Beth , you know how much I love The Goldfinch so I do love the writing here just not the story and these characters .
Angela wrote: "Beth , you know how much I love The Goldfinch so I do love the writing here just not the story and these characters ."Maybe the book resonated with me because I was also really stupid at that age (although not in the same way as this crowd). I guess you have to get in touch with your inner college student so that you can relate to what Richard was feeling.
Angela wrote: "Beth , you know how much I love The Goldfinch so I do love the writing here just not the story and these characters ."This is very disheartening to hear.
Yikes! I'm in a minority too... I actually didn't like either book!! Verging on hated the Goldfinch :/

I"m reading Lexicon by Max Barry. It was recommended by a good friend who said she missed a day of work because she had to keep reading it. :)
About to start reading Hide and Seek by James Patterson - it's been on my shelf for far too long! In fact, I think I'm going to have to make sure that I don't buy any more eBooks until I've finished all the physical one's on my bookshelf!
Haha. Michael. I have so many books on my bookshelf and yet I went to a thrift store the other day and came out with a stack of five more. Words are my favorite kind of drug. :) Michael wrote: "About to start reading Hide and Seek by James Patterson - it's been on my shelf for far too long! That'so too bad. It's one of my all time top 5 books.
Just finished Deborah Crombie's latest, "Dwell in Darkness." Loved it - one of my favorite series. Am reading several - "Killing Plato" being one of them....had it a long time...finally decided to read it as a vacation read. It's a thriller. Lots of macho talk and some action/love story in crisis/moral issues/funny & snarky lines/ set in Thailand but main character is from USA. Also, listened to "Snowman" by Jo Nesbo in car. Drove extra 5 hours in one day so could finish it. My first by Nesbo. Not my last, I hope. Audio version very well done.

Anne, I also loved The Secret History so much - just thought it was so moving and the language brilliant.
Just finished Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty. Loved it! My favorite book this year. I really like this author.
Finished
by Margaret Atwood-- 3 StarsInteresting concept, just didn't reach that level where I connected with these characters, and didn't particularly care for the vague ending...
My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Finished
by Laura Lippman-- 2 StarsA well known author travels back to her hometown to un-cover an unknown murder of an infant. Nothing really stood out in this one for me...

I have just read Rose Under Fire, a definite 5 star book. My review : https://www.goodreads.com/review/show....Also read Far As the Eye Can See: A Novel - 3 stars but worth reading . My review :https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
How can you read so many books so quickly? I read fast but you're incredible! Plus, you always review - I just put it off and do a bunch at once. Your way is better! ☺️
Lela,I usually read around 2 books week depending on the length unless I end up having more time . I'm retired but am busy pretty much every day helping my mother , taking her to appointments etc , helping our with grandkids , so most of my reading is in the evening and late at night .
If I had more time , I would definitely read more !
Lela ,I almost always read one book at a time . The exception is going on now because of the group read of Ulysses and we are reading it one episode a week . If not for that , I can only focus on one at a time , especially if I am really liking it . I write my review right after I finish reading usually before I start another book .
Finished
by Anthony Doerr-- 4 Strong Stars!!WWII, Museum locksmith, Two souls connected, Jules Verne all come together to craft a brilliantly written novel that exudes magic.
My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Thanks. Angela. I usually read one at a time ,but, just lately, I've been doing several at once. It's confusing, though. I just had to have a break from one of them and I can only read the other during the day - it's scary & that's not my kind of book! I made a mistake and put my name down to win. They will give up on getting a review at the rate I'm going!

It's worth reading but I didn't like it as much as other Amy Tan's books. However; it had a great historical facts and it was an interesting read.
I just finished J. It was three stars for me for this Booker prize nominated book. My review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show.... I liked didn't love it but feel it's an important book.
Finished "The Salinger Contract." Very good book. Solid 4 stars. Great read. Review eventually. Have started "Turn of Mind" by Alice LaPlante. It's so well-written but it's painful for me because it is about my greatest fear.
Finished and loved Whistling Past the Graveyard. My review : https://www.goodreads.com/review/show....Will start today Suspended Sentences: Three Novellas. I want to see what this Nobel Prize winner's writing is like.
