Jason, the first time I read the series, the 2nd book had just come out, so I grabbed the 1st and then the 2nd. I had to wait all those years in between the next books which may have clouded my appreciation for it. The second time reading, I went straight through. I read nothing else, and it was bliss. I really enjoyed that experience. Of course, after that he released Wind in the Keyhole, and I considered reading them all again, but Keyhole works as a stand-alone, thankfully.

message 303: by Jason (new)

Jason Parent | 69 comments Oh it does? I assumed there were like 9 novels in the series, but they can be broken apart?

message 304: by Adam (new)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments Well, there are 8 books. Wind in the Keyhole was published after the end of the series. King said read it as 4.5 so I would do that. You really can't read any of the others out of order. The difference with Wind is that it does not move the existing story forward at all. It's a little side trip that has a great story within a story set up, but its not essential to the overall story of the Tower at all.

Jason Parent | 69 comments Thanks, Adam. I came to this site thinking I knew a lot about horror. It's amazing how little I know.

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments I have learned a great deal here, Jason.

Hi, Jason!

I've also read DT twice (the 2nd time around just a year ago,) and each journey only gets better, IMO. I'd say they are very much worth your time.

message 309: by Jason (new)

Jason I think I'm one of the very few who weren't too thrilled with the Dark Tower series. I will say that it is worth your time. It is an amazing story but the parts of it I didn't like are unfortunately the ones that come to mind first.

Dustin Jason wrote: "Cool. Thanks, Dustin!"

You're most welcome, Jason.:)

message 312: by Jason (new)

Jason Parent | 69 comments I do remember a short story I read featuring Roland in one of his collections. I think it had vampire nurses or nuns or something (long time ago) and I remembering liking it.

message 313: by Adam (new)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments That was in Everything's Eventual, Jason. Can't remember the name of it now, either. It was quite good.

message 314: by GeneralTHC (new)

GeneralTHC The Little Sisters of Eluria (The Dark Tower, #0.5) by Stephen King ?

message 315: by Jason (new)

Jason Parent | 69 comments Yep, Chuck, that's the story, but like Adam said, it was also included in Everything's Eventual. I should check out the graphic novel, too though.

message 317: by Adam (new)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments Nice, Chuck!

Hi everyone,
I'm currently reading Private London by James Patterson. It is classic Patterson. Fans of Patterson will not be disappointed. Wishing you all the best! Happy reading! :)

message 324: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Seaberg (cricketseaberg) | 241 comments A Triumph For Sakura by Jason S. Ridler by Jason S. Ridler . I think this one is better than the first one in this series. I'm really enjoying it.

message 325: by GeneralTHC (new)

GeneralTHC I can't get interested anything. I am about to take up crocheting or something. This is pitiful.

message 326: by Diane (new)

Diane | 76 comments Chuck, my mother tried to teach me knitting and crocheting. Trust me, you do not want to ho there. Counted cross-stitch looked kind of cool though.

You're in a reading slump, my friend. It happens to me a couple of times per year. Just ride it out, it'll pass. Sometimes turning to an old favourite helps me climb out of it.

I have Saint on loan from the library Dustin. I'm attempting to catch up on some of my reads before I start it. Have backed off to one read at a time. Unfortunately, I had to. Can't wait to read it.

Yeah, I reckon so. I just hate having a bunch half-read books on my CR.

message 331: by [deleted user] (new)

Don't feel bad Chuck. I have seven on my to-read right now. Have backed off to just one at a time. I am just concentrating on Swan Song until I finish it. Then I will figure out which one on my to-read list I like best and finish it.

message 332: by GeneralTHC (new)

GeneralTHC Diane wrote: "Chuck, my mother tried to teach me knitting and crocheting. Trust me, you do not want to ho there. Counted cross-stitch looked kind of cool though."

I'll take you word for it. ;)

I think I'm about to read some Cormac McCarthy and see if that'll snap me out of my slump.

Sounds like a plan. I'm just a bit OCD, I guess.

Me too and I was really stressing over it for a while. I can't afford to be stressed out all the time.

I think you'll really like it, Cindy. Saint is much better than Showdown, IMO. I'll be starting Sinner later this week. I can't wait to find out how everything ties together, and the end result, of course!

Dustin Cindy wrote: "Me too and I was really stressing over it for a while. I can't afford to be stressed out all the time."

Nope, all that stress is not worth it! Are you getting a lot out of Swan Song?

message 338: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm really liking Swan Song Dustin. I'm just not liking the descriptive scene involving (view spoiler) in chapter 40.

message 339: by Dennis (new)

Dennis | 24 comments I just started NOS4A2 and I am really liking so far

message 340: by Adam (new)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments Glad you are liking Swan Song, Cindy.

message 341: by Adam (new)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments NOS4A2 is great, Dennis. One of my favorite of Joe Hill. All of his books have been superb in my opinion, though.

GeneralTHC Adam wrote: "NOS4A2 is great, Dennis. One of my favorite of Joe Hill. All of his books have been superb in my opinion, though."

I've liked all Hill's books too, but I think HEART-SHAPED BOX is my favorite.

message 343: by GeneralTHC (new)

GeneralTHC Trying to read an almost 600 page book today, or rather before I crash tonight. I think I can do it; I've had significantly bigger reading days in the not-so-distant past.

The Son by Philipp Meyer

message 344: by Dustin (new)

Dustin Cindy wrote: "I'm really liking Swan Song Dustin. I'm just not liking the descriptive scene involving [spoilers removed] in chapter 40."

I am happy to hear this, Cindy! I don't recall any of the characters you mentioned, let alone (view spoiler) I really miss this book, and wish I could have joined the buddy read!

message 345: by Dustin (new)

Dustin I started Sinner yesterday. I'm only 52 pages in, but it's pretty interesting so far. Very thought-provoking and intellectual. It's great to catch up with two of the characters from the 1st book, too!

I'll also be starting A Feast for Crows soon!

GeneralTHC Finishing up Double Dexter (Dexter, #6) by Jeff Lindsay right now and will be reading Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo later tonight. Probably read a novella or a short novel during the day today, but not sure what exactly.
