I just finished reading David Grossman's latest novel To the End of the Land and posted my review as well. The book gives insights into how deep..."
Adhityani - welcome to the group. I see your request for Australian memoir, and you didn't mind an older book. "A Fortunate Life" by A.B. Facey is about as Australian as you can get.
Happy reading.
Monya (aka Mary) Clayton

Hey Mel,
what are the titles that you have written yourself? i am trying to write some things myself, but could do with some guidance on how to attack such a massive feat...
oh thanks for the suggestions also - will have to check those books and authors out! :D

Mandy a friend of mine gave me this great link so that you can check time/temp in any city. I love it and have found it very handy for knowing what time it is. I have it set up on my Windows Internet Explorer - Favourite Bar (also handy as it allows you to flick between fahrenheit & Celcius. (Yes, no need to say it. I need to get out more)

Hi Sophie!
You'll find my books at my website: http://www.melteshco.com/
Stone-Cold Lover and Ice-Cold Lover are my gargoyle books, I have one more in that series to go.
Her Dark Lord is my vampire read through Harlequin Nocturne Bites.
Where to begin on writing! I'd say right away join Romance Writers of Australia:

I have been with this group for a long time and they are brilliant and informative =)
Hope that helps!

Oh thanks Mel :) will check all of those links out!

I've just started The Raw Shark Texts after an anonymous other reader linked it to 'House of Leaves' and 'John Dies at the End', both of which I loved for very, VERY different reasons. TRST is really good so far, and I'm legitimately enthralled in the story. So far the narrator, Eric Sanderson, woke up on the floor of a bedroom to find himself without any memories. Exploring the house he discovers a letter obviously meant for him. It instructs him to speak to a Dr Randle and is signed 'The First Eric Sanderson'. Dr Randle has explained that this is not the first time Eric has suffered from memory loss such as this, though it is the most severe occurrence to date. Eric receives another letter from The First Eric Sanderson telling him not to trust Dr Randle. Mystery ensues.

Is there an easy way for us to include links like those ourselves?

Yeah it's really easy. Just look at the top right of the comment box you're writing your message in. Click on 'add book/author'. You can choose the book title or author's name by choosing either of the tabs. Or if you scroll down the message you can choose 'link' (book's name) or 'cover' (book's cover'). I just added The Raw Shark Texts to my TBR pile! Every time I read your or Polk's messages I find more great books!!:)

How to Tell If Your Boyfriend Is the Antichrist: And If He Is, Should You Break Up with Him?
I am currently reading DEAD ish as I wanted a quick read. Quirky, fun is my initial reaction. I haven't gotten far into it yet. :)

Kamkwamba's tale of survival and living in an impoverished Malawian village without losing his hope, curiosity and inventiveness is truly inspiring. The book is not an astounding literary achievements, but the voice is clear and honest. I will post my review asap!
And now I am moving to the book next on the list: The Glass Castle
Well a huge
congratulations
on the birth of your daughter Dhitri!!! I hope both of you are very well.

I'm reading 'Campaign Ruby' by Jessica Rudd - it's light and fun!"
That's got plenty of good reviews Rosalind. Hope you enjoy it!

I just finished 'Play Dead' by Harlan Coben. It's his first book, which he wrote when he was 20. It was amazing, he obviously had a lot of talent when he first started out, as all of his books are fabulous reads. I couldn't put it down, and read it in under 2 days!

From what I understand number 20 is coming out sometime next year... :D
cant wait!

You hit the nail on the head there!

Nathaniel is lovely but I am firmly in the Jean Claude camp.

Huge congratulations, Dhitri!

I am fortunate that there is an annual second hand book fair held in Sutherland Entertainment centre (near where I live). The above book, in good condition,$5, so it was easy to spend over $100 for around 35 books between my wife & I. If I had bought the book on Sunday (I bought on Saturday) it would have been $2.50 all proceeds for Wesley Mission Lifeline. When the house becomes too small, the books go back in to circulation via the book fair. Great system :-o)
I just finished reading The Damage Done by Hilary Davidson, a crime/mystery, and very good it was too.

Hi Geoff - we have big Lifeline book sales in Queensland too. Treasure hunting and bargains, my favourite combination. Unfortunately I can't get around to plough through them like I used to, but I do the occasional exploration of op. shop shelves and Abe books.
Fred. Forsyth writes great thriller/adventures. Enjoy!

Hi elise,
You will LOVE it. Its the best one of all. I loved the whole take on the Arthuria..."
One of my friends just finished reading mists and said it was brilliant :) i can't wait to get into it :D

How to Tell If Your Boyfriend Is the Antichrist: And If He Is, Should You Break Up with Him?"
I just love that title. I have now added it to my 'to read list' and am wondering what the ultimate answer is in the book, 'yes' or 'no'.

Congratulations on the birth of your daughter.

If the last time you studied psychology was the Intro course in university 15 or more years ago, this will make you feel smart and amuse you. Quick read, dispels a lot of myths, and tells you things you didn't know you wanted to learn about.
Bonus! He talks about Australia a *lot.* :)

Must say something about me! I loved Biggles books when I was young too. Adventure, that's it. And the clarity of O'Brian's writing helps a lot.

Jumbee looks fabulous, too. Can't wait to get my teeth into it."
All of them would be good but I meant Black Mamba Boy. I guess I got the genre wrong. LOL

So along with Inkheart I am also reading The Mists of Avalon. Just started reading it tonight and one chapter in I am already loving it. I am so familiar with the Arthurian Legend that I already feel close to the characters.

I read that one a few years ago. It's kind of weird the way it doesn't really have a plot, but I really enjoyed the descriptions and the way out characters.

I just finished reading The Glass Castle - What an amazing story! As fiction it would have been mind-bending enough, but to think that the author lived and grew up under such circumstances, thanks to her eccentric parent, is unthinkable. Especially because at the end she did very well (well, she did go on to write a memoir that sat on the NY Times bestseller list for months!).
For more details please check out my review.
I have now moved on to A Journey: My Political Life - I have barely gone through the first chapter and it's already making me dizzy - the memoir is written in a strangely chatty way and likes to veer off in all different directions, it's almost like you're listening to the man's ramblings. But that may just be the charm of this book, it gives hope to readers that it may be more insightful than your average political memoirs and the anecdotal stories kept me going. It goes for over 800 pages, so let's see how long I can hold on to this book!

I loved the Hornblower books too, Monya. I liked the way CSF developed Hornblower's personality. I felt I knew everything about him. HH was really a three dimensional character. I tried to read one of the O'Brien books some years ago and never really took to it. Perhaps I've outgrown that sort of book. Laurel
