Thank you for the great chance to be part of your group my favorite is Mark Twain and really like his style its actually how I started my journey into the world of reading and then onto writing my own. Can't beat a classic.

Hi and welcome Brian! We love our classic books here too so you've come to the right place to read them! Happy continued reading! 😊

Joanna Loves Reading (joannalovesreading) Hello all! My name is Joanna, and I am from Kansas. I grew up here and now have a family here. The very tiny town where I grew up had a very tiny library housed in what was once the city jail. All the books were hand-me-downs from other libraries and donations from community members. The classics section was well stocked; the new releases were not. My favorite genres are classics (of course), historical romance and fantasy (though it's been a while since I have read them). Austen is my favorite, but I also enjoy Elizabeth Gaskell, Charlotte Bronte, Mark Twain, Alexandre Dumas, Dostoyevsky, Oscar Wilde, and Edith Wharton, among others.

Hi and welcome Joanna! What a fabulous story of your growing up in a little town in Kansas, with a tiny library that once was the city jail! I also enjoy Austen (many members here do!), all Bronte sisters and Wilde! I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself here! Happy reading! 😊

H_West Hi all! 32 year old male from Sweden. I'm a fan of classics and do have some sort of thoughts of what I have to do and read before I die. :)

Not many of my friends share my passion for books and not classics in particular so some recommendations or discussions here is what I am looking for. As a family father the time for reading is reduced, but I try to put off some time when I can. Some of my favorites so far (even if it is impossible to rank them) is 1984, To kill a Mockingbird and the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Nice to meet you!

Welcome mister West :)
You found just the place to get inspired with more classic works to read. I don't always find the time and energy to start all the books every month, but even getting a classic short story in can lift the spirits.

I understand how hard it is to rank favorites, especially because yours are so different from one another. Just make sure you pass the love onto your children as well :)

Hi and welcome H_West! I think a lot of our members, myself included, have the same problem. Our friends (outside of Goodreads) just don't understand how we can read those old, stuffy, boring classics! Welcome to our group where everyone loves and enjoys reading classics! Taygus (looking0around) I'm Tay.
I used to be against reading classics.
Hush, blame school and dull teachers.

I recently picked up East of Eden and am over half way through. And after finishing a couple Orwells....I've become curious about trying and being open to other classics.

Quite cool the way you nominate nooks early and have such choice too. I really like that.

Hi Tay! Welcome! There are many members here who feel the same way, that the classics we had to read in school were dull and boring! Older and wiser now we realize that's not the case! So jump in, enjoy and happy reading! 🤗

message 4679: by Pink (new)

Pink | 5491 comments Welcome to the group Tay! I was turned off reading classics after I finished with school and didn't really return to them until my thirties. There's so much to choose from, that's why we like having several options each month, as we all like different things. I hope you enjoy it here and find some more classics that work for you :)

message 4681: by Ian (new)

Ian Anderson (beyondthemargin) | 7 comments Hey, everyone! I'm Ian. I've been looking for better ways to share my book experiences with people and I noticed Wuthering Heights is coming up on your list. It's one I've been meaning to get to so I thought this would be a great way to jump into it with other people. I've been using Goodreads for awhile but haven't taken advantage of the groups on here so I'm looking forward to it.

I'm from Pennsylvania which has an interesting mix of both urban and rural areas. I have no real academic background of literature but have really taken a strong interest in it since picking up reading books about a year ago. I try to write little reviews of books as I go mainly to reflect and help others get a feel for what they can expect from the book. I really like books that do something for me emotionally whether it's nostalgic or full of melancholy. I also like finding hidden gems, which I sometimes spend more searching than actually reading them. If the book has memorable scenes and characters I'm all for it. My favorite author so far in my short reading life has probably been John Steinbeck. I just love his prose and the atmosphere he was able to create. I only have a few people in my life that are interested in books let alone old classics, so I'm hoping to share my book experiences with more people :)

Hi and welcome Ian! So glad that you decided to join a group on Goodreads! You'll find that our group is very friendly and they will be more than interested in sharing discussions on the books that we read! Jump in, anywhere! Any, hey, enjoy Wuthering Heights! It's a fabulous book and my absolute favorite! 😊

message 4685: by Madhumayi (new)

Madhumayi Hey everyone! I'm Madhumayi, 16, high school junior from India. My favourite genres are classics, historical fiction, magical realism, graphic novels, political satire and dystopian. I recently came to know about pulp fiction and found it really interesting.
Some of my favourite authors are Fyodor Dostoevsky, Thomas Hardy, Haruki Murakami, Sylvia Plath, Hemingway and Fitzerald and many more. (I don't think I have a particularly favourite author book. Every book I've read so far, I loved it) I'm currently reading Murakami's IQ84.
I'm planning to read works of Jane Austen, Brontë Sisters and Charles Dickens soon and would love to have you all recommend me books.
Besides reading books, I love music. Mostly jazz and classic. The Beatles is my favourite music band.

Madhumayi, sounds like you enjoy classics as much as we all do, so you're in a good group here!
I'm interested in what you think of IQ84. I have been wanting to read it, but it's SO long and I'm daunted by that. Also, I have read a couple of Murakami's books and they sometimes end strangely. I'd hate to read that long book and then not understand how it ended!! I'll be watching for your review. Happy Reading!
