I used to listen to any music, but now that I'm addicted to ambient music and sounds on Youtube that's almost all I use. And I have tons bookmarked depending on mood.

What ambient music do you listen to Alan? Can you drop a link or two in here? I would like to check it out. :)
Here's just a sampling (I have literally dozens of things bookmarked just depending on my mood)

Never thought about reading with sound ambients! Too Cool!

I read faster with any kind of music on in the background, ambient or hard rock. I've just gotten so used to ambient stuff actual songs aren't as effective as they used to be, but still work.

Let it be known that the legendary JOHN CARPENTER has a few solo albums of his surreal horror-themed songs. It's amazing, especially his latest "Lost Themes III: Alive After Death" album. It's perfect for reading horror :-)

Will have to give this a listen tonight. :)

Same! I envy folks who can read anything (books, work stuff, etc) while someone is talking (or singing).
Now that it's getting warmer out, I've been enjoying some Brazilian jazz from the 50s/60s/70s near an open window, a comfy chair, and my current read. (I know, samba/bossa nova + horror? But it works - try it!)

This is (one of) the latest I found. Great for reading horror/mystery.

I have 6 kids at home so my mastery of parenting involves a really loud fan and waiting for those odd times when the house is empty. Airplanes are also good! I envy your ability to be able to read with all that going on!

I listen to my books, so THEY block out the noise. 2-in-1 solution! 🤣

Found an awesome new YT channel for music, this guy will take like the whole Batman trilogy and use music from all 3 to make one video of music, and from other movies, really neat for reading.

Hey Anne, i have that ringing in my left ear. Had it since 1994. I do find though that aside of music some background stuff like wind and blizzrd sounds help to mask the ringing. At least for me.

This link is for the Jackson Hole Wyoming town center. The cam does pic up traffic and crowd sound. Its not obtrusive so it works for me.

And sometimes I just like it quiet.
I really love reading horror novels when it's storming out though.

I didn't notice when the ringing in my ears started but it's been quite a while. Actually, right now I have a fan going but soon it will be the air conditioner and I can deal with those. Just nothing with words or a beat or anything I want to pay attention to.

The best audio books put a little sound effort into them. There is a setting on your phone to listen to two different apps at once, so I'll sometimes put my own small beat in the background of an audio book just to help pay attention.

Here's a new Halloween light background music video I found on YouTube.
