Valerie (nicehotcupoftea) | 43 comments Hello everyone, it's Valerie from Australia. I'm delighted to have found this group, it seems to be exactly what I was searching for. I read a fair bit these days in all sorts of genres, and I love to discuss books. Reading the classics in group format particularly appeals to me, they can seem a bit daunting read solo. Since I am learning French, I also have a few French classics on my TBR list.
I'm going to have a look around the group here to see what you're all reading!

Erin | 1 comments Hello everyone, I am Erin from Kentucky. I love reading classics. A few of my favorite classic authors are Jane Austen, Leo Tolstoy and Arthur Conan Doyle.
I have been trying to read at least 1 classic a month lately, and I have been enjoying it so much. I thought I'd up my game a little and join a classic group to get some book inspirations and join in on some discussions.
Can't wait to get started.

Maria (mariasaleem) Hello! My name is Maria and I'm a university student. I love reading fantasy books. I have read a few classics in my time, and recently I finished Pride and Prejudice and absolutely loved it! It made me excited to read more great classics. I am glad to have found another group fully dedicated to reading classics here on GR. I hope it encourages me to read more classics and have fun discussions on them

message 5538: by Ella (new)

Ella (ellamc) Hi, I'm Ella. I've recently decided to try and reread a lot of classics I read when I was younger (I find a different perspective on every reread) and I'm trying to read more classics in general, so when I saw this group on a friend's list, I thought it would be good for me too.

I wish I''d not missed Vanity Fair, but I'll join in on the ones I can. Meanwhile, I'm currently reading We by Yevgeny Zamyatin. I found it on a list of classics and I'm enjoying it. I'm also doing a buddy read of one of the Chinese classics from the 1500s. That's a bit slower going. Really looking forward to this group.

Oh good. I grabbed it off my shelf last night thinking "I don't have time" and also "I really want to read this book." So, I'll get a start and eventually catch up to everyone else - someday. Thanks.

Welcome to the group Ella. Like Pink said, there are still people reading Vanity Fair through June.

We is on my list to read this year. Glad to hear that you are enjoying it.

message 5543: by Toviel (new)

Toviel (exagge) | 73 comments I thought I introduced myself already, but apparently I haven't.

Hello, everyone! I'm a law student desperately trying to work through a backlog of classics I own. My passion is ancient literature, such as Greek plays, the Eddas, etc. Lately I've been pushing through 19th C.E. books, although I generally do not like literature from the Victorian era. Outside of classics, I like nonfiction, sci-fi, and horror.

I hope to join in on the All Quiet on the Western Front group read in July. It'll be a reread on my end; I haven't read it since high school, but it really affected me back in the day.

message 5544: by Pink (new)

Pink | 5491 comments Welcome Lysistrata, thanks for taking the time to introduce yourself. I'm also a fan of Ancient Greek literature, you have a great name! Good luck with your studies and I hope you find time to join in with All Quiet on the Western Front in July :)

Darren (dazburns) | 2169 comments Welcome Lysistrata!
and Thankyou for the idea of having a "need-to-reread" shelf - how have I survived without!?
by curious coincidence I was listening to this earlier today:

Yu | 9 comments Hello, I am Dipankar.. It's great to be here as I can check what others are reading. My favourite novel Is The Picture of Dorian Gray......... By Oscar Wilde. Does anyone else like this novel? I would be happy to hear your opinion about it. For me it's a masterpiece. Lord HENRY IS JUST FASCINATING CHARACTER I TELL YOU, MORE THAN DORIAN.....

message 5547: by Yu (new)

Yu | 9 comments And I am a student, I like meeting new people, making friends, even more if they have same interests like reading books , if you guys are OK with it, can I add you as a friend?

message 5548: by Pink (new)

Pink | 5491 comments Welcome to the group Dipankar, it's great you've joined us! I've enjoyed what I've read of Oscar Wilde, he's very witty and fun. Feel free to add me as a friend :)

message 5550: by Leena (new)

Leena | 1 comments Hello, I'm Leena and I study Literature and English!

I love reading a variety of genres - fantasy, historical and contemporary fiction, literary fiction, classics, ... The classics I'm reading right now are Jude the Obscure and The Woman Who Did for university and Little Dorrit in my free time. The last classic I've finished and completely loved is Northanger Abbey - now I just have to find time to read Emma and then I've read all of Jane Austen's novels :)

I'm a bit too busy right now to join in on any of the classics the group's currently reading, but I'll have enough time for that in a month! :)
