Jason, the first time I read the series, the 2nd book had just come out, so I grabbed the 1st and then the 2nd. I had to wait all those years in between the next books which may have clouded my appreciation for it. The second time reading, I went straight through. I read nothing else, and it was bliss. I really enjoyed that experience. Of course, after that he released Wind in the Keyhole, and I considered reading them all again, but Keyhole works as a stand-alone, thankfully.

Oh it does? I assumed there were like 9 novels in the series, but they can be broken apart?

Well, there are 8 books. Wind in the Keyhole was published after the end of the series. King said read it as 4.5 so I would do that. You really can't read any of the others out of order. The difference with Wind is that it does not move the existing story forward at all. It's a little side trip that has a great story within a story set up, but its not essential to the overall story of the Tower at all.

I've also read DT twice (the 2nd time around just a year ago,) and each journey only gets better, IMO. I'd say they are very much worth your time.

Jason I think I'm one of the very few who weren't too thrilled with the Dark Tower series. I will say that it is worth your time. It is an amazing story but the parts of it I didn't like are unfortunately the ones that come to mind first.

I do remember a short story I read featuring Roland in one of his collections. I think it had vampire nurses or nuns or something (long time ago) and I remembering liking it.

Chuck, my mother tried to teach me knitting and crocheting. Trust me, you do not want to ho there. Counted cross-stitch looked kind of cool though.

You're in a reading slump, my friend. It happens to me a couple of times per year. Just ride it out, it'll pass. Sometimes turning to an old favourite helps me climb out of it.

I have Saint on loan from the library Dustin. I'm attempting to catch up on some of my reads before I start it. Have backed off to one read at a time. Unfortunately, I had to. Can't wait to read it.

Don't feel bad Chuck. I have seven on my to-read right now. Have backed off to just one at a time. I am just concentrating on Swan Song until I finish it. Then I will figure out which one on my to-read list I like best and finish it.

I think you'll really like it, Cindy. Saint is much better than Showdown, IMO. I'll be starting Sinner later this week. I can't wait to find out how everything ties together, and the end result, of course!

I'm really liking Swan Song Dustin. I'm just not liking the descriptive scene involving (view spoiler)[ the rape of Roland. Or I should say, the possibility of rape because I'm not quite there yet. I've read the part where he was drugged and Kempka has taken his belt off (hide spoiler)] in chapter 40.

NOS4A2 is great, Dennis. One of my favorite of Joe Hill. All of his books have been superb in my opinion, though.

I am happy to hear this, Cindy! I don't recall any of the characters you mentioned, let alone (view spoiler)[a possible rape.. (hide spoiler)] I really miss this book, and wish I could have joined the buddy read!

I started Sinner yesterday. I'm only 52 pages in, but it's pretty interesting so far. Very thought-provoking and intellectual. It's great to catch up with two of the characters from the 1st book, too!
