Cindy Edwards (cmedwards) Kathy, I agree the paperback cover is very attractive. I can not wait to start reading it. I just got The Time Travelers Wife in and will be reading it first but Impossible is next on my list. If only I could read for a living instead of working...

Sara, I really didn't think I wanted to read it at first either, but I am so glad that I did. I was very pleasantly surprised.

Bhumi | 274 comments I'm almost done with A Sweet Far Thing, and it is soooo good. I'm really glad I decided to read the last book in the trilogy.

I finally picked it up this afternoon (hubby was hogging the computer, and it was too early to start dinner...), and I finished it in two sittings. Pre-dinner and post-dinner. It was AWESOME. And for the record, it took me about 20 pages to get over the writing style. So the first chapter. At that point, I didn't give a freaking care how it was written. I was sucked in! ;)

I'm just jumping in the The Hunger Games discussion (even though I know it's about what we're reading!) . . . I loved this book and my students who read it loved it too! I read it about a year ago, couldn't put it down and read it very quickly. I got to the end and discovered that it wasn't really over, hurried to my computer to find the next title and found the next book wasn't out until September '09. And now, I'm so excited because it's September '09!!!

For me, it was one of those books that I knew my students would love. It's hard to entice kids and not freak out parents with the, " . . . and they are set into the wilderness and they have to fight 'til the death . . ." part. But I did spread the word (gushed is more like it), my kids started reading it and talking about it with other kids and the fire spread between them. I haven't seen kids react to a book like that since Harry Potter. Very exciting.

BTW, I'm re-reading A Breath of Snow and Ashes before next book comes out next month and then, I'm going to read Catching Fire and whatever September books win for our group here.

September is going to be a great reading month! Woohoo!

Kathy (readr4ever) | 342 comments I finished Impossible last night and loved it. I heartily recommend it. I think the group would enjoy it as a group read.

message 860: by Misty (new)

Misty | 1505 comments Reading an adult book at the moment (Moon Called), but I just picked up a bunch of books from the library, Savvy, The Hunger Games and Ash among them. I think I'm going to start with Ash, but I might have to eeny-meeny-mieny-mo it, because I want to read all of them so much.

:) Awesome! I read this series a little weird. My husband picked up Ink Exchange for me thinking I would like it and I read it without knowing it was part of a series! So I went back and read the first and now the series makes a whole lot more sense...

Oh, maybe Ink Exchange is next. Whichever one is book 2. I can't remember. I hate when I read a book out of order... They should VERY CLEARLY LABEL them so that you'll know...

message 863: by [deleted user] (new)

I agree!! Ink Exchange is book 2 and Fragile Eternity is book 3. Ink Exchange follows a different character than the other 2, but if I were you I would still read them in order because the events happen in that order. :) Enjoy!

Bhumi | 274 comments lol I'm about to read Fragile Eternity...Let's see how it goes.

message 866: by Dan (new)

Dan (dand) I'm currently reading "Alas, Babylon" which I am really enjoying. So far a bit more optimistic than I expected.

I'm also trudging through A Canticle for Leibowitz which has been tough. I quit once but started again. I was so bored through Part I, but it is becoming more interesting. I'm not having to constantly rededicate myself.

message 867: by [deleted user] (last edited Aug 25, 2009 07:52PM) (new)

I am reading Nurtureshock-from Bo Bronson(pub date sept 09) about how we parents have some things really assbackwards-it's pretty good, not to offensive, sometimes this type of book makes you feel REALLY bad about, well, everything. I've also finished Mysterious Benedict Society-which was entertaining. I read this really fun book due in October by Mark Teague called DOOM MACHINE-a middle grade-Lost in Space 1950's romp-reminded me somewhat of Iron Giant and Johnny Newtron, very campy-has anyone read M.T. Anderson's Whales on Stilts?-very funny. Also HUSH, HUSH which I almost really liked-I thought the writing was good, but the plot had a few problems and felt too familiar-like what is it with all of these ancient, immortal beings falling in love with high-school students(of course if I actually was a high school student it would be cool to have some hot immortal dude in love with ME.....) Anyway, I loved Hunger Games and you all are going to freak out when you read CATCHING FIRE! wow! I am anxious for it to come out so I can hear what people think......

message 868: by Pollyanna (new)

Pollyanna (polly8) I just finished Circus of the Damned (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #3)which I loved and I am now starting to read Jane Eyreas part of another book club.

message 870: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 719 comments I just finished Maus II A Survivor's Tale And Here My Troubles Began. Not sure what I'll read next. I really need to finish Ishmael: An Adventure of the Mind and Spirit, which I was supposed to have read for my real-life book group in July... Oops!

Thoroughly enjoyed both of those. (and hello? I want my own Jean Claude)

Anyway, I started Ash yesterday, which I am not as thrilled about as I wanted to be, but we'll see. Next up, I think, is going to be Savvy. I am saving the Hunger Games for a bit.

