Totally agree with You, Im team Evan all the way, I hope he is still alive. Evan betrayed his kind to help Cassie, he was all about Cassie. I hope Cassie does not go for Ben. Ringer did seem a little off to me, so maybe.

And when he read her diary...and I also found it somewhat creepy that he let her wear his dead sister's clothes and sleep in her room and stuff...

I didn't even think about that. But it's true that he had some experience watching the way humans acted so he could blend in... but somehow he didn't pick up on any ways to avoid being a perv? Unlikely. You can't chalk the whole thing up to his alien-ness because it wasn't like he was new the earth on that day, he's been around the block a few times.

And when he read her diary...and I also found it somewhat cre..."
I think we all need to remember that "creepiness" is subjective and as other posters have said, quite a few of a the things that added to Evan's creepiness factor can be reasonably justified.
I have to disagree. I don't think Evan turned Cassie into a "sappy little girl". If this was the case, she really wouldn't have fought back so hard or questioned Evan so much. She still wanted to save Sammy, she still totally planned to leave by herself. A "sappy little girl" would have stayed in the cabin with Evan until kingdom come OR begged Evan to come with her to save her brother.
Yes, she deeply cares for Evan however, she has not lost herself.
All that being said, I'm totes Team Evan. He is kind, loving, selfless, and maybe overprotecitve (who doesn't have flaws). I wouldn't describe him as creepy but maybe awkward. There was definitely something a little off about him. Okay yeah, hes basically lived as a human, he's observed human but we can all agree he isn't EXACTLY human. This might account for his questionable behavior.
I'm convinced Evan and Cassie will end up together. And so will Ben and Ringer.

I have to say I like Ben/Zombie more though, not necessarily for Cassie, but just as a character.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that. But, I was just happy to read something where that happens and the first thought the person has isn't "Where am I? How did I get here?" It was "What happen to my clothes?!"

At first he was a bit intense it's true, but at the time he was still struggling with his feelings.
Bathing her was a bit creepy, but it was for her own good, lying in your own blood doesn't seem very pleasant...
Reading the diary...bad move buddy. But I believe that reading the diary was the thing that nade him fall in love with Cassie and not the whole first sight thing. The first time he saw Cassie I think he was intrigued and maybe curious, something made him not kill her, but I doubt it was instant love.
Cassie was never held against her will, she didn't leave because she didn't want to leave, and the same Said about the kisses, Evan never forced her into anything.
I liked Ben, but not for Cassie. He and Ringer are a good match.
SPOILER ALERT
That part in the end, when Cassie and Evan save the day, was amazing, my favorite part!
But did Evan die or not?! I hate cliffhangers! And I didn't like the Ben, Cassie moment at the end...
(By the way, some years ago I watched an anime, the only one I ever watched actually, called Death Note and Evan reminds of a character named Riuzaky, he wasn't creepy, just socialy awkward, he really is a lot like Evan.)

He redeemed himself in my eyes.
Unfortunately he wasn't in the end of the book, but I hope he comes back in the next!
I was waiting for Ben and Cassie to meet and I'm happy how it played out, but I don't think they should end up together.
I think after meeting Evan it will be too late for anything serious to develop between Ben and Cassie.
At least, I hope so.
I want Evan to come back and Cassie to want to be with him!

On the other hand I do love Ben/Zombie. I love him a lot. As a character, I like him more than Evan. However, I do NOT want him to be with Cassie and I'm actually second guessing how much I like him after he put the moves on her at the end. That really annoyed me and it was also a douchey thing to do. Like, hello, you just saw her with another guy and just because he's not there doesn't mean that she's available for you....I don't know. I like Ben with Ringer a lot better.

I don't think the bathing thing was weird or creepy really. Once this type of cataclysmic event occurs, I think a lot to do with modesty would be out the window because everyone would have to act as nurses and doctors for the few humans that are left. It's not as if he touched her inappropriately while unconscious, he cleaned her and put new clothes on her. Not the worst thing in my opinion. As for the journal which seems to be a big point of contention, I had thought (although I do not have the book in front of me so I could very well be not remembering this correctly), but did he not read the journal prior to him shooting her? I thought he made mention of reading it at her campsite in the woods and getting to know her that way. If that is indeed correct, I think that's probably what spurred his feelings for her and in the end stopped him from killing her, which he had ample opportunities to do.
Just my two cents. I liked Ben as a character very much as well but do not want him and Cassie together, although I fail to see an ending to the series which allows Evan and her to stay together. I feel as though he will not survive to the end of the series, pushing her towards Ben in the end. I just find the odds of Ben being the one other person who survives and she runs into too coincidental for nothing to happen with it. But I hope that I am wrong, as I prefer Evan with Cassie.

