Cheryl,
As a student of everything Russian to the postgraduate level (history, cinema, literature, politics, geography, art, and culture). may I recommend the following seminal work?
Orlando Figes
Natasha's Dance: A Cultural History of Russia
Published 10/17/2003 by Picador (paperback, 729 pages)
First published in 2002
It is long but key to understanding every aspect of Russian history, cultural or otherwise (Imperial and Soviet).
Best regards,
Brian D. Harvey

Thank you very much! I really do appreciate recommendations, especially since I am fairly new at studying this particular area of history. Again, thank you. Cheryl
My pleasure, Cheryl. As for the relatively new and seminal book on the cultural history of Russia by Orlando Figes, I had a reader's copy that I recently gifted to a Russian friend here in South Dakota because I had yet to tackle this comprehensive tome. However since it is now an essential reference book on all matters Russian, I (like you) must purchase a new copy to read myself. In the meantime, I have put it in my GoodReads profile under "want to read" ... Best regards, Brian.

Some of my favorite books have been recommended by friends. C

Try to see the movie! It is the best adaptation of a novel I have seen in years! The casting was exceptional and spot on!!

Yes, I loved it.
Just finished “Dark matter” by blake crouch. What a great page turning!! I would have read it in one sitting if I didn’t have family and kids.😃
I just finished reading, "How to Awaken Your Inner Dragon: Visualizations to Empower Yourself and the World," by Jen Ward. It is AMAZING, empowering and original information. Here's what the author writes about this book: "Either you know yourself to be a divine spark of God with freedom of choice or a breathing piece of matter that’s a victim of circumstance. Decide who you are. If you are a victim of circumstance then everyone else is a victim of circumstance as well. We are all made of the same stuff. But if you see the greatness in others, you must recognize greatness in yourself. If you then recognize greatness in yourself by default, you must take ownership of it." - Jen Ward.
