I car pool with coworkers who know of my reading habits and I do read in the backseat of the car with my ipod on. :)

I commute to work, so I read on the train and the subway.

It's very unnerving when you can't see anything past your phone's light!

Ha. Reminds me of one of David Sedaris' essays about his dad grounding him by sending him to his room...his room full of his books and toys and velvet curtains where he loved spending all day by himself anyway.

That story freaks me out anyway, especially the ending. Creepy atmosphere would only increase the scares.

Mixofsunandcloud | 538 comments My favourite is on the couch under a blanket with a dog on my feet. But I'll read just about anywhere.

I hadn't really given any thought to reading in places to increase the creepy factor.

Mehmet | 1241 comments My next day off i going to try reading in all the different rooms in my house and see which one is the best ! Ahhh comfy sofa and book here i come, cannot wait.....

message 60: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 1434 comments I like to read a bunch of places. I set up a reading nook in my office and I read there during the day a lot. Problem is the cats also love to sleep on that chair. I also like to read laying on the couch. Sometimes the boyfriend joins me. At night, I'll read in bed before going to sleep. On nice days I love to read on our front porch. We need to get a glider for it, right now I drag out a beach chair. Good for people watching the Starbucks patrons too.

Preferably with a cup of tea or even better, a glass of wine.

message 65: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 82 comments I have a 'reading chair' in my lounge which is my favourite place to read. I have a blanket I like to wrap myself up in too.

If I'm reading a horror I prefer to read at night, alone when it's dark, but other than that I don't have a preferred reading time. I do like to get up an extra hour early to read though.

message 66: by Chris (new)

Chris (bibliophile85) Doesn't matter what the genre is, my favored time and place to read is late at night, curled up in my warm bed :)

Although I must admit on hot Summer days, I do enjoy packing a small lunch and heading towards the lake with my book and spend some time reading and relaxing lakeside.

message 67: by Brandon (new)

Brandon Berntson | 2 comments In my favorite chair, early afternoon after all the writing is done, and a cup of tea. Doesn't get much better than that.

message 68: by Kilgallen (new)

Kilgallen | 79 comments I do most of my reading in the tub and in bed. Quiet and relaxing!

message 69: by LinBee (new)

LinBee My favorite time and place to read is when I'm eating a meal. I don't feel complete unless I'm reading. Unless I'm dining with someone of course.

My second favorite is in bed, right before I go to sleep.

message 70: by Nessa (new)

Nessa S (nessascalera) | 8 comments I like to read late at night-early morning (1-3am) and in my room

message 71: by Mehmet (new)

Mehmet | 1241 comments during the week while working i tend to read just before i go to sleep. So the bed is where i read the most. On my days off i read downstairs in the living room. So you could say i am a nocturnal reader ;-)

message 72: by Justin (new)

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 3047 comments I don't have a favorite place or time which is probably my problem!

I have plenty of time but never make reading a priority because I either end up doing something else or just dont feel like it. Too busy writing as well :/ I need to make more time to read...

message 73: by Mehmet (new)

Mehmet | 1241 comments Justin I have read quite a few comments from authors who said that routine is the key to writing. Even if you just sit down for an hour each day to write for a month imagine how much you could complete. You could do the same for reading ! I make sure i read everynight just before i go to sleep.

message 74: by Justin (new)

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 3047 comments Good idea. I am actually reading more because I have so many books backed up to read by fellow Indie authors. If only I could write a bit each day, hmm I'll see if I can fit that in too

Too much information? :p

message 76: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (ace-geek) I usually read at home in the living room. I can't focus easily in public areas with people talking. And I don't have a specific time, I just read when I've got time to read.

Yes please!

My favorite reading time has strangely shifted to early mornings ( best if on weekends so work free) and on the couch or in bed. But I also read during my work commute, anything to tune out those hoards of people which always feels like a blob of heads and legs around me at all times, doesn't help that I work in a super crowded area, ugh.

Yeah, ignoring things helps, mental vacation is even better. I was walking to work from Penn Station today and crossed the street only to walk into a dude who refused let me walk .. he saw me walking in my path with no one around me and decided to just stand in my way and not move like a statue even though he had plenty of room, its hard to explain but grr it was nuts, I wanted to punch him in the head.

I hate when they do that on the stairs to the train, particularly when they use the wrong side of the stairs. A person could get hurt doing that.....and they frequently do when they do it to me. ;)

Oh yeah :) My bf has done that move a few times, his stories make me laugh so hard I have tears, he had to push through this couple blocking the bottom of the escalator and they wouldn't move so he sort of barreled through to make his train, that he couldn't miss.. the fricken crazy lady ran after him and started yelling "asshole" into to subway car, lol.. but she didn't know where he was, so people were just starting at this dingo head chirping this hilarious word at no one in particular. lolol..

I made some jerk miss his train by forcing him to walk upstairs backwards at Times Square station. :)

Kill Bill style but hey, at least he got to keep his limbs :P

Reading on the train is great, really makes you forget that you're wasting time lol. Once I sat next to a guy who was reading the exact same copy, edition and all of the 2n Game of Thrones book, Clash of Kings, we probably looked hilarious from afar with this huge purple and gold book in our hands.

It is. I find trains very relaxing, I can dive into my book, no problem.

That is priceless! :)

message 91: by Holly (new)

Holly (goldikova) This time of the year I usually only have time to read after it gets dark. I am outside as long as we have daylight. I do the bulk of my reading in the winter when I go outside only reluctantly.....like to go to the library.

message 92: by Mehmet (new)

Mehmet | 1241 comments I use to reads lots on the train between 2000 - 2003 when i was going university. It was really a great time to read. It even helped me wake up early as i was excited to find out next chapter in the book !

message 93: by Olivia (new)

Olivia | 14 comments I prefer to read in bed at night with my window open, especially when its raining or stormy. I live in the country so I often hear foxes and owls which can be quite eerie. I like reading in bookshops too, especially if they have a convenient coffee shop :-)

message 94: by Mehmet (new)

Mehmet | 1241 comments Ahhh must be Waterstones book shop ! The only one i.eversaw with coffee shop was in Cambridge ! Think it was Waterstones... not sure now. Cup of how choc and a cake and book sounds lovely :-)

Oooh that sounds ambient :) We have windows here in the bedroom too but one doesn't have the right screening so that would just let the cat out and the misquitoes in. The other can be opened but if it's raining it gets rain inside, and otherwise it's too muggy. We don't have the cool creepy animal noises to accompany :(

Our bookstore got rid of their cafe to replace with frozen yogurt, lime green walls, and lime green, uncomfortable chairs :(

message 98: by Olivia (new)

Olivia | 14 comments Reading in library's can also be quite comforting. There used to be a Borders quite close to me until they decided to close it down :-( I live fairly close to a massive library which has just been refurbished and has about 4 different floors. I could spend all day there!

message 99: by Clayton (new)

Clayton (claytonsaurus) My favorite place to read is on the El. I have no idea why. It's not exactly the most peaceful setting. :) But I guess maybe THAT'S why. It offers a good escape from the calamity.

message 100: by Mehmet (new)

Mehmet | 1241 comments Since moving into my new house i have started new routine of reading. So i read in bed at night with my wife cuddled up and sleeping next to me. In the morning before i get up and go to work. Then on my off days in the living room, on the sofa. If possible i sometimes get to work early and read before father gets to work but that is rare.
