Thank you! Seems so obvious now that it's pointed out but I never noticed it.

Welcome to the group Lori, I'm glad you've joined us :)

Laurie | 1895 comments Sue, I've read Travels with Charley and definitely enjoyed it. But I found out afterwards that his actual trip didn't happen just as the book relates. For instance, his wife joined him on part of the trip and they stayed in nice hotels. That doesn't make it into the book. I still think it is worth reading for the observations he makes.

Lori (loriwark) Sue, I've read Travels With Charlie. The relationship between Steinbeck and Charlie is very special. If you're a dog lover the book will really hit home.

Katherine Johnston (katherinejohnstonbooks) | 5 comments Hi, I am Katherine, an avid reader turned writer to join the Great Conversation, through books, essays and blogs. Classics have so much to teach about the depths of the human condition, and they are usually a lot of fun!

For years I was so intimidated by War and Peace, until I read it, and discovered it was nothing more than a Russian soap-opera, a brilliant and delightful soap opera, with a hefty side order of philosophy.

Jane Austen's works never get old to re-read, nor does Jules Verne. Although I am trying to read through classics I have not had a chance to read yet, such as Agnes Grey, which was interesting, but in the sheer scope of literary quality the writing didn't compare anywhere near Jane Eyre.

Currently I am reading Mary Barton by Elizabeth Gaskell, who is one of my favorite classic authors, although she is usually very under rated, being over shadowed by the Brontës.

Glad to have found this group. Looking forward to reading others perspectives on classic literature! :)

Brina Welcome Katherine. I mainly read American classics but you mention an eclectic list of books. Glad you joined and looking forward to the discussions.

Antonietta (anto5) | 9 comments Hi, I am Anto from bella Italia - I am a passionate reader - obviously - mostly of romance novels (old and new) and of course ... of the classics. I read the latter to continue challenging myself - and yeah, the group seemed just perfect for that! =)
I studied German, English & Italian Literature & Linquistics and read in all three languages. Write ... not so much. So, if you find spelling and grammar mistakes in my posts - soooorry, I'm trying! =).

In real life I am a digital marketer & web product manager currently living in beautiful Switzerland. I am glad to return to my book friends after a tough day at work and love to read my weekends away. Since I startet "Goodreading" a couple of years ago it quickly became my favorite online community. I am really glad to join you here. I'll start my first classics challenge with Dostoiewski's The Brothers Karamazov this month. So, gotta go! The Karamazovs are calling ;)! Happy reading to you all! SALUTI

Grace B (pianograce15) | 0 comments Hello everyone!

My name is Grace. I'm a music student studying piano performance in the Midwest. I spend most of my time practicing, but when I'm not practicing I love to read. I've loved reading since I was little and have begun reading a lot of classics over the past couple years. This is the first group I've joined on goodreads so I'm excited to get started!

I enjoy almost all types of books, although I can be picky with sci-fi. I'm currently reading To Kill A Mockingbird, and I have too many favorites to count.

When I'm not reading (or practicing) I love Netflix, food, concerts, yoga, and trying new things.

Looking forward to getting to know this group!

message 2674: by Brina (new)

Brina Welcome Grace. I'm also in the Midwest- where are you studying? So glad you joined, we just read To Kill a Mockingbird in the group last month so feel free to join in the discussions. Enjoy your reading here.

Hi Grace and welcome! It's a wonderful first group to join on Goodreads! Sci-fi isn't exactly my favorite either but this group is so amazing that it's actually motivated me to read it and some I've actually enjoyed! :). I know you'll enjoy yourself here! Happy reading! And practice, practice, practice!!! :)

I'm single (not lonely) I don't have any kids - only a cat (her name is willow, 3yrs old and sassy) I'm in my first year of work as a banker fresh outta university and loving the fact I can look forward to fortnights.

I love Classics and it is my ultimate life goal to say I have read half of the books on any must read classics list there is. Can't wait to take part in the group discussions here and I so glad I found this group.

Thank you. I am in charge of putting on a camp for girls ages 12-18. We had over 300 girls and then adult leaders added to the numbers. It was good.

Kristine Gift Hi all! My name is Kristine, and I'm a(n almost graduated!) MA student in New Jersey, finishing my thesis this summer in Middle Eastern history. Now that I'm out of the school year grind, I'm rediscovering my love for leisure reading, and I had to join the group after seeing that The Master and Margarita was a June pick! I've been meaning to read M&M for years and years, but assumed it'd be too difficult (but joy of joys, it isn't!), so I'm excited to see what other classes are picked for the rest of the year!
