A couple of my health problems are chronic migraines (I have one daily) and light sensitivity which have prevented me from working for the past couple years. At first I watched a lot of television to bide my time, but the same shows all of the time just didn't cut it anymore. So I started reading more, especially over the past year. I tend to read a lot on my Nook or Kindle where I have the settings to where it is easier on my eyes and I can download a lot of classics for free. I tend to read a lot of classics that are in the public domain, so if I can't download them for free from Amazon or Barnes & Noble, I'll download them from Project Gutenberg or ManyBooks and use calibre (computer software) to load them onto either my Nook or Kindle.
I like to read classics of almost any type (including children's books, but not so much romance), mysteries, thrillers, science fiction, fantasy and non-fiction.
My hobbies now other than reading is computers and I'm a music collector (vinyl, cassettes and compact discs).

I've only read classics back in high school (which the ones that was required to read were boring) and now finding more classics that are more enjoyable to read.

Forced reading is one of my pet peeves at the moment. Surround youngsters with enough quality reading material and give them the free choice and they will find classics they love, force them to read something they hate and they will hate classics (and often reading as a whole) for a lifetime!
Welcome to the group. :)

Hello Burgendy. I am excited to be here too. We will be reading Othello in June, so that's what is exciting me. I hope you enjoy your time here :-)

That sounds like a wonderful mix of old and modern classics. Lucky her, I hope she enjoys them both! I really need to read more books my Toni Morrison.

She loves both of the books and I brought her some more Jane Austin books. I love reading books from Toni Morrison. My favorite book from her is Beloved

Hi Tim, I am just up the highway in Madison WI and my in-laws are in Mount Morris, IL so we are often passing through Rockford. i'm glad to know that your health challenges don't stop you from reading. I also read classics through the Megareader app on my tablet which includes Project Gutenberg & other free classics. I wondered if you ever listen to audiobooks when your eyes or headaches bother you. There are some great recordings of classics available through libraries as well as through Amazon/Kindle/Audible including free ones.

Some of my favorite classic novels in random order areRebecca Jane Eyre East of Eden Middlemarchand The Woman in White. (among others, that was extremely difficult)
Thank you for having me.
