Marjorie Oreilly | 1 comments Hi, I guess this is the welcome thread. I am Marjorie. I haven't been reading anything lately. However, I am over being burned out from school and ready to read some good books. I use to read P. D. James mystery novels until I felt that murder mysteries were depressing me. I am interested in something other than romance novels though

It covers a variety of topics: friendships, loyalty, secrets, trust, infidelity, change and how these can impact on the characters in the story. I would strongly recommend this book.

From the title, I think this is a book I should have read years ago when I did not think I was 'good enough' as a mother, and gave up custody of my kids. Too late, I discovered that they were horribly abused by their father and stepmother. I may not have been great, but I never would have hurt them! My heart was broken by the broken arm my son had, and the death of my daughter from a gun shot wound to the head. I am still trying to forgive myself.

Enchanted Inkwells (rii__reads) Hello fellow readers. I am currently reading The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George.

message 4541: by Gayle (new)

Gayle Fleming | 6 comments Just started Negroland by Margo Jefferson. It’s part memoir and part history book about the black “aristocracy” or as we used to call them, boogie black folks. I spent the second half of my childhood in this world after my parents were able to afford to move into a neighborhood of black doctored, lawyers, academics, etc. My parents didn’t fit in though. My mother was a secretary and my father was a merchant seaman. We had a very icy welcome to the neighborhood.

Loved this book so much! She is a relatable woman!

message 4543: by Tati (new)

Tati I have finished The Underground Railroad !! Such an amazing read - I like how his style of writing is different. It goes against the structure they teach you to conform to.

I am now reading a "Throwback" book The Perks of Being a Wallflower! I can relate to being a wallflower, for sure.
