Finished up The Mysterious Benedict Society (485 pages) for task 10.2. The original plan was to read Dealing With Dragons, which Alexis recommended, but my library couldn't get it to me in time. Instead, I slogged through everyone's shelves to find something I have easy access to rated 5 stars, and found MBS on many of them (Kristen, C, etc), which I own and had yet to read. Don't think you'll find it on my 5-star shelves...Anyway, one more book to complete my last task! Woo hoo!

20.2I read The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster for this task. The reason why I would like my son to read it (or any young person for that matter) is because of the very entertaining way that it encourages you to not waste time on unimportant things, to not take anything for granted, and to not lose sight of your goals. I enjoyed this book as a kid and loved it all the more this time around. I think as a child you don't necessarily notice the lessons, the adventure just takes you away.

For task 10.4, I reread Watership Down by Richard Adams (496 p.), which won the Carnegie Medal in 1972. I definitely feel that it deserved to win the award! It was a pleasure to reread such a well-written, engaging fantasy story with wonderful characters.I have half of one task and one book to go!

20.1I read Matilda by Roald Dahl. I thought the book, as the general rule goes, was better than the book. I love the backdrop with her love of books. A 4 year old reading Charles Dickens!? I thought the book was totally charming

I think this is it for me. I don't think I can squeeze another book in before midnight, as much as I would like to. Congrats to everyone who participated, and especially those who completed this!
Here's my last book for this challenge:Task 20.2 Girl Meets God A Memoir by Lauren Winner. An enjoyable read about one girl's spiritual journey. I recommend it to any young person who is dealing with or considering a religious conversion. Neither of the author's parents were very religious, so through much discussion with others, reading and soul-searching, this girl sort of had to come to her own conclusions about what she believed. She converts first to Orthodox Judaism, then to Christianity, but she maintains a respect for both faiths and provides an insightful comparison of the two without putting down other beliefs.
I am going to have my daughter read it, because it tells a lot about Jewish practices and explains Jewish holidays, which she doesn't know much about.
That brings my final totals to:
Points: 245
Pages: 4648

Linda wrote: "Kathy - Regarding Matilda, you said the book was better than the book. Care to clarify??"Well, I happened to love Matilda's back and forth to the library reading for hours in the chair, and her reading throught the children's section. That I don't remember from the movie. The movie focused more on her special powers. I liked that the books emphasis was on how smart she was, the number of books she's read through, the math she could do in her head.
Kathy, I think Linda meant to clarify that you liked the Book better than the Movie- your post says Book better than the Book...
