Please Introduce Yourself

Hello and welcome Eowyn! We're glad you've joined our group! Enjoy yourself here and happy reading!

Welcome to the group Eowyn and Shelbey. We are excited to have both of you in the group. Feel free to lurk or join right in. This is a friendly group.

Welcome Shelbey, glad you've joined too. Madame Bovary is a great book, though it took me some time to fall in love with it. As Kathy says, feel free to lurk or join in with whatever suits you. We have plenty going on, whether you like group reads, challenges, or just a friendly chat :)
Welcome to the group guys! This book club is a special one - everyone's so nice, I joined this year too.
Shelbey, I loved Crime and Punishment! It's such a great book! :)

Hi Shelby, welcome! Happy reading!

I'm reading Sense and Sensibility right now for Women's History Month. I read Their Eyes Were Watching God last month for Black History Month/Valentine's Day. IDK if I'll continue with the themes, but it helps keep me motivated. I'm excited to join this group because I don't always have a way to engage with people of similar literary interest.

I'm Lorena, from Albania and I enjoy reading classics and other genres as well, like sci-fi, mystery, philosophy etc.

Hi and welcome Lorena! Glad you've decided to join us again! I look forward to discussing books with you! Happy reading!

Tytti that's interesting! I am looking forward to reading your review :)
To be honest, I've read only one novel by Kadare.

If you love classics and want to share your views on some of your favorite reads this is definitely the place to be.
Good to have you in the group.

Wow, which places did you visit in Albania? Do you have any particular favorite town, or place?

I lived in Tirana but traveled all over the country. Durres, Vlore, Shkoder, Kruje, Elbasan, Fier and went into Kosovo a couple times.

Well I am from Shkoder, and I lived in Tirana for half a year. I visited other cities too, and Kosovo as well, but I like only my hometown and Tirana a little bit.

You can find it here https://www.goodreads.com/review/show..., though it's probably more about my thoughts and less about the book itself but...

Hi and welcome Vanessa! Glad your friend sent you the link to join our group and what perfect timing! Enjoy and happy reading!

Thanks! I'm not very far into the book but loving it already. Strong contender for my favourite read of the year so far, which until now would be Lady Chatterley's Lover
Vanessa wrote: "Hi Everyone, a friend sent me a link to this group as I love my classics, and as it happens I am reading Middlemarch right now and should finish just in time for the discussion :)"
We are looking forward to discussing Middlemarch with you. Welcome to the group.
We are looking forward to discussing Middlemarch with you. Welcome to the group.

My name is Larissa. I live in beautiful Lake Tahoe. I have had a Good Reads account for a while now, but my boyfriend bought me a Kindle Paper White. I want to use Good Reads to help me connect with other book lovers and to find new books to read.
My reading preferences are all over the place. I love Dean Koontz and Stephen King, but I also have an obsession with Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, Divergent and the like.
I am a student at the Lake Tahoe Community College and I am just finishing my first literature class since high school (which was six years ago). The class focused on literature from the Renaissance to the middle of the sixteenth century. We read things such as: East Indian poetry after Islam from authors like Kabir and Mirabai, Montaigne's essays, Don Quixote, the Heptameron, Jonathan Swift, Moliere, and so many more works of great literature.
I really want to broaden my reading horizons and connect to the classics so I can understand the writing that is being published today.

I enjoy the classics, thriller/horror, and sci-fi/fantasy (particularly world building). Right now I'm working through Charles Dickens and Stephen King and liking them both a lot.
Some of my favorites are Crime and Punishment, Catch-22, and The Catcher in the Rye. My username comes from The Catcher in the Rye and the profile picture from Catch-22.
Dostoyevsky's The Idiot is great so I hope you guys enjoy that next month!
There's always tons of good classics (usually even free on the Kindle) but it's hard to choose what to read next so I'm hoping this group will help me with that. I look forward to participating in the nominations, voting, and discussions.

Hey fellow Texan, I too was reading the classics in no particular order, but am glad I found this site and have progressed through more than I did last year! We have some great discussion here.

Welcome to the family. If you want to connect to the classics and get some really good insight on the good, bad and indifferent then this is the place to be. We have a lot of good people here and some great discussions regarding every genre imaginable.
Talk to you soon. Enjoy
Welcome to all our new members, and a hello to Larissa. I went to Lake Tahoe Community College back when the campus was an old motel and the rooms were converted to classrooms. I think I graduated in 1982. They had just bought land for a new campus. I've never been back to see it.

Welcome to all of our newest members. I've been out of town for a free days and am delighted to come back to many new book friends here in the group. Happy Reading all.

Welcome to the group.
Shingo .... Philip K. Dick is an amazing writer, I love his short stories, very unusual and imaginative. At the moment I am working on a few books, but among them I have been reading The Idiot by Dostoyevsky.
Dean ... The Invisible Man is a good book, but its a little on the slow side. If you don't like, then you should put it down and read something else that holds your interest, IMHO, I think War of the Worlds is one of H.G. Wells best novels
I would recommend The Martian by Andy Weir, the book will hook you from the first paragraph.

I have a particular love of classics and am now reading all the books I should have read, have always wanted to read or that have been recommended to me, this is the best thing I have done in years.
I love this site and hope to become more active in the group.

Hi Richard! Welcome to the group,
I had the same problem few years ago when I was so active in social networks for more than a year and forgot about the books. Hope you will complete the challenge. I also loved Rebecca and would like to suggest to you classics that I loved.
Happy reading :)

Welcome to our group, Richard.
While I never stopped reading, I have certainly allowed the internet to hijack some of my reading time. For example I spend too much time on Goodreads seeing what everyone else is reading. It's great that you are returning to books, and you can't go wrong with classics. Rebecca is wonderful, and I am sure you will find many others just as great. Enjoy your personal challenge!!

Hello and welcome Shingo! This is the place for your special diet of the classics :)! Look forward to reading The Idiot with you! Enjoy!

Hi Dean and welcome to Goodreads and the Catching Up on the Classics! I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself on the Goodreads site and in particular, our group. Look forward to discussing books with you! Happy reading!

Welcome Richard! Congratulations on your personal challenge of reading 52 books this year! Rebecca is one of my favorites too!

"The Book of Great Books: A Guide to 100 World Classics" Hardcover – April, 2001
by W. John Campbell
I average 55 books a year over all of which includes at least one classic. Can you imagine this research has taken over 25 years. I don't know what I'm going to do with all this book knowledge, but going back to school to do graduate work is being considered. I must admit when I graduated from college computers were just coming on in the world so I've never picked up on the niceties of the technology. I'm just a reader not a bibliophile. I enjoyed reading many posts on many different subjects and I hope to participate in the group reads. I especially enjoy the comments on books I've read. So here's to a great year of reading for all of us.

Hi Gary and welcome! Glad you've introduced yourself to the group! Jump in and participate in any or all group reads and in the discussions as well! Happy reading and enjoy!

I'm glad you've all decided to join our group, whether you're a fan of classics, or trying to get into them and whether you're new to GR or have been here for years. This is a relaxed and friendly group and although we're all here for classics, we still have quite diverse reading tastes, which is great for discussing and discovering new books!
I hope to chat with you more soon and get to know you all :)