Alix (goaskalix) Just finished Fragile Eternity (loves it) and am working my way through House of Night(s) now.

message 874: by [deleted user] (new)

Alix, these are the two books I am reading also! I'm half way through Fragile Eternity and my husband just bought me the whole House of Night series. :) I'm enjoying Fragile Eternity, but I want to just finish it, maybe I will tonight (no netflix today).

That would be nice, but no. More like waiting until I have time to devote. Everyone raves, so I don't want to get sucked in and only be able to read it in fits because this is a busy week or so for me.

Elizabeth (Miss Eliza) (strange_misseliza) | 31 comments Ah, yes that would make sense, annoying to want to do one thing but HAVE to do another.

message 878: by April (new)

April (booksandwine) | 312 comments I'm currently read 13 Little Blue Envelopes by Maureen Johnson. It's great so far. I'm playing the rest of the week by ear, but I hope to read some zombie related books since it's zombies week in the blogosphere.

message 879: by Misty (new)

Misty | 1505 comments I was hoping The Forest of Hands and Teeth would get to me in time, but it doesn't look like it will. :(
Anyway, I'm going to start either Deerskin for the challenge, or Blood Bound (adult) just because I want to.

message 880: by [deleted user] (last edited Aug 31, 2009 08:25AM) (new)

Gave up on both Edgar Sawtelle (started of really well and lost me in the middle) and The Invention of Everything Else

Am now reading a weird thing: Darwin: A Graphic Biography, a comic book of Charles Darwin's life and work. (can't get the linky thing to work - here's the page:

message 882: by [deleted user] (new)

Misty | 1505 comments April wrote: "Misty, are you participating in zombies week?"

I am following it and hoping to participate to some extent, but I am waiting (and waiting and waiting) on various zombie books. I do have P&P&Z, though, so it may have to suffice.
I posted a Zombie Mayhem and Madness post with various awesomeness I found...

What are you doing for Zombie Week?

message 884: by April (new)

April (booksandwine) | 312 comments I plan on reading the Forest of Hands and Teeth as well as PPZ and if I have time I have a compilation of zombie short stories - The Living Dead. I tried watching Dawn of the Dead last night but wimped out, it was too scary LOL. Maybe I'll try and watch some MST3k zombie movie and do highlights from it LOL. I also have to fit in two books that have nothing to do with zombies, thatI was sent for review, fun times.

message 885: by Misty (new)

Misty | 1505 comments I wonder if Shawn of the Dead would count? Hilarious, icky and awesome.

Elizabeth (Miss Eliza) (strange_misseliza) | 31 comments I love Shaun of the Dead! You could read the comic book adaptation! That would be sure to count...http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/12...

message 887: by Misty (new)

Misty | 1505 comments I didn't know there was a comic book version. Unfortunately, there's no way it would get to me in time, but I am definitely going to look that up. I ought to just go raid my friend's house; she's zombie-obsessed.

Elizabeth (Miss Eliza) (strange_misseliza) | 31 comments It's nice to have people who are Zombie obsessed, because when the inevitable Zombie uprising starts, they've probably thought about ways to avoid infection.

message 889: by April (new)

April (booksandwine) | 312 comments My boyfriend is zombie-obsessed. We've got World War Z, Patient Zero, and those other books I mentioned. We have a ridiculous amount of zombies movies.

It's nice having him around at least for that purpose LOL

message 890: by Misty (new)

Misty | 1505 comments Slightly off-topic (but only slightly), does anyone know of any good books about mummies?

Elizabeth (Miss Eliza) (strange_misseliza) | 31 comments The Theodosia Throckmorton books are awesome books, they have mummies in them, so do the Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters, that's not YA though. If you're looking for more non-fiction, I can't help.

message 892: by Misty (new)

Misty | 1505 comments Nope, definitely fiction. I am thinking of Halloween things, and I drew a blank on mummies. Thanks Elizabeth. At least that's somewhere to start.

Elizabeth (Miss Eliza) (strange_misseliza) | 31 comments They are also totally awesome, I love the Theodosia books. There is also The Egypt Game...I'm sure there are more, I'll let you know if I think of any more.

message 894: by Alisha Marie (last edited Aug 31, 2009 08:17PM) (new)

Alisha Marie (endlesswonderofreading) I finished reading Evermore by Alyson Noel, and thought it was okay. It was a little too much like Twilight for me (though I thought it was a bit better than Twilight) and since I didn't really like Twilight, it wasn't that great. I'm still intrigued enough to read Blue Moon, but not anytime soon. Now, I'm going to pick up The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath and I'm excited since it's my first time reading it.

I also just finished Blood Promise, and I feel that same way! With the first three, it felt like there was a clear trajectory--everything in the book was leading up to something big, and I just didn't get that from this one. I'm hoping this was just the "set-up" book for number 5 and that one will make up for it...

message 900: by [deleted user] (new)

Finished Blue Moon and am now reading Girl with a Pearl Earring.
