leader and participants are asked to consider some generic questions when making comments about the book. An example is here.

A “Read and Watch Buddy Read” may be set up as any of the above, but we will also watch the movie or T.V. series - or even go to a play! - and make comparisons, discussing what has been left out or changed as well as the actors and actresses. There is a long debate of what one should do first: read the books or watch the movie? We usually read first, but it isn’t essential. Also, if you would like to join in, but don’t want to watch the movie, show, or play, but only read the books, that is fine, too. An example is here.

“Buddy Reads” (“BRs”) include:

• A reading schedule which can range from 50, 75, to 100 or so pages a day.

• Discussion questions posted daily by moderators and occasionally group members

Okay, I have started, finally. I read the first one like four years ago, amazed right now at having just read the first chapter how much has come back to me. This has a very melancholy feel

I hate Denna, is it just me? I don't like her at all.

(view spoiler)[ I hate Denna, I don't know. I never liked her. I think I wanted her for Kvothe because he wanted her but no, I hate her and he is twisting himself up over her and she isn't worth it. I'm worried about this heat/cold reaction he is having. I don't know if there was something in the wards of Ambrose's room or if this is more serious, but I'm worried. I think some of my favorite moments are definitely with Auri. and Elodin. But honesty, I like the present day stuff, when he is Kote and Bast is there... (hide spoiler)]
