Clint (clintphoenix) Hello, I'm Clint. I'm an American living in Ukraine. I recently joined goodreads. I like to write fiction, and so I decided to read as many books as I reasonably can to get some influence and perspective.
I plan to read new and old books, although English copies of the classics are easier to come by where I live. I'm looking for discussions on books to see what is generally good to read, so I'll be picking and choosing some books listed from this group from time to time (as long as I can find them!).

Melindam Hello All You lovely Group Members out there!
I am Melinda from Hungary & a confirmed book adict.
I love classic fiction (besides fantasy, golden age detective stories, ya & children's books) & l used to read a lot of them at Uni for my English literature studies. But so many classics, too little time - I keep discovering books/authors I have not read (or gave up on) before and there is also the re-reading of my favourite classic stories.
Among my favourite authors are Jane Austen, Terry Pratchett, Barbara Pym & Jasper Fforde. Looking forward to great book discussions with you.

Lauren Markish Koratich (lauren_markish) | 2 comments Hello hello! I'm Lauren, a 21-year-old English major from Southwestern Pennsylvania. I've been a Goodreads member since 2014, but I have only just discovered the world of groups! As a current college student, I'm always being assigned new books to read. However, I'm always looking to expand my experience with the classics! Some of my favorite classics are The Scarlet Letter, Lord of the Flies, Catcher in the Rye, Paradise Lost, and Macbeth. Also, they may not be classics (yet), but I'm also a big fan of Harry Potter. I look forward to having some guidance when it comes to choosing a classic book to read!

Markus Hi, Classics! I am Markus, born in Austria, living in retirement, in Southern France. Other than classic books, I also like classic cars, from the fiftys, i.e. my younger years. I spend time working in our olive grove and vineyard. But I take time for reading. You will see on my bookshelves, my favorites in ancient Greece and ancient Rome, but also French, English, and German Classics.
I look forward to exchanges in this group.

Nick Hi! I'm Nick from Australia. I'm a librarian, and generally have some sort of classic on the go. At the moment, I am reading Marquez's "One hundred years of solitude" and "Stoner" by John Williams. (This should be a classic, but does not seem to have that status with some.) Look forward to seeing what others are reading, and reading some classics I had not thought to look at.

Markus Hi Nick, you are in some good reading, I loved Stoner, if he was on GR I would invite him as a friend, he is just a lovable character, the book is from 1965, may not be a classic, but may become one.

As for "Stoner" a wonderful lovable character, unforgettable.
You have some good reading ahead of you.

Hi, I'm Fabrizio!
I live in Germany, but I am originally from Italy.
Besides reading, I love movies... especially classics from the 20s and 30s.
Books have enriched my life in so many ways, that I would have a difficult time to find a real favorite, but I generally like fiction of beginning 20th century like Dostoyevskiy, Pirandello, Kafka, etc.

I look forward to discover even more in this group!

message 4242: by Lars Martin (new)

Lars Martin (lmborlaug) | 23 comments Hi everyone.
My name is Lars. I'm a reading addict.
(Sorry for the bad joke).

I'm actually not addicted to reading. Not at all. I can go weeks without picking up a book. Months even.

This readers block usually happens during spring time. Maybe even in the summer. When the soft breeze caresses the treetops of my garden and the white leaves from the flowers dance in the bright sunlight, I just can't seem to pick up a book - any book.

When the tarmac reflects the sun's heat rays in short, transparent waves, I hear a soft, dull rumbling from the storage room. It's a dull shiver like the sound of a death cramp from a cod on a small boat's deck. It calls to me. It lures me. It demands my attention... then I spend hours on my bike. Either one of them.

Or when the wind grows stronger and the rustling of the leaves becomes menacing and the grass starts its muted hum. That's when I find my running shoes.

But when all this does not apply, I read. I read on the bus. I read on the couch. And when the rain hammers on the roof and splashes the window. I lay in bed - reading.

I read every genre. I read contemporary, fantasy, science fiction, thrillers, mysteries, but somehow I always find my way back to the classics.

Cheryl Jansen (cheryldy36) | 3 comments Hello everyone! I have just reclaimed my desire and love of reading for pleasure after spending 3 1/2 years in grad school. I am excited to have the leisure to read any and everything under the sun. I thought reading the classics would be a nice place to start as I missed out on it and semi-avoided it in my younger years. Looking forward to traveling all around the world with you all through the window of good storytelling.
