I just finished The Hunger Games and I couldn't start anything else new last night. I had to let that one settle a..."
Sara, I really didn't think I wanted to read it at first either, but I am so glad that I did. I was very pleasantly surprised.

I finally picked it up this afternoon (hubby was hogging the computer, and it was too early to start dinner...), and I finished it in two sittings. Pre-dinner and post-dinner. It was AWESOME. And for the record, it took me about 20 pages to get over the writing style. So the first chapter. At that point, I didn't give a freaking care how it was written. I was sucked in! ;)

I'm just jumping in the The Hunger Games discussion (even though I know it's about what we're reading!) . . . I loved this book and my students who read it loved it too! I read it about a year ago, couldn't put it down and read it very quickly. I got to the end and discovered that it wasn't really over, hurried to my computer to find the next title and found the next book wasn't out until September '09. And now, I'm so excited because it's September '09!!!
For me, it was one of those books that I knew my students would love. It's hard to entice kids and not freak out parents with the, " . . . and they are set into the wilderness and they have to fight 'til the death . . ." part. But I did spread the word (gushed is more like it), my kids started reading it and talking about it with other kids and the fire spread between them. I haven't seen kids react to a book like that since Harry Potter. Very exciting.
BTW, I'm re-reading A Breath of Snow and Ashes before next book comes out next month and then, I'm going to read Catching Fire and whatever September books win for our group here.
September is going to be a great reading month! Woohoo!

:) Awesome! I read this series a little weird. My husband picked up Ink Exchange for me thinking I would like it and I read it without knowing it was part of a series! So I went back and read the first and now the series makes a whole lot more sense...

Oh, maybe Ink Exchange is next. Whichever one is book 2. I can't remember. I hate when I read a book out of order... They should VERY CLEARLY LABEL them so that you'll know...
I agree!! Ink Exchange is book 2 and Fragile Eternity is book 3. Ink Exchange follows a different character than the other 2, but if I were you I would still read them in order because the events happen in that order. :) Enjoy!

I'm also trudging through A Canticle for Leibowitz which has been tough. I quit once but started again. I was so bored through Part I, but it is becoming more interesting. I'm not having to constantly rededicate myself.
I am reading Nurtureshock-from Bo Bronson(pub date sept 09) about how we parents have some things really assbackwards-it's pretty good, not to offensive, sometimes this type of book makes you feel REALLY bad about, well, everything. I've also finished Mysterious Benedict Society-which was entertaining. I read this really fun book due in October by Mark Teague called DOOM MACHINE-a middle grade-Lost in Space 1950's romp-reminded me somewhat of Iron Giant and Johnny Newtron, very campy-has anyone read M.T. Anderson's Whales on Stilts?-very funny. Also HUSH, HUSH which I almost really liked-I thought the writing was good, but the plot had a few problems and felt too familiar-like what is it with all of these ancient, immortal beings falling in love with high-school students(of course if I actually was a high school student it would be cool to have some hot immortal dude in love with ME.....) Anyway, I loved Hunger Games and you all are going to freak out when you read CATCHING FIRE! wow! I am anxious for it to come out so I can hear what people think......

Thoroughly enjoyed both of those. (and hello? I want my own Jean Claude)
Anyway, I started Ash yesterday, which I am not as thrilled about as I wanted to be, but we'll see. Next up, I think, is going to be Savvy. I am saving the Hunger Games for a bit.

You mean until you can go book one/book two, no waiting right :P
Alix, these are the two books I am reading also! I'm half way through Fragile Eternity and my husband just bought me the whole House of Night series. :) I'm enjoying Fragile Eternity, but I want to just finish it, maybe I will tonight (no netflix today).

That would be nice, but no. More like waiting until I have time to devote. Everyone raves, so I don't want to get sucked in and only be able to read it in fits because this is a busy week or so for me.

Anyway, I'm going to start either Deerskin for the challenge, or Blood Bound (adult) just because I want to.
Gave up on both Edgar Sawtelle (started of really well and lost me in the middle) and The Invention of Everything Else
Am now reading a weird thing: Darwin: A Graphic Biography, a comic book of Charles Darwin's life and work. (can't get the linky thing to work - here's the page:

I am following it and hoping to participate to some extent, but I am waiting (and waiting and waiting) on various zombie books. I do have P&P&Z, though, so it may have to suffice.
I posted a Zombie Mayhem and Madness post with various awesomeness I found...
What are you doing for Zombie Week?

It's nice having him around at least for that purpose LOL

I love that phrase. ;) I think that would be a great away message on instant messenger programs... "Sara is away laughing on a fast camel..."

I also just finished Blood Promise, and I feel that same way! With the first three, it felt like there was a clear trajectory--everything in the book was leading up to something big, and I just didn't get that from this one. I'm hoping this was just the "set-up" book for number 5 and that one will make up for it...
