Please Introduce Yourself

I plan to read new and old books, although English copies of the classics are easier to come by where I live. I'm looking for discussions on books to see what is generally good to read, so I'll be picking and choosing some books listed from this group from time to time (as long as I can find them!).

Hi and welcome Clint to Goodreads and our group! I'm sure the group will be able to help you pick and choose classical books to read. We have an array of books to read each month and the discussions with group members are really good so jump in and enjoy! Happy reading! :)

I am Melinda from Hungary & a confirmed book adict.
I love classic fiction (besides fantasy, golden age detective stories, ya & children's books) & l used to read a lot of them at Uni for my English literature studies. But so many classics, too little time - I keep discovering books/authors I have not read (or gave up on) before and there is also the re-reading of my favourite classic stories.
Among my favourite authors are Jane Austen, Terry Pratchett, Barbara Pym & Jasper Fforde. Looking forward to great book discussions with you.

"One hundred years of solitude" is a marvelous novel, an epical saga, poetic and full of surprises all the way, you will enjoy this.
As for "Stoner" a wonderful lovable character, unforgettable.
You have some good reading ahead of you.
Hi, I'm Fabrizio!
I live in Germany, but I am originally from Italy.
Besides reading, I love movies... especially classics from the 20s and 30s.
Books have enriched my life in so many ways, that I would have a difficult time to find a real favorite, but I generally like fiction of beginning 20th century like Dostoyevskiy, Pirandello, Kafka, etc.
I look forward to discover even more in this group!

Hi and welcome Julie! This is definitely the group to encourage reading of the classics! I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself here! Happy reading! :)

My name is Lars. I'm a reading addict.
(Sorry for the bad joke).
I'm actually not addicted to reading. Not at all. I can go weeks without picking up a book. Months even.
This readers block usually happens during spring time. Maybe even in the summer. When the soft breeze caresses the treetops of my garden and the white leaves from the flowers dance in the bright sunlight, I just can't seem to pick up a book - any book.
When the tarmac reflects the sun's heat rays in short, transparent waves, I hear a soft, dull rumbling from the storage room. It's a dull shiver like the sound of a death cramp from a cod on a small boat's deck. It calls to me. It lures me. It demands my attention... then I spend hours on my bike. Either one of them.
Or when the wind grows stronger and the rustling of the leaves becomes menacing and the grass starts its muted hum. That's when I find my running shoes.
But when all this does not apply, I read. I read on the bus. I read on the couch. And when the rain hammers on the roof and splashes the window. I lay in bed - reading.
I read every genre. I read contemporary, fantasy, science fiction, thrillers, mysteries, but somehow I always find my way back to the classics.
