Saad K (reader_s) | 14 comments Hello everyone, I am Saad, male, from London, I took a break from fiction but when the new kindle arrived I simply couldn't resist diving into an old classic. My lack of an imagination often leaves me adrift from the passsages being described in works of fiction, but I am finding the dictionary and images on internet of green pastures to assist.

I have cheated and started November's Thomas Hardy's - Far From the Madding Crowd early. Just met the farmer, and the impression casting (albeit of vanity) lady in carriage. Look forward to reading along with others.

As you know he wrote a lot of short stories. I usually read them in dutch (on paper), however most, if not all, his stories can be found online in English.

One of my favourite stories is 'the Wife'

I also love 'Ward no.6'

However, since im recommending these stories on a website, and since reading from a screen can be tiring, maybe it's best to start with a very short one. It's called 'the Bet' http://www.eldritchpress.org/ac/jr/15...

zed (4triplezed) Hi all. 57 year old male with limited classics reading. Always a history buff first, that will never change, but had decided 4 or 5 years back that as the clock was ticking down I had better get on a read a classic or 2 each year. I notice with a quick look at the group that I have in fact read a few over the years so will explore and hopefully contribute as time allows.

Am into Don Quixote at present and am enjoying it immensely. Next year I will look to join a group read. That seems to keep me focused.

message 3383: by jonah (new)

jonah Welcome, 4ZZZ! I agree that working with a group read keeps me focused, as it allows me to read a broader range of books in a short time without getting distracted. I hope you enjoy this book group! :)

Pink | 5491 comments Welcome 4ZZZ, I'm pleased you've joined us for some more classics! I read Don Quixote this year and enjoyed it a lot more than I expected to. I think a couple of other members are currently reading it too, or plan to tackle it in the next few months! Hi Pink. Can you direct me to the thread please? I am having difficulty finding it. Thanks.

message 3389: by Pink (new)

Pink | 5491 comments Yes sure, here's a link to the discussion threads for Don Quixote https://www.goodreads.com/group/comme...

A lot of previous group discussions get buried in the folders, but if you want to find something specific you can use the search bar at the top right hand side of the page. You can look for anything this way and select whether to filter by the 'entire post' which will find every single mention by the group or by 'topic' which will only select discussion threads with the relevant name.

I hope this helps :)

Charlotte | 2 comments Hi, I'm Charlotte. Hailee told me about this group and so I followed her here.
I have varied interests and when it comes to reading I'll read anything. I'm interested in history and psychology (should be helpful in discussing classics).

I'm looking forward to reading and re-reading more classics and like others have said, a group read helps to keep me on track. I've had a look at November's group reads and am looking forward to them.

There are so many books out there to be read that it's difficult to go back and discover what came before sometimes, hopefully this group will remedy that.
I look forward to discovering classic stories with you and contributing to discussion when I can.
