Please Introduce Yourself
HI there to Stephanie & Christine. Glad to have you both here. Looking forward to reading your comments.

I have always enjoyed stories of all types from a variety of media, with classic novels and poetry being no exception. Recently I have been trying to explore more of the classics; while engaged in this endeavor I stumbled upon this group, figured it would be a good fit, and applied. Exploring something is more fun when you have nakama/colleagues to interact and discuss with, ne?
I am looking forward to expanding my horizons, communicating with other group members and receiving suggestions for classics from both within and without my native culture. Nice to meet you all. :)

My name is kelly, i'm 21 springs young gheghe =3
I'm from holland, and i obviously i love books, and the magic of words!
I joined this group because i'd like to join buddy reads in the future, and ofcourse 'cause of my love for the classics.
Nice meeting you all.
Welcome Kelly! Glad to have you here in our international group! Always nice to have more book lovers around.

I'm glad to be here, can't wait to get involved in this little community of book lovers !

I do love the international flavor of this group. It's a big plus, IMO!

Welcome Staci! And feel free to add your list to our classic lists thread!

I am a big book nut and read far too much. Since I study English, Classic Literature is at the forefront of our studies, so I do love to read them especially. I also like my Young Adult fiction heavily. I am hoping to study Medicine at university if I can achieve the correct grade requirements.
Favourite Novels recently that I have read:
The Book Thief
To Kill a Mockingbird
Tristessa
The Virgin Suicides
Nice to meet you all and please feel free to add me to allow me to interact with you all. :D

Good luck on your exams!!!! And, which university? (My daughter almost went to Edinburgh (5-yr program), but ended up at UCD (4-yr program) instead (vet, tho, not med). Grad entry, rather than school leavers.

Imperial College London is where I got an offer :)

Speaking of MOOCs, you might check out Futurelearn (https://www.futurelearn.com), Coursera (https://www.coursera.org/) and Edx (https://www.edx.org/). They are free MOOC (Massive Open Online Course, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massive_...) websites which are nifty for both self learning and preparing for further schooling alike. I really wish they had had these things back when I was younger...anyways, enjoy. :)
EDIT: Ah Imperial College London, nice. I don't know much about that school, but from the website it looks like a good one.

Alan, I have never been to Scotland, but my family has always had Scottish Terriers and I have met many Scots because of my little pets. Every one was brilliant and kind.
MK, I will try to type up my list and post them. One is a basic American Lit list, but the other is a list of books every college educated person should know...or so it claims. ;)

Very cool! Thx, Staci :). I think you meant to direct that to Kathy (not sure), but, either way, I'll certainly enjoy the resource too! Also, welcome!! (Did I say welcome? :D )
And welcome to Matthew :). Hello!
Imperial College London, nice, Alan! I'd imagine London would be a fabulous city to be a student in!
Welcome Alan & Matthew! We are always glad to have more book lovers here with the group.
Katelyn, I love free online courses. Working on a couple of them through Coursera right now. And always have several more on my watchlists. Lots of fun and only as much stress as you put on yourself.

Speaking of Jane Austen, did anybody else get fooled by the Mirth and Mischief thing?

I'm 20 and I'm from Sydney Australia, I'm a university student studying to become a high school teacher in the field of History and English. (Can't wait to graduate!)
My reading interests vary so much- one day I might read a YA book, the next a nonfiction book. I just honestly love to read.
The classics appeal to me because a lot of them are reflections of everyday lives in the times thy were written and yet they make it feel magical and an adventure. The classics feel like they being my love of History together with my love of reading and give me this wonderful tale.
Thank you for letting me join!

I currently moderate a Time Travel book club here on GoodReads and belong to an in-person non-fiction science book club. So, as you can guess, quite a lot of my reading is science fiction and science non-fiction. But I recently fell in love with Thomas Hardy and am challenging myself to read through his works chronologically in the next couple of years. I also want to work on understanding Russian history a little better through a chronological reading of some Russian classics. So that's where this book club may come in handy if my reading coincides a bit. Although, I have a feeling it's going to expand my to-be-read list in far more directions than I intended.
I really have far too little time to meet all my reading goals as quickly as I'd like since I have busy 3-year-old. I really only have 1 or 2 hours a night to read to myself. But read I must. And read I shall.

I think I should pretty much just reread all the ones that were assigned to me as a student, b/c somehow those class assigned books managed to strangle the stories and make them all (needlessly) unpleasant. I'm enjoying them so much more now, reading them on my own, then I ever did when there were analyzed and picked to death, in a class-room of glassy-eyed-bored-to-death teenagers! :p
And hello and welcome to Amy (nice to 'see' you here!), too :).

Hi I'm Leigh from the UK, I am currently reading Robinson Crusoe and have just finished Brave New World. I read in fleeting moments as I have a busy job and family life and am writing my third book!
Thanks
Thanks

And, I'd like to extend a particular welcome to all of our new members to join the Scavenger Hunt challenge - or any of the challenges - as well! Or just to contribute two new items to the hunt, if you'd rather not collect. Either way, you're all most welcome.

I'm Todd. I am 35 and living in a big old house in Pittsburgh that I am slowly filling with books. I have a BA in Literature and a Master's in Higher and Post-Secondary Education. Starting last November I began reading all of the "must read before death" books I've had on my shelves. So far I have managed Anna Karenina, Middlemarch, One Hundred Years of Solitude, Madame Bovary, Return of the Native and hope to begin The Brothers Karamazov soon.
I look forward to spirited conversation with all of you!
Cheers!!

Todd, wow, you don't mess around. You dove right into some huge/tough ones!
We are just starting War & Peace, I hope you both join us!

Please, help me where can I sell my classic novel collection. Since I moved to a new residence I have to reduce numbers of collection since I don't have space for them in my place.
All the books' condition are very good.
Thank you.
Welcome to all of our newest members. So glad that you could join us. I haven't had much time on the computer lately, but I am glad to have you all here. Can't wait to read your comments.

We are happy to have you!
Sorry, Wishnu, I have no idea on selling.

I love just about all classic novels (especially British ones) as well as philosophy, essays, short stories, and memoirs. My guilty pleasures are fantasy (Tolkien, George R.R. Martin) and murder mysteries (Agatha Christie). My 17-year-old daughter loves the classics, too; I am trying to get her to join this group! Looking forward to reading and talking.

Welcome Katrina & anyone else that I haven't welcomed yet. I've gotten a bit behind in my welcoming new members as I've been traveling with limited internet time. (Sneaking in a bit tonight at the hotel)
So fun to see so many new bibliophiles joining the group. I look forward to all the new faces in our discussions.
Nominations are still open for June reads, let us know what you would like to read.

I like reading many different genres, but especially historical fiction, speculative fiction, and nonfiction. I am trying to work on reading more classic literature, so that's how I found this group. Looking forward to participating!
