SOLVED. Book about a dog with a thunder-shaped scar? [s]

Hi guys,
I read this book a while ago, either in 2007 or 2008. It was one of the books in middle school chosen for Battle of The Books, if that helps. I don't remember much except for the fact that it was mostly about a male dog whose name was either thunder, or it had a thunder-shaped scar. Im leaning towards the latter one, but both may be wrong. Another scene I remember is that near the end, the dog gets shot by a group of....(robbers? I dont know). I don't remember if he dies or not, but it was serious. I know this isn't much to go on, but any help would be appreciated! Thanks guys!

I don't know about a book, but there was a movie "Bolt"? maybe this will help? maybe it was based on some book?

@Magda: No, I'm pretty sure that the book wasn't based off the movie, but there might be a chance I'm wrong.
@John: My bad, you're right. I think the dog had a lightning shaped scar, but the dog had something to do with thunder too. I remember that clearly. So maybe he was named thunder?
@Alicia: No, I don't think so. I checked the book summary and none of the details seem to match. Thanks though.
@Pamela: Once again, I don't think the plot of that book matches at all, since this book was mostly focused on the dog's life, though it talked about the owner too. Thanks though!

I don't know how significant this might be, but I think I remember the owner of the dog as being a middle-aged or older man. At the time the dog was shot, I think he was sitting beside him in one of those rocker chairs.

Doesn't quite sound like your book, although it's for younger readers, the dog is named Thunder, and he does get accidentally shot at one point. Set in Newfoundland in 1929.

You're actually right, that is my book! I read the book when I was pretty young, so maybe thats why I didn't remember too much of the plot. Now though, the names sound familiar. Thanks to all of you! And happy reading!
