Brina Welcome Elizabeth. I couldn't agree more about your view of classics. I am rereading the books I read for school in this group and am enjoying them a lot. Hope you love this group.

message 2465: by Alex (new)

Alex | 20 comments For years now, I've been reading the classics that I had to read in school and didn't. The multiverse may or may not exist, but classic books will do until we find out.

Pink | 5491 comments Welcome Elizabeth, I completely agree about having to read and hating classics at school. It took me years to get into reading them again. I hope you find some more classics to enjoy with us :)

message 2467: by Catherine (new)

Catherine H Hello! I'm Catherine. I'm in Austin, though from the Pacific NW originally. In my mid-30s, and been a classics reader my whole life I think. My favorite book is Jane Eyre and I re-read it every year or so. I also love mystery stories, especially the Sherlock Holmes canon, and old school sci fi and fantasy. I'm not sure what all counts as "classic" but it looks like y'all discuss a wide range of books, which is awesome!

message 2469: by Brina (new)

Brina Welcome Catherine. We do read a range of classics in this group so you've come to the right place. Per the monitors a classic can be any highly regarded book published until 1999. I also like mysteries although I prefer Hercule Poirot to Sherlock Holmes :)

Michael (speebs) | 4 comments Hey All.

My name's Michael. I'm 22 and I love reading the Classics everything about them just intrigues my curiosity, and I was told by a few professors that one should read the classics first to open up ones own mind. Don't get me wrong. I love alot of modern books. but I just haven't ever even tried getting into the classics until a few months ago and so far I must say that I am highly impressed. Love the writing, and it's just so neat how creative the people were way back then to have come up with such amazing stories!

Sincerely. Michael E. Blakely

Emerson | 282 comments Hello Michael, welcome, love your "we the north" tag!
I agree, nothing has opened my mind as some classics. Classics have such wonderful stories, humor and peculiar ways to get to where they're aiming, and the writing always brings me somewhere else!

Pink | 5491 comments Welcome Michael, I'm glad you've got into reading classics, there are so many greats to choose from. They're now my main source of reading, as there's a lot to get through, but I like to mix it up with some newer fiction too. I hope you find something to join us with :)

Michael (speebs) | 4 comments I know this is a Thread for Introductions.. But I figure I could probably ask a question relating to our group's genre. Has anyone read the "I - Robot series" by Isaac Asimov? If so. How are they and are they worth the read?

Hannah Hello all! I'm Hannah, and I've always had a particular interest in classic literature. I'm excited to be able to discuss with other people who understand my love of old books. I think this group will be extremely helpful since aimlessly searching for my next book to read usually ends in frustration.

I prefer the earlier film version "The Omega Man" with Charlton Heston - still has plot differences, but very similar "feel" to the book
