Hi Francesco! Welcome to our group and to Goodreads! Being a teacher of literature, I'm sure you'll fit right in here and definitely add something to our discussions on the books that we read! I'm looking forward to your participation! Enjoy and happy reading! 😊

EllisB (ellisbeth01) | 1 comments Hi all! I'm new to this group and to Goodreads. I'm a university student from Croatia.

I've always preferred classics to newer literature, although I do read some contemporary fiction from time to time. Lately I've been interested in Japanese classics, such as Soseki Natsume and Mishima Yukio.

One of my favourite novels ever is Wuthering Heights.

message 4753: by [deleted user] (new)

As a newbie myself, I find it fascinating all the different types of folks that join this group. I love that I can meet people outside of the United States that love reading as much as I do. And Ira, I'm a Yankee fan too!

Welcome to the group. I hope you find some books that will interest you and join in some of the discussions. I see that you're reading No Longer Human. That's on my TBR, but I don't know if I'll get to it this year. What do you think of it? I have Japanese Tales of Mystery & Imagination planned for this year. I'd be interested to hear what some of your favourite Japanese classics are.

Welcome! I really need to read more of the Bronte sisters. I've only read Jane Eyre, and Wuthering Heights so far, but both got 5 stars from me. I have some Austen and Dickens planned for this year because I love what I've read so far. I hope you enjoy the group, and look forward to seeing you around.

Jon | 2 comments Hello all. My name is John, and I'm just a college student who didn't realize how much great literature I have missed out on in my (disappointing) high school education.

I'm a full-time student again, so classes consume most of my time. I still read as often as is available nowadays, either between classes or breaks from studying.

I just finished my first book choice, one a friend told me to read a while ago (The Picture of Dorian Grey) and mainly came here to see what others are reading, and hopefully get recommendations from my to-read list.

Thanks for your time!

I am Jolene and I live in Canada 🇨🇦. I am currently on maternity leave with my first baby and getting caught up on some bucket-list classic novels while she naps :) I have decided to only read classics for the rest of the year. I was motivated to do this by a new love: East of Eden, and an old love: Wuthering Heights ❤️. Happy to have found this group!

message 4784: by GollyRojer (new)

GollyRojer | 1 comments Hello, all. I have often encountered a reference to a classic and thought, "A person my age ought to have read this book," or, "I need to read that to find out what they're talking about." I have been catching up on classics in hit-or-miss fashion for a few years now. Hopefully, membership in this group will be an incentive to pick up the pace.

I recently went from software development to woodworking as a profession (woodworking was promoted from hobby status), a change which has made my schedule flexible, allowing more time for reading. I build useful workshop jigs, video the process, and post it on my YouTube channel, Wood Tools Workshop. I also sell a few shop products.

I am a drummer in a couple of bands. One plays blues and rock; the other is a Cowboy Church band. I've been playing since I was 12--over 50 years--and still get a spiritual recharge every time I play.

I enjoy most reading genres. Nonfiction such as Harari's Sapiens is a favorite. Sci-fi/fantasy, too. And horror. I care nothing for blood-and-gore slasher movies, but a story with a creeping sense of impending doom or a sudden horrifying revelation at the end will raise my goosebumps in a good way.

I will ease my way into the group's activities as I get more familiar with them. Looking forward it!

My name is Larry. I'm relatively new to GoodReads, but am planning to dive into Brothers Karamazov and join the discussion on that thread in this group (and hopefully many others over time).

I had an amazingly positive experience with the War and Peace Readalong with Yamini and Ange. Just finished that massive tome for the first time, after many failed attempts previously. So, now the decks are cleared and I'm ready to start Dostoyevsky. This will be the Summer of Nineteenth Century Russia, it appears.

I look forward to interacting with many of you.

Nate Weger (run8tech) | 1 comments Nate,
I love the classics, especially those by Russian authors.

Modern books just don't seem to capture the human condition for me.

Also, since they remain popular today there must be something about them that allows them that resonates with others as well.

I have a goodreads blog where I discuss mostly classics that I read.

Erin **Coffee and Book Addict** (coffeebookaddict) | 2 comments Hello all! My name is Erin. Reading has been a passion of mine ever since my dad read me Dr. Seuss books at night as a child. Books and reading have always had a special place in my life, and I spent half of my college career as an elementary education major with an endorsement in reading. The other half as an English/Creative Writing double major. Classic literature has always captivated me. It has a way of transporting me into era's I had never been. I am very excited to get back to reading some classics.

Welcome Erin! I missed out on Dr. Seuss as a kid, because my parents never read to me, but I loved reading them to my kids. Their favourites were The Cat in the Hat, and Fox in Sock because they liked hearing me mess up the tongue twisters :) . This group has introduced me to so many books I had never even heard of, it's great for classics lovers! Glad you joined us.
