I like to read the book before watching the TV show or movie. But that's just so I can imagine it all in my head proper. I'm reading The Whisperers by John Connolly. That's not as a group read but just as it was on my tbr pile. I love the Charlie Parker books.

I prefer to read the stories first, too, but doesn't always happen that way.:) Interestingly enough, the novel feels really fresh to me, almost as if I hadn't seen the movie.

The details of the novel really are incredible! So far the film follows it pretty closely, but the prose is soo much more extensive. A little slow in Part I, but certainly relevant to the character's development. Don't worry, you'll be the first person I plan on discussing it with.. I'm curious if the endings are the same, too, because I don't recall the denouement being all that profound. I'll definitely be PMing you when I'm finished!! Thank you, Kathleen!

I actually just finished Easy today, I really enjoyed it. If you like ya romance have you tried the Pushing the Limits series? I read them all last week and really liked them.

Haven't read City of Bones (I was waiting for the series to finish before starting it) I did see the movie and didn't like it much, but my friends teenage daughter was watching it with me and she was telling about all the stuff they changed or left out.

The first 2 don't have as much as want you want. Pushing the Limits is about a girl that was attacked by her mom and can't remember what happened and a (bad) boy living in foster care. they end up working together to get into their counselor files so she can remember what happened that night and he can find out where his little brothers are.
Dare You To is the friend of the first boy and her uncle takes custody of her from her mom and she spends a lot of time trying to rescue her mom from a abusive drug dealing boyfriend. She tricks a boy interested in her into taking her back to her old town.
Crash into You This one is probably more what you want. this one is about the foster brother from the first one. it revolves around street racing and helping a girl who owes a lot of money to the wrong ppl.

and for forbidden romances maybe try Teach Me I have it but I haven't started it yet so I can't really say if its any good.

I read that last year and loved it, I like most of his books. I've just read good omens and its not the first time but its still so good, but now I'm going to stick and read the shadow of the wind.

I really appreciate your input, Kathleen. I think it could have been much more boring and slow as snails, and I still would have kept reading. Martel's writing is too beautiful to do otherwise, IMO! I was fully engaged around the start of Part II. I've been curious about your love of the ending, and the fact that it blew you away like no other (I'm presuming.) What was so AMAZING about it to you? You're referring to the island, correct?

That's a massive book Dustin, I didn't know it was that long! I'm trying to finish Shadow of the Wind, I keep reading lots of others thinking I'll read some more later:)

Oh yes, it's quite long! Though not as long as it may seem, due the various editions and footnotes at the end. For instance, the Penguin Classics version (the one I'm reading from,) is like 986 or so, excluding the Notes section. Still almost a 1000, but not as long as it would appear..

Currently reading: I Am Malala and I am having a hard time getting through the first part of the book. She writes about the country history. I have been told by friends that it does get better. Any thoughts would be helpful.

Dweller is a great short book, Gregor. One of the best I read last year. I recommend checking out Strand's Pressure as well. I read that first and was extremely impressed.
