Rebekah Wolfson Hey Paula, welcome!

I have a goal of finishing 50 books this year. Since I'm a slow reader (and life gets busy for me), I plan on listening to audiobooks on my commute to/from work to try and keep me on schedule.

J.D. Carabella (jdcarabella) | 1 comments I also just stumbled upon this group via a friend's post in their recent activity. I love the classics, from Homer, Dante, and Marlowe to Vonnegut (seeing Slaughterhouse as your book of the month is what sold me!), Sturgeon and everything from the golden age of Sci-Fi.
I absolutely love history and culture and reading books from that time and place is a fantastic way to see inside the times.

Martha (marthas48) I'm so glad you like Wilkie, Bob. He's a joy to read.

Won't be on much today. Heading to a VA facility 2 hrs from home. Hoping to get help with hearing aids for Jerry. This morning I'm especially glad he is able to drive so I can read. LOL

Hope everyone has a great day!

Bat-Cat | 986 comments I am delighted and amazed by how many new members have joined this group just in the last few weeks. I particularly like the diversity with, what appears to me to be, most of the world represented. I have always loved the different perspectives of people from backgrounds and cultures other than my own and look forward to seeing/hearing/experiencing those differences through discussions of the classics that we are/will be reading.

Welcome all!!!

I agree! Of all the groups that I belong to, I think this one has the most international participation.

Welcome MKay!

And the February reads are posted on our homepage:

We will be starting A Farewell to Arms, The Stranger, and The Diary of a Young Girl.

We will also still be reading Middlemarch.

Hope you can join in one or more of the reads.

Hi and welcome MKay to Goodreads and to our group! You'll find that there are a lot of us (myself included!) in this group that didn't read many classics in school. This is the prefect group to rectify that! So sit back and enjoy! Happy reading!

Welcome John! I agree with Kathy wholeheartedly that retirement is a great place to be for reading! I couldn't have said it better myself!

I know the feeling John of missing out on some real classics as a youth! But, "it's never to late" to start reading them! So enjoy!

Harith | 1 comments Hello! I'm Harith,

I'm 21, and an undergraduate student in mechanical engineering. I'm from India and I would like to travel the world someday. I like to read historical fiction, literary fiction, and a whole lot of classics. I've actually not read many classics, just a few when I was in school (they might have been abridged, I don't remember). I really want to, you know, 'catch up on classics' but I had trouble starting. That's why I looked up and joined this group, so that hopefully I can start reading some.

Ciera, good luck with Les Mis, are you still reading it? I've been halfway through for a couple of years! Really need to pick it back up as I was enjoying it before I took a break.

Sara, welcome to the group and goodreads, I hope you enjoy both!

Hope to chat to you all some more!
