Vi Leo Vs Leo with a Gemini participating :)

I'm going to read her older singles. Choices from: Sacred Sins (SS/BV, #1) by Nora Roberts Three Fates by Nora Roberts Public Secrets by Nora Roberts Sanctuary by Nora Roberts Divine Evil by Nora Roberts Carnal Innocence by Nora Roberts

I think I remember a few of her titles has very similar story line - Public Secrets by Nora Roberts & River's End by Nora Roberts but I'm not that sure about it.

message 2: by Chris (new)

Chris (cdavies1951) | 189 comments I'm going for the MacGregors. Been wanting to read them forever.

message 3: by Vi (new)

Vi I think I read a couple of MacGregors 6-8 months back but I got bored after reading them back-to-back.. Maybe I'll try a few of the Stanislaski (forgive the spelling) too. (WAY too many books for August)

message 4: by Vi (new)

Vi She has too many books. And there are certain books that I can't find in the library. (And I'm getting excited just thinking about this. This challenge is TWO months away!)

message 5: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) Libra here and I am in it to win it!! Sorry, couldn't resist!!!

Vi - I agree! I want to start this tomorrow!!

So my library has several 5 book sets I can get for my nook. I think I'm going for the one with the following first!

Honest Illusions by Nora Roberts Private Scandals by Nora Roberts Hidden Riches by Nora Roberts True Betrayals by Nora Roberts Montana Sky by Nora Roberts

message 6: by Vi (new)

Vi Leslie - my library has most NR books in e-format with all those re-issued covers. The trilogy are all packed as a single book and they have those 5-in-1 bundles. It is really hard not to download.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments Came here by happenstance! I love what you've done with the place, Oo. Leo pride, rawr!

I haven't started a reading plan of attack yet. How fun to see others participating! Now I'm going to REALLY work hard for the win! Was one thing when it was myself vs Oo, but now all you others have arrived, throwing down gauntlets left and right! ;)

Re: J.D. Robb -- I personally prefer to stick with the Nora books only, as this challenge was inspired by our exchange about our love of (especially vintage) Nora Roberts.

I had some fun going through various boxes of Nora books, looking over titles that I loved, some I still haven't read (a lot of her older stand-alones), my favorite series, etc. Ahh, nostalgia!

Reading the list of books makes me wish it was August! But,that's way too close to summer being over here so I'm okay with waiting.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments Speaking of Nora having a rainbow of fans -- would everyone mind sharing which team they are from? I recognize some names from Moonstone but am not sure if anyone from other teams have joined in. Those Moonstone people mean business... hope I don't eat my fierce words by the end of this thing. ;)

According to the Chinese Zodiac, I am a Metal Dog, which they define as: "Metal dogs are very committed in all they do whether it involves work or relationships." We'll see if that works out to my benefit in this fun, friendly but fierce (for me, LOL) competition!

If you're curious, you can read about your animal here (and if you click your animal and scroll down, you'll see which element fits your birth year): http://www.chinesezodiac.com/signs.php

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments Oh yeah, in addition to team names, would people mind sharing their zodiac signs?? (So far, I think everyone has shared their signs).

Yes, a Leo must win!! Lion pride!

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments Love them, Oo!

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments LOL, it does look a bit high. As for zen, I think most monkeys come off as rather zen to me. I think those monkeys are giving you a message... find your zen place, Oo! Hehehe.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments Hehe, okay, duly noted!

message 14: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) I'm a Libra and when I found my chinese zodiac sign, it was so far off the mark - I don't even know people like that. It said I spent my time in the garden. I kill all plants that come near me. Oh well!!

And I agree about keeping it Nora Roberts and not adding JD Robb to the mix. I read one of hers a month as part of a buddy read/challenge. But I want to focus on older NR. So excited, but definitely do not need August to come any faster. Wedding is on July 20th - once that is done, then I can relax and have fun!

message 15: by Vi (new)

Vi LOL, Oo! Those monkey photos are awesome!! Teresa, Monkeys are not zen. Especially when they steal banana right from your hand... and you fight for it.

