Ryan (dex477) Hi everyone - I'm Ryan, I'm from Minnesota, and I am interested in getting to know the classics better. I am a big fan of short stories (both reading and writing them), and so I was convinced to join the group when I saw that you read classic books as well as short stories.

Hope to get to know you all! :)

Paula Gonzalez (pagr61087) Hello, everyone! My name is Paula. I'm from the Dominican Republic, a BEAUTIFUL country in the Caribbean. I recently joined the group because of my crazy obsession with books written in other centuries. I normally only read classics and a bit of modern literary fiction but sometimes, I crave a light read and go for a contemporary book. I'm sooo glad to join this group. Thank you for the warm welcome.

Hi Paula! Several of my coworkers vacation regularly in the Dominican Republic, and I've heard that it is indeed a very beautiful country. Welcome to the group!

Suzan (Suus Leest) (suzann1219) Hello! My name is Suzan, and I'm from the Netherlands. I'm finishing up my MA degree in Literary criticism at this point, and I'm excited to be able to read books of my own choice again! I read quite a few classics over the years, but I feel like, as a literature sudent, I've read way too few. This group sounds like the perfect opportunity to fix this issue!

I've read a bunch of classics in the last few years but soooo many are still waiting! The last one I read was one of the best-known Finnish classics, The Egyptian by Mika Waltari. Ohhh it was good!!

Pink | 5491 comments Welcome Vanessa, Ryan, Austin, Paula, Suzan, Vijay and Satu :)

What a wide and varied group of people we have...Nicaragua, Minnesota, Texas, Dominican Republic, Netherlands, India and Finland!

It's one of my favourite things about Goodreads, that we can connect with fellow book lovers from all of the world. It's also great to get tips for classics from other countries.

I hope you all enjoy our group and I look forward to some great classic book discussions with you :)

Cameron | 10 comments Good day all,

My name is Cameron and am currently living close to Ottawa, Canada. Although I've always been a pretty voracious reader I've only really started tackling some of the classics over the last 4 or 5 years or so. There aren't many of my close friends that are into the same types of literature as I am, and very few that are interested in reading classics, so I am looking forward to being able to take advantage of the group discussions for both books that I already have and those that I have yet to read.

Pink | 5491 comments Welcome Cameron, Tonje and Ruth :)

Cameron, I'm exactly the same in having nobody to discuss classics with in my everyday life. It's great to have like minded people here who understand my reading passions!

Tonje, I hadn't been part of a book group until joining GR either, but now I love it here! It's great to discuss books and discover new things that I wouldn't necessarily consider otherwise.

Ruth, you have a great varied interest in reading. I've only recently discovered mysteries myself and I especially love classic mystery stories, such as The Woman in White or Sherlock series.

I hope you all enjoy our group :)

Constantin Hey guys, I'm Constantin and I'm a college student from Germany.

I hope this group and its monthly reads will motivate me to read more diverse classics and to catch up on some (duh), my current favourites are TKAM, Siddharta and Gatsby.

Apart from that I like contemporary fiction, magical realism, non-fiction and now and then a good thriller or YA read :)

I hope we have nice discussions and a good time !

message 1493: by Pink (new)

Pink | 5491 comments Hi Constantin, welcome to the group!

I enjoyed all of the classics you mention and also like to read non-fiction and some magical realism, though I'm new to this genre.

I hope you find some new classics to enjoy with our group or some familiar favourites to discuss in greater depth. I look forward to getting to know you more :)

message 1494: by Tintinnabula (new)

Tintinnabula Hi! I'm T, I currently live in Italy and I'm of Swiss origin.
I love classics, especially Russian novels, but I also love essays and I'm trying to read more contemporary fiction.
I'll try and catch up with all your discussions and suggestions!
Cheers from Lake Como

message 1495: by Pink (new)

Pink | 5491 comments Welcome T, I think you'll find several lovers of Russian literature here (though I'm yet to tackle many of the classics myself).

Lake Como sounds wonderful...it's a grey and drizzly day here in England this morning.

I hope you enjoy our group, don't worry about catching up, just jump in to any discussions that interest you :)

I love to bake, sew, quilt, travel and do things with my nieces. I'm a nurse and currently caring for my elderly mother.

I have a lot of free time to read right now and hope to fill it by enjoying the classics!
