1984 and Flowers for Algernon are some of my favorites too.
If you liked those comedic works then you may enjoy Don Quixote though it is a bit of a long read. I personally enjoyed it.
Welcome to the group!

A big thank you to all the mods in particular for cultivating such a well-run group. Everything is so organized and nicely explained that it's easy for newcomers like myself to dive in. It's also nice having a few different books being read at once from which to choose. :)

As members ourselves Melissa, we all feel the same way about our group and our moderators! Everything is awesome! Dive away! 🏊♀️😊

Our taste in books sounds quite different which is great - i love to branch out!

I also am in the Stephen King Book Club and we are starting completely over reading all of his books in order (one per month) starting with “CARRIE”.
So, I would love to be in the segment of your group which selects a classic with a timeline so I don’t have to keep putting off “ANNA KARENINA“ because I’m scared...LOL Also, I have never read “HARRY POTTER” but plan to at some point so don’t know if that is considered classics.
Anyway thank you for allowing me to join your wonderful group and I would welcome suggestions on which part of your group that you all think would fit my needs mentioned above.
Will we be reading one book per week or one per month?
Do you have a challenge set up already for 2018?
Sorry for being long-winded. I am excited to be here.
Get that whip out and make me read “ANNA KARENINA” some time along the way😅. LOL! THANKS EVERYBODY!
Welcome to the group Donna. I'm so glad that you have found us and that we were what you had looked for.
We have 4 monthly book reads and 1 quarterly longer read. So you will have plenty of books to choose to join in the discussion.
Challenges will start going up in December -- we have several, so there should be at least one that interests you! Welcome.

Hi and welcome Donna! Enjoy and happy reading! 😊

Sorry for being a dunce! Or is it a challenge kind of thing? For instance here is my list on the other club I was talking about. In it, you just fill in your reads but you can read them in any order. (SEE BELOW). In the Classics I would like to have someone telling me this is the selection for the week or month so I can be more structured and tackle some that I have been putting off because they intimidate me. LOL!

We do have a couple of challenges but the 4 monthly book reads are particular books we discuss. It's akin to an online book club. You're welcome to join in on as many or as few of these discussions as you like.
There's some more details here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Right now, we're discussing The Jungle Book, The Haunting of Hill House, Fahrenheit 451, and The Call of Cthulhu for our monthly reads and The Woman in White for our quarterly read.

Not from Longview, but a couple hours west of there. Welcome, Donna!

Hi and welcome Shannon! Glad you've joined us to read the classics! Looking forward to discussing books with you! Enjoy and happy reading! 😊

I live in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. Born in Ohio and have lived in New York, Seattle, Kansas and, finally, here. Retired 10 weeks ago and have one adult son in LA. I'm discovering how much reading one can do when there is no 9-5 (or in my case, often 50-60 hour work weeks!).
I've been reading classics in the traditional sense since the age of 12 or 13, although if you throw in children's classics such as Little Women or The Secret Garden I'd have to move that back to eight or nine!
I'm looking forward to reDing backward through the intros!

Hi Peggy! Fancy meeting you here! You'll love our group! We read an array of books each month, something for everyone! Jump in and enjoy! 😊

I read the discussions and really enjoy them, but somehow I never managed to take part in them, even though I have some comments. I blame my shyness for that. But it's a moment to change it!
I read mainly fiction. My favourite book is The Master and Margarita, my favourite authors are Erich Maria Remarque and Alice Munro.

Hi Vicki, and welcome to the group. Looking forward to reading and discussing great literature with you.

Hi and welcome Valentina! Such a beautiful name! Glad you've joined us to read classics! Enjoy and happy reading 😊!

Hi Mark! Walden was excellent! It was a five star read for me! I hope you enjoy reading it! Glad you've joined our group! Happy reading! 😊

At one time in my life I lived about six miles from Walden Pond, and had the good fortune to circumnavigate it a couple of times. Looking for ghosts, maybe.