My water sign is Earth Dragon. Apparently, Earth Dragons make better decisions because they act more rationally. I need to inform my hubby of that. He'll agree, I'm sure. :P

Leslie, what's your chinese zodiac?

message 16: by ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (last edited Jun 10, 2013 03:13PM) (new)

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments Well, maybe monkeys just appear zen in pictures to me, LOL! I don't even know why. I know they don't seem zen at the zoo when I see them. Perhaps I should have specified that they appear zen in pics, hehe. Good fakers, they are!

message 17: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) Vi - It was Water Ox. It was so completely the opposite of me - it was pretty funny. If you read the description of a Libra - that's pretty much me. This one said I was not social, hard worker, worked outside with my hands.
I'm social, hate to work and never work with my hands. Except to hold a book! and a remote!!
Love the monkeys!!

message 18: by ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (last edited Jun 10, 2013 11:01PM) (new)

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments Ahem... I'm a metal dog, not a metal monkey. :p

What a fun collection of um... beings we have, lol.

Someone should write a book about us.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments Yep, a steampunk pet!

Hm, epic fantasy or horror... good question, LOL. Epic fantasy horror? HEHE.

Off to bed, goodnight!

message 20: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 384 comments Hobbit here is mix of centaur and earth goat. I don't want to think what that looks like ☺

Reading all those characteristic I'm always total opposite from everything. Usually people don't believe me when I tell them I'm Sagittarius. I wonder what'll they say I they knew I'm double one :D

Then again, I was born on last day, so could there be possibility I'm not?

message 21: by Vi (new)

Vi Teresa, to answer your earlier question, Chris, Leslie & I are from Moonstone, Tea from Cerulean/Hobbit Blue.

Oo, I can't remember the astrology stuff. My friend, however, is a huge fan/believer and she finds out the signs of everyone close to her. She even did that to one of her boyfriend and split because their signs weren't compatible.

And, I think you have to change the title. It's no longer Leo Vs Leo. I'm sure what it is anymore though.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments I guess we could just call it the Nora Roberts August Face-off or something? Anything else might have to be changed, depending on who else joins up, LOL.

message 23: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (drsophie) Can I join in as well? Another Leather Jacket Black group member.

I'm a Virgo, and a Fire Rabbit (or Cat depending which set you look at).

I'm happy to just read Nora Roberts - there's a lot of her stuff I haven't read in years and more that I haven't read at all.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments Welcome, Sophie!

A fire rabbit, I like it.

message 25: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (drsophie) I can't really picture a fire rabbit though - unlike a water monkey or a metal dog.

Looking into the background of what they mean I don't really see how fire and rabbit go together - one is passionate and the other is calm and slow to anger... Oh well!

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments Great images!!!

message 27: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (drsophie) Love the first picture! The pictures you choose to put into your posts always make me smile.

I very very rarely get mad... Can't remember the last time I got cross. So it might well be that I look like the 2nd picture

message 28: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (drsophie) That'll be the first nickname I've had since school where I was mother Hen...

message 29: by Vi (new)

Vi Welcome, Sophie! All this anticipation...

Oo, great images!

To date I have read over 60 of Nora Roberts books and must admit that I loved her earlier books much more than her recent ones. I spent am entire summer glomming her back list and her Language of Love series. I really enjoyed her pure love books and loved The MacGregor series which I think was 11 titles.

Sadly her recent occult books left me cold as well as her romantic suspense books. Still at one time Roberts was one of my favorite authors even if I rarely read now.

Good luck to everyone who participates in this challenge.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments If you'd like to play along by reading some of those old favorites, Nancy, feel free! It is completely for fun, no pressure, no points, just a friendly little bookworm battle.

message 33: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) Thanks for recommending this idea to me Teresa. I may just do that.

message 34: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) The first Nora Roberts books I read were the Born in Trilogy and that began a maginificent obsession with this author till she wrote The Three Sister's Island etc. I loved the McKade boys, the Chesapeake clan and others. I also loved the duo Irish Born and Irish Thoroughbred.

I am not on this team so I wonder if I can participate here or will be considered a spy. LOL BTW I am new here and am still quite confused.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments Thanks for explaining all of that, Oo!

Nancy, I am a spy in the Leather Jacket Black (aka LJB) threads on the regular NBRC (Nothing But Reading Challenges) group. I'll post in their "team thread" and join in on their "Question of the Day" sometimes. It's a nice way of getting to know other players who are on "opposing" teams, as a way of just having fun or meeting like-minded readers, or just discovering other books you didn't really know existed.

message 36: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) I am reading some really old Nora Roberts that was available at the library in ebook format. It also works for another challenge as well. We'll see if I get to any others.

