Finished this week The Orchardist and Love Anthony and just starting The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Pretentious level on the rise :P

In which case, I'd like to apologize on behalf of my country for Australian rap.

Not to worry, Jess. Relative to what *my* country has to apologize for, Australian rap is worthy of a Nobel Prize. :)

Why Michael...do you like Aussie rap?? ;P

The truth is, I've never heard a single note of Aussie rap, and never (voluntarily) listened to a single recording of American rap of any kind. While I nodded, though, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping, as of someone gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door. Naturally, I put on headphones. :)

I had completely forgotten about Shades of Grey. It was an excellent book and also the first of a new series. The second part is due out next year.

We sing a song with our preschoolers called The Dinosaur Stomp. It's a prehistoric rap. You would like that.

I remember.
Stomp till you can stomp no more
Dance with an apatosaur
Give a great primordial yowl, and
Grunt and growl, grunt and growl, grunt and growl...
Make sure that your step is gracious
As you exit the Cretaceous,
Here's a stomp that's really classic,
One on which you bet Jurassic...

Are you singing that Mark? It's definitely got a good beat;)
I love what Phrynne does with her pre-schoolers:)

Mark - I like that you took just over an hour to make that up.

Phyrnne, I've loved everything I've read by Jasper Fforde.
Tell me, are you a Kerry Greenwood fan or is that really your name?

Were I to sing (in the same hemisphere with you), believe me, you'd know it. Stricken creatures would arise from the sea, bleeding from the ears, praying for it to stop. Panes of glass would have to be replaced in every city from Perth to Sydney. Buildings would collapse from acoustic structural exasperation. Not a pretty sight.

Thank you, but I got a phone call. If I'd spent more than 15 minutes, it would have been vastly more appalling. :)

I love Kerry Greenwood's books too, not just Phrynne Fisher. Maybe I should go under Corinna......

I was tenacious. :) You're kind, though. :)

I have all the books she has written about both Corinna and Phrynne. Did you see the TV series? I really liked it especially the actress they chose to play Phrynne. She was almost exactly how I had imagined her. And Dot was brilliant!

I would have said your attempts at poetry were audacious, maybe even perspicacious.

I have read all the Corinna Chapmans (even got the last as a review copy from Allen & Unwin) and am slowly savouring the Phrynne Fishers, then passing them on to my mum (up to 10 now). The TV series was brilliant! I emailed Kerry Greenwood about it before it started: she said they let her have input and she was very happy with how it turned out and she was really pleased with the actress they chose for Phrynne. Kerry even has a tiny part in Blood and Circuses, but it really was: blink and you'll miss it!

Your logophile appetite's clearly edacious! :)

Nothing that I ever say is right, Brenda. I'm an intractably devout leftist, as you know. I once wrote and posted this elsewhere, in response to unexaggerated reports of my political obstreperousness, but I don't think I've yet blighted your shores, so here goes:
(Needs to be introduced by a chorus of Stanley's daughters.)
I am! I am a crotchety, pacifist nutcase!
(Cue orchestra.)
I am the very model of a nutcase pacifistical,
I've information hermeneutic, terrene and logistical.
I know the wars American and quote the fights hysterical,
With manufactured enemies and threats that are chimerical.
I'm very well acquainted, too, with jingoist loquacity,
I understand the protocols of Rovian mendacity.
About atomic weaponry, I'm teeming with a lot of tips,
And just cannot restrain myself until there's an Apocalypse!
Chorus: He just cannot restrain himself until there's an Apocalypse!

My next book to read is her latest one Unnatural Habits. I am really looking forward to it.

"Prolix" is one of those words that are "autologous," so I hope you'll find use for it. Words that are non-self-referential are called "heterologous." The 64,000-euro question, and the one likely to induce the most intractable migraines, is: "is 'heterologous' heterologous?" Words are funny. Glad if I've been able to divert you, and you're kind to say so, but I think we're all logophiles in this interesting venue. "Nobody here but us geeky book-lovers." :)

Phrynne Fisher #19 seems not yet to be available for the kindle, alas. The first book in the series is offered at an attractive price, though (nothing), and I promptly bought it. :)

At least you know reading it will be value for money! It is a good series though and is interesting for its settings as well. I once went on a cruise round New Zealand as a result of reading

Just out of curiosity, since you appear to have good taste, who are the other nine?

That's funny. You read the message I posted and then I edited it to something completely different! I will get back with the other nine shortly.

Thanks, Brenda. I'm an obsessive G&S aficionado, and Penzance is my second favorite, after the Mikado.
Did you ever see the Mikado Opera production? We had performances here in Melbourne last year.
