Shomeret | 70 comments I recently finished A Song Below Water by Bethany C. Morrow, a YA fantasy novel which is about mythical sirens as Black women faced with prejudice and efforts to control their voices. There was also a moving sisterly relationship between the two Black teen protagonists.

I loved it!

this is her debut novel. I enjoyed it very much. I hope you read her second book The Vanishing Half, another excellent read.

I started Pet by Akwaeke Emezi and I had to step away. This is kinda heavy. I read her debut Freshwater and loved it. Now that I think about it, it was heavy as well. Maybe I was in a different mindset then. 🤷🏾‍♀️
