Carol (carolfromnc) | 4597 comments I finished Astrophysics for People in a Hurry by Neil deGrasse Tyson, and gave it five stars. A lot of it was still over my head, but the audio version is so engaging and my difficulty in absorbing facts on this topic isn’t Dr.Tyson’s fault. Highly recommended.

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) | 4376 comments Someone just gave me the book An American Marriage by Tayari Jones. I have read her Silver Sparrow and enjoyed it, so I’m looking forward to this. Has anyone else read it?

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) | 4376 comments I should finish Americana. It was so long.

I avoided it for a long time because of that. It's difficult for me to stick with even the best novel that exceeds 400 pages. So a friend agreed to read it together as a buddy read via PMs. We'll see if her discipline can overcome my lack of it :)

Carol (carolfromnc) | 4597 comments I loved, loved, loved Ayiti, and I'm not typically a short story reader, but read it in an afternoon. Here's a link to my 5-star review:

Also, it is available to request at Edelweiss+, if that appeals to anyone.

I haven't read it, but have heard great things and am waitlisted at my library for it.

It's interesting. I am not sure what my thoughts are yet; I am still listening to it. I don't guess I have read anything like this before; it speculates a zombie apocalypse during the American slavery era. It represents some of the backwards "science" of the time - the way slave owners used to justify slavery with nonsense still applies to justifying using black people for fighting zombies ("shamblers"). I might read something like this again, but not right away.
