P.S. I am a recently retired teacher and am immensely enjoying my extra reading time! ;)

and have already made a couple of comments.
Nice to be on board!

Thanks, Katy, and back at'cha!

Welcome Cynda and I'm glad that we can help challenge your reading. So glad you are here -- and it's a friendly bunch.

Welcome, Cynda! I think it's a good bunch here, too.

Wow! What a nice statement, Cynda! I feel as though I should quote you!

At the moment I'm trying to read and discover more classics written by women - I only just read George Eliot and Virginia Woolf for the first time within the last year, so I need to catch up!
I'm hoping to study and perhaps work in a literature-related field in the future. I love to learn.

This is the group for classics lovers! Welcome.

Welcome Cenda. I just joined myself. I have been very happy. You're right, Cynda, this is a very supportive yet challenging group.
Hello! My name is Atanasije, I am from Serbia and I really like reading classics. I have noticed how those books makes me to think about the things which are outside of their pages, how they are expanding my world view... The influence they have on me is much stronger then from reading other genres, so I decided to focus all of my time I have for reading to them.
I found this beautiful website yesterday and I am happy that I already found a group of people which are interested in the same books as me and I am looking forward to push myself even more into reading thanks to you.
I am currently focused on French literature of the XIX century, I read couple of books, but after finishing Madame Bovary I decided to read all from Gustave Flaubert, because his style is something really special.

Just jump right into the convos and make yourself comfortable.

Thank you all for the welcome! You have right Rosemarie, I am reading Sentimental Education now and I am enjoying :)

Hello, Chaitra! Welcome to the group! It sounds like we have some of the same reading interests, and I think we just became "friends" ;)
I think you will really enjoy this group. I enjoy the challenges and group reads and finding fellow readers who enjoy the same books as I do. I also like the recommendations that send me off my usual path! I hope you enjoy it also! :)

I joined this group last year and have enjoyed the book discussions and the challenges, too.

I really enjoy reading vintage lit (20th century) but the last few years I was reading a lot more sci-fi and fantasy than anything else. I've been working on a rough draft reading plan for 2019 and am including quite a bit of vintage lit.
I'm super excited about the Quest for Women Authors challenge. I always read more female authors than male authors, across all genres, and am surprised that doesn't seem to be the norm. I've got more than a few suggestions for the group bookshelf!
I look forward to being part of this group and getting to know everyone.

Welcome to the group dales. I look forward to reading books with you and watching your challenges.

I am a reader of many things, and have read classic literature. My definition is influenced by lists of literature: American Classic Literature; English Classic Literature; Classic Literature One Should Read While Trying To Not Be Reading The Works Of Only Dead White Men.

I'm Nine (Janine) from Germany. I studied literary translation for English and French, so I read a lot of classics for university classes. My thesis was about Charles Dickens, and I love Jane Austen, Victor Hugo, and so many others. Nevertheless, I read everything that sounds interesting.
Apart from reading I enjoy playing floorball and doing sports. And I have two gorgeous cats and great friends. :)
Hi and welcome to the group Patty and Nine -- so glad that you have joined with us in reading classics.

Growing up, of course I read classics for school and college, but since then my classics-reading has been skimpy to nil. I've always wanted to get back to reading more of them, though, and to tackle some of those classics book lists. I'm happy to have found this group, as I think I'll be more motivated to read them, enjoy them more and have a richer experience if I can read along with others.
I'm looking forward to the upcoming Dickens read (I'm embarrassed at how few Dickens I've read!) and also The Sorrows of Young Werther.

SORROWS OF YOUNG WERTHER is the first "classic" work of German literature I read in German except for some modern short stories. As you'd expect, it's a pretty short work and classic *Sturm und Drang*. Chief complaint: It's written in the first person, and Werther whines a lot. Chief virtue: His whining is interesting!
I've only been at this Group a short time myself, but the folks have been great to me and the conversation stimulating.
Welcome!
ALLEN (Chicago, Illinois)

Thank you for the warm welcome, Allen! Now I can't wait for my copy of Werther to arrive so I can get started, as I'm curious to see how whining can be interesting. See, I just knew if I joined this group I'd be much more motivated
