Hi and welcome Martha! Enjoy and happy reading!

I have a goal of finishing 50 books this year. Since I'm a slow reader (and life gets busy for me), I plan on listening to audiobooks on my commute to/from work to try and keep me on schedule.
Hello and Welcome to our newest members and a special welcome to Martha who is the reason I discovered Wilkie Collins. glad you are with us.

I absolutely love history and culture and reading books from that time and place is a fantastic way to see inside the times.

Hi J.D.! Glad you "stumbled" upon our group! I'm sure you'll find many diverse books here so enjoy and happy reading!

Won't be on much today. Heading to a VA facility 2 hrs from home. Hoping to get help with hearing aids for Jerry. This morning I'm especially glad he is able to drive so I can read. LOL
Hope everyone has a great day!
welcome paula , enjoy your reading

Well then that "women's century" challenge would be right in your alley.

Welcome all!!!

I agree! Of all the groups that I belong to, I think this one has the most international participation.

Welcome MKay!
And the February reads are posted on our homepage:
We will be starting A Farewell to Arms, The Stranger, and The Diary of a Young Girl.
We will also still be reading Middlemarch.
Hope you can join in one or more of the reads.

Hi and welcome MKay to Goodreads and to our group! You'll find that there are a lot of us (myself included!) in this group that didn't read many classics in school. This is the prefect group to rectify that! So sit back and enjoy! Happy reading!

Thanks!

I'm also interested in following national politics and keeping up with current events.

Welcome John! I agree with Kathy wholeheartedly that retirement is a great place to be for reading! I couldn't have said it better myself!
I know the feeling John of missing out on some real classics as a youth! But, "it's never to late" to start reading them! So enjoy!

Welcome Isabelle! You have come to a great group to make friends who will recommend books for you. Happy Reading.

Hi, John. I am not retired but started doing the same last year with classics. I was excited to find this site and sign up for some of the challenges. Welcome!

I'm 21, and an undergraduate student in mechanical engineering. I'm from India and I would like to travel the world someday. I like to read historical fiction, literary fiction, and a whole lot of classics. I've actually not read many classics, just a few when I was in school (they might have been abridged, I don't remember). I really want to, you know, 'catch up on classics' but I had trouble starting. That's why I looked up and joined this group, so that hopefully I can start reading some.

I just graduated college (an undergraduate degree in Creative Writing) and I'm looking for something to fill my time. After four years, I'm still not done wanting to read grea..."
Welcome Jennifer! This group will definetily "fill your time" with reading the classics and having great discussions with members, so sit back and enjoy!

Hello and welcome Harith! You'll "catch up" on your reading the classics here! Happy reading!

Hi and welcome Sue to Goodreads and to our group! I'm glad you found us and I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself here!

This is a great group and everyone is soooooo nice, friendly, supportive and encouraging. The discussions are thought provoking and stimulating and in my opinion you couldn't have chosen a more diverse, provocative and engaging group. Welcome and I look forward to connecting with all of you again throughout the discussions.
Welcome to Jennifer, Harith, & Sue! Glad you joined, and looking forward to discussing classics with you.

Welcome to the group Lizzy. This is a group of pretty eclectic tastes. You will fit right in.

Hi and welcome Lizzy! We're glad you've joined us! Happy reading!

Funny! Also, I actually have not read Huck Finn yet but it is high on my priority list! In fact I was going to read it before Les Miserables, but I knew if I did not start Les Mis when I had the passion to, then I would never get back to it. :)

Hi and welcome Sara to Goodreads and our group! I know you'll enjoy yourself! Happy reading!

Lizzy, you mention some of my favourite books there! Great choices :)
Ciera, good luck with Les Mis, are you still reading it? I've been halfway through for a couple of years! Really need to pick it back up as I was enjoying it before I took a break.
Sara, welcome to the group and goodreads, I hope you enjoy both!
Hope to chat to you all some more!

How fantastic...welcome all!
It is nice to see the group grow, I agree Susie. And this is a fun and active group -- so feel free to join in on any read or challenge with us.

I am also new to both the group and goodreads. Welcome.

How fantastic...welcome all!"
Yes. They are reading more and they're choosing to read more classics!
Again I can't seem to keep up with our fast passed growth, but I'm glad we have so many new members, Welcome!

I´ve just discovered this group and joined immediately.
I´m Turkish, but I was born in Germany and still live in Germany.
My goal for this year is to read 30 books. Some of these 30 should be classics. I would like to read some Russian classics this year.
Looking forword to interesting discussions,
Hilal

Welcome to the group, Hil Al, we hope some of your 30 you will read with us. Glad to have you here.

My name is Molly. I'm 21 one years old and working on my bachelor's at a liberal arts school in Virginia.
I love to read everything, but I have a soft spot for good science fiction, biographies, the Harry Potter series, and the classics.
On the side, I knit, dance, and blog.
