Deidra | 1 comments Hello everyone! My name is Deidra. Lifelong reader whether it was the Babysitter's Club books as a little girl, Jane Eyre as a teen, or Blood Meridian as an adult. Excited to be part of this group because I love reading the classics, and of course would like to absorb classics that I've missed so far in life. My favorite books would be The Grapes of Wrath and As I Lay Dying, but I also love Victorian literature and Russian literature classics.

I love seeing new places, cooking, gardening, hiking, being outside, drawing/painting and sometimes binge-watching Netflix.
I'm excited to be part of the club. Thanks for having me!

Andrew wrote: "Over the last year or so I have read all of Virginia Woolf's novels and short stories and I am now about to start reading her essays. Other classic writers I have been reading recently include George Orwell, Aldous Huxley and Evelyn Waugh...."

These are some of my favourite authors as well, I really should read some more of their work, as I have a stack more to get through from my shelves. There's just never enough time for everything I want to read...

message 2976: by Darren (new)

Darren (dazburns) | 2169 comments Andrew - Welcome! :o)
I just did a "Compare Books" with you and got 76% (which is pretty high) - was particularly impressed to see that the most obscure book we have in common is Moorcock's The Knight of the Swords which is one of my all-time faves!

message 2977: by Pink (new)

Pink | 5491 comments Andrew, that is always my problem. I stopped buying books a couple of years ago, determined to read everything on my shelves, but I rejoined the library at the same time and so I have a constant stream of 'new books' to read every month. This year I've been trying to get through some bigger classics that I've been putting off for years, but there's always more things that I want to read.

message 2978: by Nina (new)

Nina Ive | 63 comments Hi everyone, I'm Nina. I live in Wellington New Zealand.

My favourite story my parents tell me from my childhood is that when I was a toddler, I was allowed 50c every week to choose either a bag of lollies or a golden book. Apparently even from that young age I would always choose the book. Even now, I'm so glad my children understand this important fact about me. Recently I called one of my 4yr olds a milk monster as he loves to drink a lot of milk and he in return called me a "book monster" - this made me insanely happy.

I'm really happy to find goodreads. I wish I had more time to read but the kids take up all my non-work time. But I'll follow this group and hopefully try and match up with some of the reading you are doing because I love the discussion.

message 2981: by Brina (new)

Brina Welcome Nina to goodreads and this group. I know it's tough making time for yourself to read when your kids are little. I didn't really read much for 8 years other than an occasional mystery or reread. At the time it is frustrating to not read but they are only young once so enjoy your little one. Hope to see you here in this group when you are able to enjoy reading.

message 2983: by Pink (new)

Pink | 5491 comments Welcome to the group Nina, I think you'll find a few like minded book monsters here :) Just join in with whatever you have time for, we all go through periods where we have more time to read than others, but it should always be a pleasure and not a chore. I didn't read that much when my children were younger, apart from stories we read together.

I'm Jesse, and I live in Atlanta, Georgia. I was a horrible English/Literature student growing up, and am now playing catch-up. I haven't found much success in finding like minded folks, but am thankful for finding this site/app and this group - I need a bit of a support group if you will. I'm currently wrapping up Don Quixote (which has been a blast), and am looking forward to getting started with the group during the September cycle!
