I finished Astrophysics for People in a Hurry by Neil deGrasse Tyson, and gave it five stars. A lot of it was still over my head, but the audio version is so engaging and my difficulty in absorbing facts on this topic isn’t Dr.Tyson’s fault. Highly recommended.

I started two books yesterday, one fiction, one non-fiction. I am reading Nowhere Is a Place with our group, and stayed up way too late because McFadden. I also began Denmark Vesey's Garden: Slavery and Memory in the Cradle of the Confederacy by Ethan Kytle, which is excellent.

I avoided it for a long time because of that. It's difficult for me to stick with even the best novel that exceeds 400 pages. So a friend agreed to read it together as a buddy read via PMs. We'll see if her discipline can overcome my lack of it :)

It's interesting. I am not sure what my thoughts are yet; I am still listening to it. I don't guess I have read anything like this before; it speculates a zombie apocalypse during the American slavery era. It represents some of the backwards "science" of the time - the way slave owners used to justify slavery with nonsense still applies to justifying using black people for fighting zombies ("shamblers"). I might read something like this again, but not right away.
