Please Introduce Yourself

I am Maria. I am from Brazil and I have also lived in Europe for more than ten years.
I have always been an avid reader, being specially passionate about classics. At the moment I'm finding difficult to choose what to read next, so I thought that joining a group as this would be helpful and fun at the same time.
Really looking forward to the readings and to the discussions.xx
Welcome, Maria from Brazil. I hope you join us for one of our reads coming up in May. Maybe that will help you choose a book.
Hi Jessica. We do try to always be kind in this group. I think you will enjoy the people. Hope to see you in the book discussions.

Over the last month, I have read The Book Thief and 1984, which were both absolutely amazing. Looking at reading War and Peace next and getting involved in the discussions !

Hi Maria, Jessica, Mimi, and Lloyd! Welcome :)

Thanks Kathy! I've just had a look at the books for May and I've already read To Kill a Mockingbird and Hundred years of Solitude. They are both among my top favourite books ever, so I'll be glad to join the discussions.
Welcome Mimi, Jessica & Lloyd.
And I always hope I don't miss anyone.
Welcome to a fun and friendly group. I hope to see you in the discussions.

I work for a collection agency part time, and am going back to school, to study IT. I am forty-three years old. I love travel, photography, reading, discussing philosophy and politics. I am looking forward to reading some classics with you guys.

I will try most books people recommend though I have a passion for horror and science fiction/fantasy.
I am hoping to either continue with my education or go back to work once the kids are in school full time. I love camping, reading, history....too many to mention. I look forward to reading with you all :)
Welcome Tim and welcome Veronica. Nice to have you in the group.
I too love science fiction Tim, but have learned to enjoy the classics with this group.
And Veronica, I too started reading more once the kids were older. Different things for different times.
Hope to see you both in the discussions

I have always loved the classics but have a hard time deciding which to read. I am so glad I am not the only one who had to take a break when I had children. It is not that I didn't want to read but they chase you everywhere and I was too tired to stay up at night. Now my oldest is 9 and the youngest is almost 4 and they love books so all I have to do is tell them it is time to relax and read and I can get some reading time :)
Hi, I am attempting to find a Goodreads group, with a focus on Classics that is a good fit with my reading preferences, has a variety of choices and is well organized. (Sorry, I sound so picky, but it seems if a group is not well organized, then the participation level goes down.)
Would love to join in reading with this group in the near future but may wait until the June reading of Lolita. I did not realize To Kill a Mockingbird isn't available for Kindle yet. WOW!! I had just assumed it would be, until I checked Amazon today.

Yes, Mockingbird has not been available in ebook form before. The author, Harper Lee, just a few days ago, on her 88th birthday, announced that she would agree for the first time, to allow the book to be released in digital format. It surprised me as well!

No need to be embarassed. Different things for different times in our lives. I *LOVE* reading, but also stepped away for a number of years, busy with other things.
Two of your titles I've recently become aware of via Goodreads, and def want to read (The Giver, and Looking for Alaska). Now I'll have to check out your middle title too. I bet I'll want to read that one as well *grin*

I know, I saw you there, when I was seeing how many members we're at now. :D
It's nominating time, and voting time :). I hope you vote for our next long read book (in polls section), and if you have a favorite title you'd like to suggest we read as a group, visit the nominating threads in the sections below.
And of course, looking forward to visiting with you in the book discussion threads!

I'll try to be active. :D"
:D I didn't mean to imply pressure. As active, or quiet, as you like, is fine. (Although, you know, I like active, personally. LOL!!!)

.... to all of us! Yes! Looking forward to great book discussions with such a friendly and diverse group of people! It's wonderful.

I read a lot when motivated to do so. Some books read better in their analogue state whilst others in E format. There's science there, so I wont read classics on my kobo/kindle or Ipod. Well maybe a modern classic;)

I hope you don't think I'm stalking you (lol), but I clicked on your profile, and noticed you just joined a really interesting group, Guardian Newspaper 1000 Novels. I've seen that list referenced in another group, it has some great books. I clicked to join too, thought I'd lurk a bit and see what kind of books get chosen :).
In any case! Welcome! :D (heh)

I´m Maria from Finland. I read all kinds of books from all kinds of genres. Lately I´ve been trying to add more classics to my reading list, so I think this group is perfect for me.
My main hobby is weightlifting (and knitting) and it takes lot of my free time but I try to read whenever I have time :)

Gaelen, good luck with your book :). Here is the url at Amazon, in case anyone else would like to check it out:

Maria, I hope so! Most of us here found the group for the same reason, to add more classics to our reading diet :).
Looking forward to reading some books and having some good book discussions with you both! :)
Welcome Faelen and Maria. I've been in the group for a while and am still trying to add more classics to my reading diet.

I am really into Classic British Literature or other British writing such as mysteries, etc. I love Colin Dexter for mysteries. I do venture out of England too, though:-) I would say my top favorite novels/writers are: anything by Colin Dexter, lots of stuff from Geraldine Brooks, Tale of Two cities, Power of One by Bryce Courtney, lots by Isabella Allenda, and more.
Happy Reading!
Hi Christine from Florida -- Glad you found our group! Good list of authors and books. I look forward to discussing books with you.

I love books and classics, but also mysteries, sci-fi, thriller, contemporary fiction, adventure, historical, great love stories - I read just about everything.
Glad to connect with everyone. Feel free to add me!

Hi Christine, Hi Ben! Welcome to you both :)

Hi Veronica

I admit to "cheating" when I read The Sound and the Fury. I read a commentary I got at the library which explained what was going on. I think I would have been clueless otherwise.
I don't know why it's worth it ... but it is, to me, anyway.
Oh ... and the very best one I've read is a short story which was later incorporated into the novel, "The Hamlet," called "Spotted Horses." Some of the most beautiful prose on the planet, and a brand of humor unlike any other.