Cassie getting over it brings in the fantasy part of the story and when you read fantasy, things don't make sense all the time, because they don't have to. And if the author put in the fact that Cassie is okay with it and she got over it, they would think that the readers would be able to get over it and move on.
Kind of Spoiler:
In Catching Fire, I think in both the movie and the book, Katniss kisses Gale while he is unconscious after he is whipped.
End of Spoiler
You follow the main character while reading because you are the main character almost. Authors put situations in and then have the character react because that's how they think the readers will react. I know that you pick sides in books and you have the issues to discuss but there are elements that you just have to leave alone because the author used fantasy and there is no way to tell what is right or wrong about those except for what people are saying.
SPOILERS:
I was pretty sure that Ben's little sister died so there is nothing to agree or disagree about that.
END
No I don't just agree with everyone. I agree about whether I think that their actions were creepy or not in this case.
I get a ton out of reading by following my ways about author's ideas and being the main character if you will and I can pick out a lot of tiny things that make people think and turn them into discussions just by following my ways so I'm not missing out if I can still think.
I agree that it's your job to analyze what's happening, but more often than not, people will agree with the author and the story line.

/ˈfantəsē/
noun
noun: fantasy
the faculty or activity of imagining things, especially things that are impossible or improbable.
It doesn't have to make sense! And to me, Allegiant made perfect sense, but whatever. Most of the book makes sense and then some parts don't have to.
SPOILER:
At least in the movie I'm positive that Katniss is sitting next to her kitchen table and Gale is on the table unconscious and she kissed him.
END
I'm not saying that I follow blindly. I over think most things so it's not fair to say that I'm not critical about them. You're right. It's MORE FUN to be critical of a book and get a discussion out of things but some times, not thinking so hard about the story and just reading the outer parts can give you more than just the inside after you over think it.
SPOILER
You can not prove that Ben left his sister. His sister was taken and then he ran. He did not LEAVE her.
END
I lnow how to analyze and critically think. I know how to talk about it and go beneath the surface. Trust me. I know perfectly well how to do those things. Perfectly well.
I also know how to relate to author's backgrounds. I know.

SPOILER
BEN DIDN'T LEAVE HER THOUGH! She was taken and he ran. That in no way is leaving someone if they've already been taken.
END
As for Catching Fire, we were talking about how people do things to unconscious people all the time in movies and books and we don't find it creepy. And I brought up that scene.
I'm not ignoring anything.
It very well coul have been written differently, but it wasn't.

Absolutely not.
Being hot absolutely does not make up for being creepy. That's part of my point. He's explained as hot, which leads people to accept that he's being creepy as okay. If he were described as older or uglier, less people would think what he was doing was okay. But the thing is that it wasn't okay all along.
By the way, my feelings about Evan's creepiness are intensified by the fact that I see a pattern of accepting unacceptable behavior by guys in YA books (there's a trend of extreme possessiveness that's not okay, and then there's this) not all of my frustration is a reflection on The 5th Wave alone, but this book happened to be the one that boiled me over the top, so it got the brunt of my anger.
Thank you to everyone who managed to respond with evidence from the story, and thank you to everyone who managed not to insult people for having a different opinion about a book and/or character. Being able to discuss and analyze books (and other things you enjoy) is part of being a fan. Just because someone is critical of a story or character doesn't mean they didn't enjoy it, it just means that they want to hold authors accountable for the implications of what they're writing (intended or unintended).

On the other hand, I thought Ben was an excellently deep character. In the beginning I didn't think much of him - he seemed to be the typical highschool idiot at the center of every John Hugh's film - but reading through his transformation was astounding. He was so broken and lost, and was almost entirely brought back to life as a new person. The new Ben was strong and determined. He was admirably optimistic and out-spoken. The way he took care of his friends, Sammy in particular, was heartwarming to watch and I thoroughly enjoyed every second of it.
I think Cassie and Ben compliment each other in a way that Evan can't. They're both beautifully determined to protect those they love and will hopefully continue to do so in subsequent books.
Where Evan is far too much drama for my taste, Ben is simple.

I love Evan Walker and all his sweet, shy, creepy, socially inept, bad ass with a rifle, risks his life for the girl he loves, self. He would never do such a thing as to rape Cassie and Let's be real, Cassie would totally shoot him if he Evan(see what I did) tried.
CASSIE AND EVAN FOREVER!!!!!

@joann I love evan so much!! I do think he is alittle creepy( reading her diary and the minor stalking and all) sweet and all the other things that you said!

I COMPLETLY disagree with you. I hate ben, he is a player and didn't know she existed until she went to find sams
evan is creepy, there is no excuse for
that, so when people say he isn't creepy cause he is an alien it makes no sense, even where he is from I don't think that reading diaries and following people are considerd good. but he is sweet and loveable and just awesome. she didn't like him because he was hot she liked him because he is sweet and awesome.

Joann H (Queen and Lionheart) wrote: "I just am so confused by people saying Evan seems like a future rapist. I really don't see where it's coming from. Creepy? yes. I 100% agree, but he's an alien so I'm like, well duh, of course he s..."
Oh, he's coming back. I refuse to even entertain the idea of the slightest possibility of that not being true.

just thought I would put that out there. I also think ringer is suspicious. but... I luuuuuuv evan(;
