Welcome K. L. --- artists do sometimes seem to be tortured in some way. I think cold counts. And who knows, maybe in 50 years you can be the next classic.

Well, writers often gain fame long after they're dead, though I hope I'll get a few readers before then.

I love books more than anything, but I'm also interested in photography, psychology and history.
Few weeks ago I started "catching up" on classics so I'm really glad to have found you, guys :) It will be great share my thoughts with you.
Next position on my shelf is Animal Farm by George Orwell.

Welcome to the group, Kasia! So glad that you have decided to join us in catching up. It has been so long since I've read Animal Farm -- I hope you enjoy it. So many good books.

Hello everyone! I'm Arpit from India. I'm in my 2nd year of engineering (CSE). Previous year I found this Reading-gem and now it's more valuable than anything else in my life. Apart from reading I love sketching, music, movies, dramas (Pak-Dramas), writing (Diary) and my lovely friends (both fictional and real).
Classic is my comfort-zone in Books.

Thanks for the warm welcome Pink :)

Welcome to the group. So glad you joined us.
Welcome to the group. So glad you joined us.

The genres I read the most are philosophy, psychology, along with some classics and horror. When I'm not reading, I'm typically watching T.V. or writing.
I want to welcome our newest members and thank them for choosing our group to join. I would also like to remind our new members and our current members that starting with the new year our new challenges will be starting. If you would like to join in the fun please sign up, if you need help let us know.

I definitely love fiction and classics and started reading books only an year ago, before the last year i didn't know that books were such a wonderful thing!
I'm sorry for my bad english because I didn't study it a lot but i'll try to express myself in the simplest manner!

Oh and Jakob you're English looks perfect to me, but don't worry about it anyway. We have lots of international members here and I'm sure I make enough mistakes myself, even though it's my only language!

Some of the things that hinder my reading :-) I'm a newly-wed, no children yet, so learning to cook has me preoccupied. I work for a college access organization, i'm a struggling keyboardist, studying music theory, and I teach line-dancing in my spare time.
Michelle, welcome to the group. I love To Kill a Mockingbird -- I agree, a personal favorite. And I actually had the opportunity several years ago to listen to Malcolm Gladwell speak, and have read his books since then. Definitely enjoyed all. -- And you sound very busy, how fun to teach line dancing -- I'm just amazed that you have spare time.
welcome michelle , i m rachid from agadir
good evening michelle , enjoy reading

Welcome Cecilia! You have joined the group for you if you like to read a variety of books. Their are classics in all genres. So glad to have you here.

Welcome Jakob, Michelle, Cecilia, Elaine, and Sam, happy to have you all with us. We have a new year ahead of us and a lot to look forward too.

Welcome Cynthia -- you will find kindred spirits here, those of us who love classics and those who are learning to love the classics. Hoping to see you in the reads with us.
Some people read all the books, some read just one, and many just follow the discussions for our book reads. Choose what works for you.
And welcome to Eliane & Sam too!

I'll put that in the moderators' discussion for us to think about if and how we might want to do that. Thank you for the suggestion.

Hi Angana & Dave. So glad to have more people who love to read the classics. Welcome to the group.

Welcome Cynthia!
The group may seem overwhelming at first, but once you are familiar with the general topics, they dont change much, just the books change...
The easy answer to your questions is you use this group however is useful to you...everyone has a unique approach, I'm sure...
Everyone one has a say in the choosing of books as they want, in nominating, seconding and/or voting each month and then read what you want...
You can read none, one, or as many monthly picks as you want...
I've been in this group about a year and I read a few books with the group but some just didnt work with my timing. I find it especially helpful to read the quarterly long reads with the group...I was able to get through Don Quixote during the 3rd quarter long read, which was probaly my biggest achievement in reading for 2015.
2016 will be my first year joining in some of the reading challenges and I'm really looking forward to them.
There's much more, but hope this helps with some of your questions.

Happy New Year to you as well Angana!

Happy New Year to you as well!
Happy New Year all!