Night Shift (Night Tales, #1) by Nora Roberts Night Shadow (Night Tales, #2) by Nora Roberts Nightshade (Night Tales, #3) by Nora Roberts Night Smoke (Night Tales, #4) by Nora Roberts Night Shield (Night Tales, #5) by Nora Roberts

message 37: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 384 comments I just loaded my reader with her books. You never know what I'll want to read. ☺
I have Stanislaskis, Dream, In Garden, Concannon Sisters, and few more just can't remember at the moment. ☺

By the way, I'll be traveling at that period so I probably won't post much.

message 38: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) I'm such a newbie when it comes to Nora Roberts. I've only read her newer stuff and some of her romantic suspense. And of course I'm addicted to the In Death series!! So I'm looking forward to reading her older works.

message 39: by Chris (new)

Chris (cdavies1951) | 189 comments Ooh! "In Death" - will those count, too?

message 40: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) No, Chris. We decided that they didn't. Sorry, I didn't mean to get you all excited!!

message 41: by Vi (new)

Vi Ooh, Concannon Sisters.. I might take that out from the library. I have a bunch of her older RS books that I'll primarily be reading. 3 more days to go and I can hardly wait.

message 42: by Chris (new)

Chris (cdavies1951) | 189 comments Leslie wrote: "No, Chris. We decided that they didn't. Sorry, I didn't mean to get you all excited!!"

No biggie - there's plenty to read :-)

message 43: by ❀Tea❀ (last edited Jul 28, 2013 11:07AM) (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 384 comments I've reread few of her books (Gallaghers, Quinns, McKades, Cordina, few stand alones (suspense)).

I agree with you about her latest books. I've read mostly romance ones and I am getting disappointed. They look to me like she's recycling old ones or uses templates (brothers or sister so we have trilogy, ghost/demons, cheesy love story, unrealistic and unnecessary villain, renovation of old houses)

message 44: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) It sounds like I will be one of the few in this read a thon who will not be re-reading. Not sure how I missed her for all these years, but I sort of avoided her for some reason I can't fathom now.

message 45: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 384 comments I'm not rereading this time either. ☺
I just said I did reread some of her books.
I still have too many of her books to read so I'm going to use this opportunity to make that list little shorter. :D

message 46: by ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (last edited Jul 28, 2013 03:02PM) (new)

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments I will be planning my reads for this in the next few days. Just got home from a quick little trip to visit some family in Louisiana and I'm wiped from the car rides and visiting!

I found a box of vintage Nora books (paperbacks, mainly her really old Harlequins and/or Silhouette books) in my garage but a lot of them are stuck together and now ruined because we had a little flood and I just didn't realize the book box was actually on the floor of the garage at the time. I thought it was on top of another box. A lot of the book covers were all stuck to one another and some of the pages have mold on them. :( The inside pages are fine, but I'll have to unstick them all and well, the covers are pretty ruined.

message 47: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) ilovebakedgoods (Teresa), where in Louisiana are you from? I live in La. At the moment Shreveport (since Katrina) but I'm from New Orleans. Have also lived in Baton Rouge and Lafayette (went to college there).

@Tea - good to know!! She does have alot of books!!

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments Hey Leslie! I'm not actually from there, my in-laws are. They live in Slidell, which I'm sure you've heard of since you're from New Orleans. It's about 30 minutes from the city, maybe? An hour to the French Quarter? Somewhere in between, haha.

We visited my brother-in-law (parents-in-law drove from home) in Breax Bridge, right near Lafayette.

That's cool to meet someone from around there! I'm bummed that we didn't get to Cafe DuMonde for beignets this year, but next time!

message 49: by Chris (new)

Chris (cdavies1951) | 189 comments Chris is full of BULL (Taurean)

message 50: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) Very familiar with Slidell. Have a few friends who lived before Katrina. Passed through it alot on my way to soccer tournaments on the Gulf Coast. And familiar with Breaux Bridge as well. Lived in Lafayette for 4 years, met my husband there.

I was in New Orleans for 2 weeks for the wedding. All my family from out of town made it to the french quarter and had beignets several times at Cafe Du Monde. But no one brought any to me. So sad!!
